hey andy, fender just released the American Vintage 72 Tele. exactly like this one but for the mainstream market. It would be much appreciated if you can review it.
how does the bridge pickup handle a good crunch like tone?? i've been looking for a guitar that can get a good Joe Walsh, Eagles like tone... do you think this guitar would be a good choice?
@frenzexperiment Sounds like "Dead Flowers" off Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones to me. This model and color of guitar id closely associated with Keith Richards.
Mine looks exactly like it except it has two humbuckers and no silver plate to the bridge. Also on the headstock it just says Telecaster Custom. Any idea which model it is?
this guitar looks great. I've scouted out many reviews online and the verdict is it rocks. I'm most likely going to be purchasing one this week. Doesn't seem worth it forking out several hundreds of dollars more to get a standard USA one. From what I can tell this guitar has great versatility which is exactly what I'm looking for. I hope I'm right!
Hey, is this 72 custom different from the one on Fender's site? Because according their site the body is alder not ash? Just wondering if you could let me know. Thanks
I think it's safe for me to say that I have a love/hate affair with Tele's. One minute I love everything about them and the next I think they're totally crap. I think my moodswings have finally calmed down cause I'm thinking about getting a second Tele but yet a bit different... Offcourse I don't have a "customshop" budget but this sounds nice... I deffinatly have to try the mexican made (budgetfriendly) version of it when I see it.
@TheKeefguitar They do make the 2 humbucker version of this in mexico. The 2 humbucker model is called the 72 deluxe and it has the big 70's style Strat headstock instead of the normal Tele headstock..
Why don't I sound this good when I play the same guitar????? This has got to be one of my favorite Fender's I own. Andy as always provides outstanding demo's for PGS and always makes me realize I need to practice a whole lot more.:) Thanks for the demos and agree this is a Great guitar for Blues which is why I bought this model.
@RobbyBobbins do you know if they are good for krankin it up abit with like distortion n stuff? cause i sorta play blues but i like to pull out the dist once and a while or sometimes ill mess around with my wah to give a little funky tune to whatever im playing
great review andy, big ups as usual. however i would have loved to see how it sounds playing some full on distortion and big chords. i know its not traditionally a 'heavy' guitar but i see alot of bands like mogwai, etc. wouldve been nice is all...
I have a friend who owns a 72 telecaster and it's one of the best vintage guitar I've ever played. If this reissue is anything like the original i'm sure it's a joy to play
are telecasters pretty good for blues? cause im gettin a new guitar soon and its probably gonna be a telecaster or another stratocaster. i already got a blue mexican strat fender
The only man that has made me piss my pants with a Fender is Yngwie Malmsteen... I fucking hate their distorted sound (their clean sound is beautiful though), but Yngwie make them sound unique and amazing
Ive got an 1980 tele custom with Rosewood finger board and the Six bridge tailpeice, it sounds a lot thicker than this, so i would like one of these please! ;)
i really wish andy would list the songs he plays in the descriptions, cuz it would only take a minute and i would watch ALL of these videos. maybe some favoriting too...
Hey guy, love the vids. Question: are you playing with a pick at all or just finger nails? Obviously you're nails are grown out some if you're not using a pick. Just curious. Wondered how you got some sounds based on how your hands were moving. Thanks
What do You think about video where You'll use that fantastic guitar and Jetter Helium, to make a great Rolling Stones staff. I'll be gald, if You try do it!
is the neck pickup a remake of the original 'wide range' humbucker? or is it the same pickup as in the reissue - a normal humbucker in the bigger wide range casing. Its probably the latter as it sounds pretty similar to my 72 deluxe reissue
I kinda wish Fender would make their guitars a little prettier i mean they sound great but at times I kinda hate the look of their guitars. But that's just me.

Fender never produced a stock neck radius tighter than 9.5" did they? Just wondering what this radius is "flatter" than ? Nice sounds from Andy - actually way better than the original. I played one of the original '72s in '75-ish and it was genuinely terrible. Neither pickup sounded good and the intonation stunk thanks to sloppy workmanship. The early '70s were not good for Fenders. Had to reset the neck or bridge on several guitars to fix intonation.
