  • You can't knock the Hustle.

  • Gotta love stewie919 saying Rupert Murdoch is dumbing down America with his absolutely REDICULOUS (sic) Fox News nonsense. This was a horribly contrived video and is typical Media Matters ilk.

  • @jjtb4v r u saying everyone who makes a racist comment is a racist. i bet that u have made a racist comment?

  • he didnt call oboma a racist. he said he made a racist comment

  • @drmop2 What do you call a person who makes a racist comment?

  • I'd like to see him pressed on this issue When I saw that interview I kind of thought "um what?" You gonna tell us what it is or just sit there and smile like Crocodile Dundee's slightly stupid and age appropriately racist grandfather.

  • This is the man who destroyed Britain's newspapers with his rags The Sun and the News of the World

  • Number one news network beating out the competition with 2/3 more ratings. I love to hear people bithc about it!

  • there's a difference between saying someone's racist and saying that someone made a racist comment. MediaMatters fails.

  • @gamingeagle19 please watch the video again and try to listen closely to the questions. You fail.

  • @basticz I could say the same to you. He denied calling him a racist not that he made the comment about him saying something racist which is exactly what I pointed out moron.

  • @gamingeagle19 and how exactly did media matters fail in your simple mind?

  • @basticz "in your simple mind"

    nice.

    1) the first clip was barely 10 seconds and didn't show everything. They just cut it off. Red flag.

    2) The second clip is 5 seconds and from an INTERVIEW. So assuming Rupert didn't just randomly blurt out he made a racist comment I assume he was asked about a specific incident and he responded therefore his comment was already clarified from the start.

    3) They showed that second clip as "proof" that Rupert was "lying" even though he never denied saying it

  • @gamingeagle19 1) you seem to know how it goes on, I do too, so please tell me what exact statement after that relativates it

    2) You assume that, but do you know that? If yes, then why does he "deny that absolutely"

    3) Where did anyone accuse him of anything? Just taking that conclusion out of this clip would be like... uhm... accusing someone of being a racist just because he supposedly makes a "racist comment" (whatever it might have been, it seems to be Murdochs secret)

  • @basticz 1) I'm sorry, are we talking about the same thing here? Your comment makes no sense.

2)Yes I do know that. That's how interviews work. You get asked a question and then respond. His comment was already clarified. And he was denying calling him a racist. He saw through that hatchet job journalists question.

3)Um, the video did. I thought that was clear. They are calling him a liar. It's pretty straight forward.

It took you 3 days to come up with that? Im sorry.

  • @gamingeagle19

    1) you suggest something was ripped out of context, which it wasnt

    2) well youre wrong, because thats not how it works, when you're interviewing your own boss. the rest is on youtube, there is no clarification other than its about "blacks and whites"

3)isn't there a difference between callling someone a liar and showing that its sometimes hard to find out what someone meant?

It did take me 3 days to find out you answered, your answer was marked as spam in my email account, how true

  • The world will celebrate when Murdoch keels over.

  • Murdoch is the most dangerous man in america today.

  • He is a hypocrite like every other conservative

  • @PhillyWargamer

Murdoch's political views depends on whether their serve to earn him more money. He a greedy, power-hungry fuckhead, but to label him as every other conservative is doing a disservice to everyone.

  • FAUX NOISE - WE DISTORT - YOU DECIDE

  • People should tune into FixedNoise if they want to see how a poorly run 24/7 witchhunt-smear-campaign-political operation is run. If they want news, anything close to objective journalism, they're most definitely in the wrong place.

  • this is the man responsible for the retardation of the American people.

  • @theliberalparis

    yeah its his fault?!

  • No one liked Rupert Murdoch in the 80's or the 90's, that dislike has only grown tenfold year after year !

I'm afraid Rupert Murdoch, see's his shameless self in Beck, and that is why he likes him and backs him up !

  • Don't forget his lapdog Sean Hannity.

  • thank you rupert murdoch for dumbing down the american public with your rediculous fox news nonsense. I recomment everyone to actually tune into a news programs that covers facts and not fiction

  • >> mytinkabell: WRONG ... In 1988 candidate Bush invoked Horton to portray Governor Dukakis as soft on crime. It also used Horton in an anti-Dukakis attack ad that drew particular attention to Horton's race.

    WRONG TOO.

This is a media myth. The ACTUAL ad NEVER mentioned Horton by name & did NOT show him. Years later a FAKE ad was created...that duplicated the Bush ad...which did insert Horton. Since it was years later, people MISTAKENLY thought it was the real ad from 1988, which is was NOT.

  • Can you provide a link that can be verified?

  • Stupert Murdoch go back to Australia and mess with their internal politics.... Stupid Son of a Bitch!!

  • For those who are confused like electango, if a white South African becomes an American citizen, they are African American and don't turn black. Now for those of you with more brains than electango, what Obama was talking about was a generational thing and be thankful we've all come a lot further than electango in understanding that race is an illusion. For those interested, there is a great documentary on PBS called 'The Power of an Illusion'.

  • NEWS FLASH!!: *spiffy animation* An amazing thing has been invented! This contraption is called: the tape-recorder.

  • non-racists can make racist comments

  • you mean people that arn't white

  • Rupert, you filthy liar!

  • Murdoch lies to Republican voters because that's how they like it. It's like printing your own money.

  • @RepublicanTorture I don't think they really like to be lied to, but the problem is that most of them are too ignorant or too lazy to figure out the truth on their own. Their blind worship of Faux News and conservative talk radio is only comparable to their blind worship in their church. The GOP pisses on education as much as possible because they like an ignorant electorate. Afterall, uneducated voters are easier to dupe.

  • next go for roger ailes

  • Murdoch is a foreigner that needs to stay the F out of US business.

Go f up your own country ahle

  • I think he's so senile he doesn't know what he's saying from one minute to the next. He's just surrounded by managers making him a lot of money, and goes along with whatever they say.

  • just like his network, he's caught lying.

  • it's horrible that rupert makes his money feeding garbage to dumb people

  • In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States. During their appeal, FOX asserted that there are no written rules against distorting news in the media. They argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves. Link to follow next post.

  • He's a racist pedophile whose right-wing news agenda is trying to hurt Democrats,,,Obama and the Left-Wing British Labour Party...... Damn Him To Hell.....

  • Kinda hard to deny it when you have it on tape Rup!

  • what a dispeakable toad

  • So Murdoch thinks Obama is not a racist, but he made a racist comment, which he never tells us what Obama comment he was talking about.

  • Obama made a racist comment when he said that his grandmother was a "typical white person." Now, what is a "typical white person?" So to Obama, there's a stereotypical white person. That doesn't make Obama a racist, but it does mean that Obama made a racist comment.

  • "Barack Obama said specifically that he didn't believe his grandmother harbored any racial animosity, but that her fears were understandable and typical of those often shared by her generation." Comment was made right after the airing of the interview on WIP. Old news, discredited.

  • I heard Obama call his grandmother "a typical white person" with my own ears. He made this statement in a recorded interview. Somebody should have asked Obama what he meant by a "typical white person, but the news media generally treated Obama with kid gloves. Can you imagine what the media would have done with McCain if he had described someone as "a typical black person?" I'm sorry. On this, Media Matters is way wrong and Rupert Murdoch is right on.

  • He was talking about a typical white person for the times she grew up in, which if you look at how typical white people acted towards black people it wasn't all that great (ie, segregation, violence, hangings of black people for entertainment etc). People like you know exactly what he meant but always try to make something out of nothing because you still can't accept he won and that old senile man and dumb bitch lost. Get over it alreaady or kill yourself, either way I'd appreciate it.

  • He made a racist statement. End of story. Murdoch is correct. Media Matters and you are wrong. For the record and with your obvious low intelligence quotient you don't know this, but a typical white person does not exist. But it is a fact that hundreds of thousands of white Union soldiers died to end slavery in America. Those fallen soldiers are probably the closest thing to a typical white person we could find. Of course, an ingrate like you wouldn't understand that.

  • To say that "hundreds of thousands of white Union soldiers died to end slavery" is an over-simplification. Abolitionism was never popular among white Union soldiers, most of whom fought (and presumably died) to save the Union. Many others were drafted, and simply had no choice.

Read James McPherson "Battle Cry of Freedom" or David Blight's "Race and Reunion."

Attitudes changed toward the end of the war, in part because hundreds of thousands of black men volunteered to fight.

  • The Union split because of slavery. The North demanded that slavery end in territories west of the Mississippi River and the South wanted to spread slavery all the way to the Pacific Ocean in what is today the southwest. The Northern predominantly white soldiers were fighting to end slavery. If they didn't want to fight, they could have dodged the draft as many did or they could have joined the Confederate Army. And the North won the war and ended slavery thanks to fallen white soldiers.

  • Again, your reading of this history is oversimplified. The southern elites wanted to break up the Union to defend slavery, but most white northerners, certainly in 1861-63, fought mainly to preserve the Union, which is why Lincoln had to justify the Emancipation Proclamation, not as a first step toward abolition, but as purely a necessity of war. The 13th amendment wasn't passed until 1865.

Thousands upon thousands couldn't "dodge the draft."

And many thousands of blacks died as well.

  • @thucy2 "And many thousands of blacks died as well. "

Yep, the 54th and 55th Massachusetts are two perfect examples.

  • I am no more oversimplifying than you are. White Northern troops fought to preserve the Union and that meant a Union without Slavery. Even if an individual White Northern soldier supported slavery and was drafted, he was fighting to preserve the Union and end slavery. Many people who hated Black people wanted to end slavery because the economic system of slavery was bad apart from what it did to the slaves. It was destructive to the soil and to the economy as well.

  • It's difficult NOT to oversimply debating history in 500 cts. But until the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect in January, 1863, Lincoln had been adamant that he was NOT waging war to end slavery. And the EP only affected those parts of the country in open rebellion.

As I said, attitudes changed as the war dragged on, Lincoln's among them. When General Fremont proclaimed abolition in his military district in August 1861, Lincoln rescinded the order and publicly rebuked Fremont.

  • Slavery was a touchy subject. One could be anti slavery and still not want to send their sons to fight in the South to end slavery. The concept of keeping the Union together was an easier sell. However, the war was not popular and getting Americans to kill Americans on a battlefield was not easy either. But as the North wore the South down and as victory drew closer, ending slavery as an objective came more and more into the open and was easier to use as a political tool as well.

  • ...The reason Lincoln rebuked Fremont was because he knew northern white public opinion was against abolition, not to mention the pro-slavery whites in the border states. In fact, as late as the summer of 1864, when the war was going badly, Lincoln considered dropping abolition as a precondition to negotiations with the South. He wrote a public letter to that effect, but then changed his mind and never issued it.

At any rate, the majority of volunteers joined pre-1863, pre-Eman. Proc.

  • Slavery wore out the soil so the only way slavery could function as an economic system was if it expanded to new territories. It had worn out the Eastern Seaboard and was almost through destroying the soil of the Deep South. So by not allowing the spread of slavery into the Prairies, the end of slavery was in fact set in motion in the 1850's. The Civil War was the desperate effort of the South to save a dying way of life.

  • "Even if an individual...soldier supported slavery...he was fighting to...end slavery."

Interesting comment. Might one then also say that, even if individual white Americans aren't racist, if they derive benefits from and do nothing to oppose racism, they are still supporting a racist society, in essence making them racists? Just as pro-slavery soldiers were abolitionists?

You seem here to be agreeing with Obama's speech, the gist of which was that the legacy of racism is still with us.

  • Also one might say that even if individual black Americans aren't racist, if they derive benefits from and do nothing to oppose racism, they are still supporting a racist society, in essence making them racists? So Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan and other gazillionaires are in essence racists? They may have contributed lots of hot air regarding racism like their leader Obama, but like Obama they have done absolutely nothing about racism.

  • Yes, if an individual black person uses racism to further his or her interests, particularly at the expense of other minority people, then they are complicit in racism. In fact the term "Uncle Tom" has often been used to describe such a person.

I don't know anything about Winfrey or Jordan, except I think Winfrey for one has donated generously and started a number of projects to help the community.

But your characterzation of the president as a "racist thug" really says it all. How sad.

  • At any rate, I'm glad to see you acknowledge that slavery was the root cause of the Civil War. It amazes me how many Americans refuse to accept this. Instead they cite "states' rights" etc.--as if the right to own other human beings wasn't at the heart of the issue. All of this strikes me as the rationalization of folks who don't want to believe what a tremendous influence racism has had on the history of this nation, and how deeply it still affects our society.

    Best wishes.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about. The Civil War was about succession and how Lincoln interpreted the Constitution to be a UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and if you don't believe that, you need to read Abraham Lincoln's letter to Horace Greeley.

  • Succession or secession? It couldn't have been about succession. Lincoln won the election by garnering the most electoral votes in 1860. Lincoln favored an end to slavery and opposed secession at the same time.

  • Hope you enjoyed the link I emailed you and the letter since you were too stupid to look it up yourself.

  • Like I said, you know what he meant. Yours and Fox's attempts to paint Obama as a racist are ridiculous. And the only thing I'm not grateful for is that people like you didn't kill themselves after Obama won.

  • Listen, Einstein, I didn't paint Obama as a racist. I said Obama made a racist statement. And that's what Rupert Murdoch said. He said Obama made a racist statement. Of course, Obama may be a racist. He did, after all, sit in the racist pews of the Marxist racist Preacher Jeremiah Wright's racist church for 20 years without voicing any complaints about the racism that spewed like raw sewage from that church. Silence implies consent.

  • I listened to his comments from what he said in that "one" sermon and I found what he said to be true. If you don't like what he said then you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not true. Also you act like you right wingers know what he was preaching for 20 yrs, you have no fucking clue what he's been preaching. You act like his church is the KKK. If you ask me all churches are a little racist tho, as they say, chuch time is the most segregated hour in America.

  • The racist Marxist Preacher Jeremiah Wright said AIDS was a US government plot to kill Black people. Do you agree with that? He was proud of that dishonest statement. He issued a video through the church with that lie included among his video taped rantings. So one can only imagine the harm inflicted upon his parishioners thanks to his charm, charisma and his excessive dishonesty. And since he is Obama's "spiritual adviser," we all get a piece of the damage this preacher has caused.

  • I don't put anything past the U.S. government, look up The Syphilis Experiment. Outside of that what else did he say that you believe isn't true or racist? Funny how you people never talk about how he was a Marine who fought for this country, but I guess that doesn't count...

  • I actually think Jeremiah Wright would make a better President than Obama. That is, if he wasn't a racist Marxist. Wright came to a church with 200 members and as Pastor, Wright built his church into a massive operation with over 30,000 members. In other words, Wright has actually accomplished something in his life. Plus, unlike Obama, Wright is open and honest about his opinions and about who he is. My problem isn't with Wright. It's with the lying incompetent Obama.

  • Dude go ahead and kill yourself, you're just some loser on YouTube looking for attention.

  • You really are a profound thinker, aren't you? Really impressive. Well, that certainly explains your support for Obama.

  • electango is well known bigot on YouTube. He distorts for personal self-aggrandizement.

Besides, Murdoch's remark had nothing to do with the taken-out-of-context "a typical white person" soundbite but rather it was with regard to Beck's canard depiction of Gates-Crowley incident. Furthermore, Murdoch was caught red handed lying right into the camera. Branding one's words as racist does make him a racist. You can do a logical somersault and brush off the conclusion but it still makes you wrong.

  • Obama made the racist comment "typical white person." Murdoch claimed Obama made a racist comment. Murdoch is correct. Therefore, you are wrong because Obama did make that racist comment. Does that fact make Obama a racist? Of course not. Now, does sitting in Jeremiah Wright's racist church for 20 years and never speaking up against Wright's racism make Obama a racist? Probably. So please, since you call ME a bigot, please defend Obama's racism.

  • How was that racist? Unless he described how typical white people behave, he merely made a statement. Obama is half white, therefore I can't see, further, how you can call it racist.

  • I'm half white and can tell you... yes Obama was correct in his statement lol

  • Obama described his grandma as a typical white person so I would assume his grandma behaves in his view as a typical white person behaves. Whatever that means. The press gave Obama a pass. He didn't have to explain his racist statement. FYI..Obama is African American, not half white. According to him, that is. I hope you will afford Obama the dignity of identifying himself as he sees himself. Even though you want to excuse his racism as desperately as you obviously do.

  • obama didnt make a racist comment. his mom is white, his dad is black. therefore, he gets dibs on both sides - so you and people like you can't really play the race card here.

  • Obama is African American. He is not White. So any statement of a racist nature concerning Whites by Obama is racist. The strange thing about Obama is he made his racist statement about his White grandma who by all accounts loved him dearly and paid for his elite prep school and Ivy League educations. Obama's loyalty towards his grandmother had its limits it seems. He was willing to trash her publically as she was near death in order to save his own political skin. What a scumbag.

  • He's half white half black

  • He says he's African American. Oh, but I guess you know who he is better than he does.

  • If you look black and have African heritage, you're African American.

    However, his mother was white.

It's sad that you don't know this.

  • Obama identifies himself as a Black man. Some want to excuse Obama's racist comment regarding his grandmother by saying it's OK because his mother was White. But he himself identifies himself as a Black man and I'm going to respect him enough to accept his own view of who he is. It is sad that you do not.

  • the fact that you are so obsessed with the issue only shows your own deep-seated racial bias. have you forgotten that the generation that saw integration is still alive. just because you're too young to remember a time when whites oppressed blacks doesn't give you the right to deny that many still suffer from the echoes of bigotry to this day. it's a sensitive subject that you obviously have no right commenting on. i'll return to my bong now.

  • I see. So people who oppose Obama's mismanagement of the economy and his adoption of the Bush endless wars policy have a deep seated racial bias? And when Obama has a Republican Congress to deal with in 2010 it will be due to America's deep seated racial bias and not his utter failure to produce jobs and put America back to work?

  • his comments weren't racist you moron.

  • Obama identifies himself as a human being, the color of his skin is called phenotyping. Obama is correct, in biology there is only one race, what he identified with was a culture, you seem to lack the ability to comprehend the difference between an ethnicity and skin color.

  • @electango "Murdoch is correct."

Did you look at the video? Murdoch says he denied saying Obama made racist comments after which there is a clip of him saying Obama made racist comments. You don't see anything wrong with that?

  • Obama made at least one racist comment so if Murdoch said that Obama made a racist comment, that is factual. I'm all in favor of getting the truth out in the open, aren't you? And if a person who makes a racist comment is in fact a racist, then Obama is a racist. So Glenn Beck is also on target when he calls Obama a racist.

  • the way you jump through hoops boggles the mind, its like a theist reconciling biblical slavery with morality. The whole point of this video is Murdoch is denying he ever said "Obama made a racist comment."

  • Sorry. I'm not really interested in Murdoch. I'm interested in whether Obama made a racist statement or not and he did make a racist statement. This is well documented.

  • You just hit the newest low. In the "context" of the story he was telling, his reference to a "typical white person" was clearly geared toward a specific incident -- mainly, his grandmothers discriminatory action against a black person which was "prevalent" among the people in that time. Denying that fact brands you a cretin who only craves for intellectual masturbation and lately, you've been running dry. Take a hike.

  • Then why didn't Obama just say his grandmother was prejudiced against Black people? Why did he say his grandmother was a "typical white person?" Why did he tar and feather an entire ethnic group as racists because of the racist actions of one person? And why are you excusing Obama's racism? Before you called me a bigot. Now you are excusing the racism of Obama. And now, I'll let you get back to your bong.

  • Only in a mind that revels in conspiratorial paranoia and crippled epistemology that a simple statement morphs into a racist remark. Your cretinous question clearly illustrates why someone in your mental capacity can never run for a position higher than guarding one's deodorant. You actually expect the POTUS candidate to go on the national TV and disparage his living grandmother in such strong words rather than a subtle way to convey his message w/o going Jerry Springer as you so wishfully hope!

  • Can somebody drop this fool for me.

P.S. Why is it taking you 50 minutes to compose half a dozen comments? Do you type with your eyelashes?

  • I asked you why you who attacked me for being a bigot is defending the bigotry of Obama? Quit hiding behind sanctimonious puerile name calling and answer the question. BTW Obama dragged his grandmother into the mud of his filthy political struggles because he is a scumbag. That certainly explains your support for him.

  • Loaded question which was debunked by almost 8 other people on this forum and counting. Your refusal to accept the fact that you have an unhealthy infatuation with a self-devised issue clearly brands you a putative illiterate who maintains an abysmal reading comprehension record. If all failed, you move on to other self-imposed questions while adhering to the same rhetorical tactics to mud the water for personal self-aggrandizement.

You are a lost cause, butter troll.

  • You are obviously quite comfortable with your own racism. Well, I hope you take away from this the insidious nature of racism and just how self righteous you yourself are. I'm glad I was able to help make you a better person.

  • Your psychological self-satisfying answers are all you are left with now -- keep patting yourself on the back. You must be a legend in your own mind. You desperately attempted to make a case for Obama's unsubstantiated racist nature but fell flat on your own face of confusion when equivocations were punctured -- now coming out flatly implicating yourself as the winner in the argument, pfft! Your delusional prattle and lack of intellectual integrity are here for all to see.

  • Obama's career has been built on successfully painting all opposition as racist opposition. Any opponent of Obama opposes him because Obama is Black. Obama is a racist political thug who gets down in the mud with anyone who opposes him and brands that opponent as a racist. And up to now, this racist strategy worked beautifully. Nobody wanted to confront Obama. But with unemployment skyrocketing and particularly impacting the Black community, this strategy is wearing thin as it should.

  • You sound just like Glenn Beck now. I couldn't lure you into a pit of self-confession any better. I rest my case.

P.S. Find me a KKK knight that invites a black guy and a white guy for a "beer" to his house because they had a contentious moment? If you did, I'll accept your assertion that Obama is a racist. Otherwise, suck it hard, suck it long.

  • Why do you support Obama anyway? All he has done is fumbled the economic policies and made unemployment much worse. No job creation is forecast until 2011 at least . He is continuing the Bush endless wars policies and readying the destruction of his Presidency by his proposed escalation of the Afghanistan War. Are you so excited by seeing a Black person sitting in the Oval Office that you will accept cluelessness and abject incompetence in a President? What is wrong with you?

  • Assumption is a mother of all fuck-ups. Who said I support Obama? Just because I twirled your falsehood, it doesn't make me another sheeple in the sea of impressionable minds.

He has not fumbled the economy, simply put a halt on a downfall spiral of the country. What he hasn't done yet is to put a rush on the reversal trend. It appears that you are mounting your baseless accusations, i.e. racism, solely because you disagree with his policies. Very childish.

  • No job creation should be viewed in the context of the severity in which the economy has been. Everybody assumes we should have a double digit economic growth and have had a cut in the unemployment by half. People with such simpleton visage clearly have no clue how the world actually operates.

Remember the saint Reagan? When he took office, the unemployment was at ~7%. In a year it went up to 10% and remained there for 2 years.

  • And that was merely a sever recession without the catastrophic global financial meltdown which rivals the era of the Great Depression. Therefore, it would be inane to assume certain policies have failed before given a proper time to take effect. Come back in 2 years, if we were in the recession, then bark as if the world owns you an apology.

  • You clearly have an issue with his race rather than his performance and it shows. You need to seek professional help, immediately.

  • And there it is. The world famous Obama race card. Any opposition, even legitimate opposition, is deemed racism. I need professional help because I oppose Obama's cluelessness and Obama's incompetence. Soon, the entire nation will need professional help. There will be a severe shortage of psychiatrists!

  • It should be crystal clear to any objective observer that the economic "stimulus" packages originally begun by Bush and adopted and expanded by Obama have been abject and utter failures. They are simply hundreds of billions of dollars intended for jobs creation which have not created any jobs. In fact, jobs continue to be lost. And Obama is standing by his Wall Street economic team which has totally failed to deliver needed jobs creation. Americans who need jobs have run out of time.

  • Obama has sent the deficit into the stratosphere with his Bush inspired economic "stimulus" packages. Billions given to banks are not being loaned out to businesses as originally intended and instead the banks are hoarding the money. They can make more money by playing the kinds of games they played which led to the economic meltdown in the first place. Obama of course is clueless. He is standing by his corrupt, inept economic advisory team. And you are an apologist for this incompetent.

  • Deficits are meaningless in the context of overall national debt; the reduction of the latter is the ultimate goal. However, the recent financial collapse left the policy makers no other choice to enact certain fiscal and monetary policies to combat the downfall of the entire economy. Not everything is going to be rosy now -- get that mentality out of your head.

The banks lending trend hasn't been great because businesses are not producing or expanding as much as you hope them to.

  • Deficits are meaningless in the context of overall national debt so the reduction of the latter should be considered the ultimate goal. However, the recent financial collapse left the policy makers no other choice to enact certain fiscal and monetary policies to combat the downfall of the entire economy. not everything is going to be rosy now -- get that mentality out of your head.

  • The banks are not lending because businesses are not growing or expanding therefore is not much to invest in.

If you don't like the way Obama's hands tied behind his back and want him to go after the banks, then quit singing the Libertarian hosanna. That's how Capitalism operates; the banks would use every opportunity to grow themselves at the expense of everyone else -- even those who paid them to get bailed out.

  • If you want nationalization of banks, then say it, otherwise, this is the deal and Obama cannot interfere with the private sector's internal business. Tough luck.

There are little opportunities for these institutions to invest. Obama is not clueless but his hands are tied. He can't pull the plug on them or else the economy would collapse and if he meddles in their work, he is labeled as a Communist. You can't have it both way.

  • I'm not apologizing for anyone, as a matter of fact, from the day one I have been against the selection of Larry Summer.

  • The banks received hundreds of billions from the US Treasury and they chose to not lend the money to job creating entrepreneurs. Instead they sent the money overseas or played money games with it to bulk up their own profits. Now job creating entrepreneurs are too nervous to move forward. Obama's whole economic crew needs to be sent packing and replaced by people with common sense. We need a Republican Congress to conduct a full investigation of Obama's catastrophic failures.

  • Please take an economics class!!!!

  • The administration HAD to dole out hundreds of billions of dollars to the banks and not institute restrictions on the banks that forced them to LOAN out the money to other institutions which would create jobs? Really? No, what happened is the administration assumed what was good for the large banks was good for the American people. This turned out to be an absurd assumption and when the Congress goes Republican in 2010 as it should due to Obama's incompetence, you'll know why.

  • electango: "Obama's career has been built on successfully painting all opposition as racist...Obama is a racist political thug who gets down in the mud..."

These judgments are so hyperbolic, so far removed from reality, I can only shake my head in sadness. I would have thought Obama's career was based on a brilliant mind, a Harvard education, remarkable eloquence, not to mention an ability to inspire others. You can disagree with his policies, but to paint the man as a racist cipher is absurd.

  • Obviously you haven't followed Obama's campaign closely. The reason racial issues are so closely intertwined with Obama is because he makes them such an integral part of his career. It's how he wins elections. The reason Bill Clinton accused the Obama campaign of playing the race card against him in South Carolina in 2008 is because Obama used successfully racial divisiveness to separate Hillary Clinton from black voters. Obama smeared Bill Clinton as a racist in order to win votes.

  • "Obama smeared Bill Clinton as a racist."

No, Bill Clinton damaged Hillary's campaign by making a bunch of condescending and testy remarks which didn't go down well among black (and white) Democrats. Obama went out of his way to try to elevate the debate, for instance, refusing to call G. Ferraro a racist for her comments.

But Obama is tactically brilliant, especially if what you say is true. Imagine being able to use "the race" card to win his Senate race against Alan Keyes! Amazing!

  • Actually, Bill Clinton said Obama smeared Bill Clinton as a racist. I'll take his word over yours in any political discussion, thank you. Obama makes race the central narrative of almost everything he does. He's shameless. He got caught up in his close association with the racist Marxist Afrocentric Jeremiah Wright and then he "elevated" the debate by smearing his white grandmother as a racist. He smeared his grandmother to save his political skin. That's tactical brilliance!

  • "Actually, Bill Clinton said Obama smeared Bill Clinton as a racist. I'll take his word over yours..."

Is this the same Bill Clinton who said, "I never had sexual relations with that woman..." or words to that effect?

Anyway, please give me a cite for where and when Bill Clinton said that Obama personally had "smeared me as a racist." The exact quote would be most appreciated, along with a source I can verify for myself.

    Thanks.

  • You really don't know much about Obama or Bill Clinton do you? LOL! I worked the Obama campaign, I think I know how his campaign ran. And Bill and Obama are quite close. You are hysterical!

  • I followed the campaign closely. After South Carolina, Bill Clinton was enraged that Obama smeared him as a racist when Obama used racial divisiveness to peel away Black voters from Hillary. Obama is quite willing to cause untold racial strife to further his political aims. As he campaigns, he ratchets up antagonism between the races when he feels it necessary. The discussion becomes about the racism of his opponents instead of his flawed ideas or his flawed policies. Obama is a demagogue.

  • If you followed the campaign closely, please explain this: ABC Feb. 19, 2009: Former President Bill Clinton gives President Barack Obama an "A" grade for his first month in office, but tells ABC News that Obama needs to put on a more positive face when speaking to the American people about the economy and must keep pressure on Republicans who try to obstruct his plans.

  • Psst...same article: Clinton gives former President George W. Bush a harsh review on the economy, however, blaming the Republican for the current fiscal crisis by not moving sooner to help struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure.

"I personally believe, based on my experience over the years with the economy, that if we moved aggressively on this home problem a year and a half ago, even a year ago, as much as 90 percent of the current crisis could have been avoided," he said.

  • The bungling of the economy spans the Bush and Obama Administrations. The housing crisis is bipartisan in origin. There were Democrats and Republicans in positions of authority who refused to see warning signs of the impending housing crash. There was a housing bubble ready to explode and both sides continued to pump air into the bubble by refusing to allow regulation of the industry which would have both slowed the industry and have made the housing market more sound.

  • The time to do something about the foreclosure crisis was way before the crash. Neither the Democrats running the Congress nor the Republicans running the Administration wanted to put an end to the drunken rout. People were making too much money. But allowing buyers to buy multiple houses with no money down when buyers don't have jobs is a recipe for disaster and that's what happened.

  • Actually you are incorrect again, it was investors who had great jobs and developers who obviously are employed in development that brought down the housing market. As for Obama OR Bush, the deregulation was done under Clinton with a Republican Congress and specifically it was Phil Gramm, Jim Leach and Thomas Bliley Jr. when the overturned the Glass Stegall act. The foreclosure records prove this. And there was another thing at play, it was "flip that house".

  • There were a LOT of other things at play as well, and they all combined for a recipe for disaster, but there were warnings, there was time to act, but there was apathy from the BUSH ADMINISTRATION. And that is what REALLY happened.

  • Were Barney Frank, Franklin Raines, Chris Dodd, and Maxine Waters part of the Bush Administration? No, those Democrats were leading the charge against the re-regulation which might have prevented the crash of the housing market. And no doubt benefiting handsomely from the bubble. And why? Because they wanted everyone--even low income and poor Americans--to own houses. If you are unable or unwilling to see the reality of what caused the problem in its entirety, how can you fix the problem?

  • A lot of things brought down the housing market. The deregulation was the beginning. Clinton signed off on overturning Glass Stegall Act. Investors, developers, buyers, sellers, agents...everyone was making money off inflated housing values. It isn't an either or situation. Buyers without jobs or downpayments were involved AND developers, investors and sellers were involved. And nobody was complaining until the whole thing crashed. Hindsight is always 20-20

  • Clinton is a Democrat. His wife is Obama's Sec'y of State. Clinton was the most competent President since FDR. He naturally would speak positively of his wife's boss and a Democratic Party President. He complained about Obama's racially divisive campaigning during the South Carolina primary almost a full year earlier. So he could have given Obama an "A" grade for his first month in office and been entirely enraged earlier with Obama for Obama's racist campaign tactics.

  • Do you know Bill Clinton? Can you tell what his personal opinions are? I think not. But luckily I do know him AND his wife and both like Obama and think he is doing a good job. Not because of any favors he does for them, not because he's a Democrat. But because he's pragmatic and like Clinton and like Hillary, Centrist.

  • It's irrelevant how Clinton feels about Obama right now. When Obama used racially divisive tactics as he peeled Black voters away from Hillary in South Carolina, Bill Clinton quite correctly accused Obama of using the race card against Hillary. I know Al Gore and Jimmy Carter used racist tactics in campaigns before, but I've never heard Clinton accused of this. So for Obama to do what he did showed a desperation almost at the scorched earth level.

  • First you use Clinton and how YOU think he feels about something then claim it is irrelevant what his true feelings are. You seriously have a problem with logic.

  • So in your mind, Clinton liked it when Obama used the race card against him in South Carolina? Is that your contention? And in your mind, because Clinton now likes Obama personally, he's OK with Obama's racially divisive tactics in winning the South Carolina primary?

  • In my mind, you are nuts. You want to know what Bill feels, write him a letter and ask. Until then, stop projecting your own racial attitudes on others because Bill is not a racist, and he doesn't think Obama is either. And what confusion there was between them has been resolved to both their satisfaction, I suggest you attempt to do the same. You have a lack of comprehension that is as astounding as it is annoying.

  • You repeat what I say (as in their is not one economic cause to the collapse) and yet you lay the blame on a single person. It amazes me at your total hypocrisy and your lack of ability to see it. I'm done responding to you, but by the way, I did mean secession and I would think a genius like you would have comprehended that with context.

  • Oh! There you go! I was writing so quickly I spelled their when I meant there so you can disregard the whole post as you can't comprehend typos. Bye Einstein. LOL

  • I don't forgive politicians like Obama who use race as a weapon to divide the electorate. Al Gore was the one who introduced the hateful racist Willie Horton campaign strategy in the 1988 Presidential campaign which George H W Bush picked up on and ran with in the general election. I don't forgive those two louts. And I don't forgive Obama either. He put his own political career above the interests of the electorate and that sickens me as well.

  • WRONG.

In 1987, Horton assaulted a man and raped his fiancée after escaping a furlough from prison in Massachusetts. In 1988, presidential candidate George H.W. Bush invoked Horton on the campaign trail to portray Mass.Governor Michael Dukakis as soft on crime. it was also used Horton in an anti-Dukakis attack ad that drew particular attention to Horton's race. The ad was produced by Larry McCarthy & current FOX News Channel President Roger Ailes.

  • Obama uses race as a weapon ?

I see where you get your news...

  • That's right. Obama's political career is based on tarring and feathering his political opponents as racists. That you do not know this does not speak well for you.

  • Do you speak English? Do you understand context in language? To you comprehend interpretation? Do you realize language is not literal but subjective and objective? Have you heard of the study of linguistics? There is a reason we study language, because words are symbols, images you create in your mind. It's perception. What you hear with your own ears is not what your mind relates as the meaning of those words.

  • So, that is why I posted the INTENT electango. Because that is how language is deciphered. You are wrong! You misunderstood what you heard because your perception was not based on the President's intent.

  • Intent? Obama intended to not allow unemployment to rise above 8%, but he screwed up and picked a bunch of corrupt incompetents to run his economic policies and now unemployment is 10&+ and rising. Intent plus $2.50 will get you a jumbo latte at your local Starbucks. What matters is not intent but results and in regards to results, Obama is falling down on the job.

  • LOL! Obama is in charge of unemployment? Have you ever seen a tsunami electango? George Bush led this country into one of the worst financial crisis' that it has ever experienced, and sad but true, those effects are going to be felt for years. As for your numbers, you are a bit low, the U6 is 17.5% my friend. And the author of this catastrophe began long before 10 months ago.

  • Maybe you should have been paying attention 5 years ago while economists warned of the looming disaster instead of riding the crest of the wave the bankers created. That's the thing about bubbles electro, they look all pretty while they float along, but they burst.

  • Bush led the country into the recession and devised the flawed stimulus package which Obama doubled down on when he took office. Obama's failed economic policies have made the recession worse than he predicted. Obama failed to incorporate in his stimulus package (as did Bush BTW) requirements that the big banks actually loan out the money they received to jobs creating entrepreneurs. So don't pass the buck. Obama adopted the Bush recovery plan. It's Obama's failure now.

  • Actually, this nation should have crashed, and that didn't happen. So be thankful you have a job (if you do, you seem to spend a lot of time on here) and be glad you actually have some value left to your money. Because frankly, it's a miracle we didn't crash. But the problems Bush created are going to take some time to fix. And Obama's economic policies will have no impact until 2010, one year after he takes office, just like every president before him.

  • Obama's economic policies are having a tremendous impact right now. The banks which received hundreds of billions of government bailout money are making huge profits but are not lending the money out to jobs creating entrepreneurs. And so no jobs are being created and none are foreseen to be created until at least 2011 if then. So the effect of the slipshod Obama economic policies is increased joblessness well into the future. Truman's motto holds true for eternity...."The Buck Stops Here."

  • Wrong again, we had a spike in new employment that fell off after the banks clamped down credit, and you can thank the Republican Governors for not spending the stimulus but paying down their debt which didn't help their economies and produced no infrastructure jobs or allowed those who would have been employed to buy goods thus contributing to the GDP. You need to figure out what the buck is before you figure out where it stops.

  • The banks got hundreds of billions from the federal government and neither Bush nor Obama put regulations in that would have forced the banks to loan the money out to job creating entrepreneurs. The banks then kept doing what they were doing before....giving executives obscene bonuses, sending their money overseas and playing money games. Bank profits rose but no jobs were or are being created. Why didn't Obama order the banks to loan the money to people who would begin hiring?

  • Just exactly what "power" do you think the President holds? I think you are confused with dictatorships. Congress has the power you speak of and it takes a 2/3rd majority. I don't know if you've looked at the make up of the Congress lately, but I suggest you do so. And then I want you to go to Open Congress and look at what lobbyists are doing and PAC's and 527's.

  • You have little knowledge of politics, little comprehension of History and almost nil understanding of Economics. I suggest you stop attempting to be a Jack of all trades, because you are seriously a master of none. A little knowledge in your case is a very dangerous thing. Your logical reasoning sucks and you apophenia arguments are absolutely hysterical!

  • Jobs creation is one of the most important concerns of the President. Bill Clinton was rightly credited with creating millions of jobs and his popularity as President is largely due to his success as a jobs creator. Obama, on the other hand, has so far failed abysmally as a jobs creator. His popularity as President is dropping into the tank as a result. He will also as a result be dealing with a GOP Congress after 2010. Obama needs to figure out how to create jobs or he's Jimmy Carter.

  • ambush them like Bill O'Reilly does!

  • Can't they just claim he has a monopoly on the news in a way that is harmful to the US?

  • why is he here - REPATRIATE RUPERT MURDOCH NOW!!!

  • isn't he very near bankrupt these days??? pity... fox news has provided some of the greatest laughs in history....

  • Even if that's true, he could easily remedy that by selling any of the many companies he owns, like his "news" channels and "news"papers.

  • maybe MSNBC is interested...
