She remains a major star on Broadway. Unfortunately, Max went back to Hollywood and has done very little since. I guess he just doesn't have the face for a leading man, and Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Kevin James have a lock on the "nerd hero" roles. Maybe he'll luck out again someday.
Because HE IS!!!!! He can sing, and he was the total underdog in the competition that picked him as 'Danny' for this musical...whether or not it was a Broadway success or not (which all depends of the producers and choreographers more than the actors, 9/10 anyway!)
