Noble idea posting an old movie 4everyone. I started watching it with great "child-like" excitement. I smiled +laughed here and there at t predictable jokes+ wisecracks. BUT IT BEGAN TO DAWN ON ME JUST HOW MUCH OF THE SO-CALLED JOKES WERE ACTUALLY TURNING OUT TO BE "STEREOTYPICAL" AND "CONDESCENDING" PORTRAILS OF ARABS AND MUSLIMS! I THEN STOPPED LAUGHING ALTOGETHER... Just How much of this stuff (false stereotyping o Arabs and Muslims) was really intensional! dirty American Zionist-loving scum
@chilvari; With all respect, can you tell me more exactly what you liked ab this movie? 'Cos I agree-costumes r great!
BUT there's one catch..
Doesn't this kind of seemingly good-humoured fun can distort peoples' views of Arabs and Muslims? Who is the director and why does he constantly poke fun+stereotype Arabs and Muslims as "sly", "thieving", "scheming", "treacherous" ?? ALL TOO SIMILAR to NAZI propaganda about DER JUDEN ("the Jews") with the hooked-nose and garbs?! Wouldn't you agree?
@emilaminjedla This movie is based on Aladdin and the Genie. It's a short story in the "Arabian Nights" book (which I'm having a hard time finding in the library much to my chagrin). How is it propoganda? As far as I'm concerned, the whole "portraying muslims/arabs in a negative way" never came across. All I saw was a good movie with some funny lines and great costumes.
Cornel Wilde was going to be on the US Olympic fencing team but became an actor. He's obviously so much better than everyone else at fencing, it's quite funny watching him hold back.
Thanks for posting this - back before the days of VHS, my family would check out old 16mm movie reels from the library on Friday nights. We watched this hard-to-find little gem several times during those years - good to see it available again. Phil Silvers with all those anachronisms are still funny.
THANK YOU SO MUCH LOVE THIS STORY AND LOVE OLD FILMS THIS IS A GOOD VERISON ALSO THERE ARE SO MANY .

It took me a long time to find this. Phil Silvers is a genius comedic actor. :)
