  • Likewise, I remember this cartoon vividly. I also remember it related to the parable of the three talents given to the slaves. One buried his, one invested and made some, one invested and made a lot. Both of the investors were rewarded even though one did better than the other both did the best they could. Matthew 25:14-30

  • Seems like the GOP needs to watch this video...

I miss (I lie, I wasn't even born yet) decent wages that could pay for the necessities of life. Hell, I miss being able to find a job. I found my current job through my father. With the economy the way it is, there are few (if any). This cartoon shows how a business should be run, profits are used to improve the standard of living for everybody, not just reap in horrendous amounts of money.

Back when business had rules and responsibility.

  • I'm completely amazed by the fact that still only few understand the fact that is because of all these heap of junk that nowadays global economy is failing everywhere! Eternal growth, mass production, higher and higher wages, sure profit from investments (no matter what the investmets are all about). Those cartoons succeeded in what they were ment to; trasforming millions of citiziens in a big bunch of customers with only a single neuron connected to their credit cards.Same as nazi's propaganda!

  • Well, this just summed up my macroeconomics class... How unexpected.

  • Very interesting! Why not make better, longer lasting electrical cars, motorcycles and scooters. They can make people save their money on gas. They can get more miles per charge if done better for less charging.

  • Glad the reality of 'real business' isn't about scamming folks out of their savings. Most companies on the S&P don't do respectable dividends. Most companies end before their first year, so its no wondering they church is never ending and our lower costs are now in the 10-15% inflationary range. Sheeze, glad Elmer/Bush/Obama is at the helm.

  • What a capitalist rape and exploitation of original fairy, and the moral of the story is: "If you help somebody and you are no longer needed, they'll stub the knife in your back". When I was little I loved this cartoon, but now I see how manipulative it is.

Copy and Paste if you agree.

  • @Pathstalker I think that's a bit extreme but I can understand your opinion.

  • Kakvo kapitalističko silovanje i eksploatacija orginalne bajke, i na kraju svega još zanimljivije naravoučenije: "Kad nekome pomogneš i više mu nisi potreban zabošće ti nož u ledja". Voleo sam ovaj crtać kao mali, sad vidim koliko je manipulativan ustvari.

    Copy Paste ako se slažete.

  • You should send this to the government

  • This is essentially a description of the Solow Growth Model. This cartoon came out two years before Solow published his groundbreaking paper for which he was eventually awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.

  • Wow, it's like the answer to all of our economic woes in cartoon form.

  • now days, they keep that profit, and they just stick another camera on your iphone.

  • Interesting...

  • Yes, Virginia. Elmer Fudd does indeed have a brain.

  • This cartoon has stayed with me since I was a child. Even now, when I make large expenditures for equipment for my photo business, I can still hear how profits must be re-invested. Someone should show this to our President so perhaps he can grasp what must be done to save our economy ... if, in fact, he has any interest in saving it.

  • @Bamaphotopro: It's the Republicans who need to see it. Note that some of those profits were supposed to go for higher wages. Wages have been stagnant for 30 years. Today's capitalists have been blowing profits on financial shenanigans and exporting jobs instead of giving workers their fair share. And do you want paved roads for your trucks? Cops & firefighters to protect your factory? Soldiers & diplomats to open foreign markets? Schools? Then some profits have to go to taxes.

  • @mikrotuber Yes it is so sad that the working poor have sunk to such dreadful levels of homelessness, carlessness, cellphonelessness, cableTVlessness and become starving, wretched creatures laying in our gutters, like in Central America.

  • @DrBukk Seen the news lately? Many of them *aren't* working any more, after the financiers and CEOs first sent their jobs abroad and then wrecked our economy. And many more of them *are* homeless, due to the foreclosure crisis, again caused by those same geniuses who screwed the rest of us, cried for bailouts, and then got fat bonuses.

  • @mikrotuber The financial meltdown was caused by Democrats and their sub-prime housing manipulation. Yes, Wall Street ran with it once the banks were forced to lend to unqualified people with no money down. It is high wages, poor education and ridiculous pensions that have driven jobs overseas. Class envy will erode your soul.

  • @DrBukk Wages are not high. Read 1st post. Don't worry about my soul -- worry about our republic. It's degenerating into an oligarchy. I know you won't believe anything I say, so do your own research. May I suggest _Wealth and Democracy_ by former Nixon speechwriter Kevin Phillips -- that was written 10 yrs ago and things have gotten even worse since then. Also "The Rise of the New Global Elite", in the latest (Jan/Feb 2011) issue of _Atlantic_ magazine (it's online too).

  • @mikrotuber Wages have been stagnant but keep in mind that your employer is paying for half of your health insurance and half of your social security taxes. Once you factor these in your real income has been going up.

  • @PissedFechtmeister Real income of *insurance companies* has been going up -- as have deductibles and employee contributions. This does not make employees any wealthier. Anyway, I don't have health insurance. We've had Social Security since the 30s -- that is factored in already.
