...sorry. Getting a little too emotional. I'm actually crying... Wow! She's absolutely, stunningly beautiful! You're one handsome-looking family! It's been eons since I had my shichi-go-san picture taken. (35+ years ago!!)
Although, back then, we didn't have as many outfit changes as she did here. Is that the norm nowadays? One thing I loved growing up in Japan was the fact that we had many special (traditional) occasions only for children scattered all year round.
Hi TiramisuHappy, Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to hear that this video brought back some nice memories.
It does seem that many photo studios in Japan now offer Shichigosan packages which include multiple outfits. This particular studio chain is called 'Studio Alice' and they have a special deal which includes a one day kimono rental service along with the studio photos. The photos can be taken in advance adn the kimono used when the family visits the shrine. -Kurt
Hello phmedia, Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm not sure if you are referring to the video camera used to make the video or the photo studio's digital camera. The video camera is a Sony Handycam. I'm afraid that I do not know anything about the camera used by the studio. Sorry. -Kurt :-)
Actually this trip was just our annual summer holiday. However we are indeed celebrating Emily's special 7th year in the shichigosan tradition as you mentioned. The years though are actually 3, 5 and 7 as shichi means 7, go means 5 and san means 3. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I remember shichigosan... don't know why I said nine. I still remember Japan and Japanese enough that I knew better. Ah well... :) Either way, she looks great!
Hello muffles12, Emily is wearing a number of different kimomo as well as a gown provided by the photo studio. Yes, the fall season has certainly arrived here in Shizuoka though we have yet to see any snow atop nearby Mt. Fuji. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
Hello muffles12, Thank you for viewing and commenting. My family and I have been to Tokyo Disneyland once and we had a great time! I especially enjoyed seeing Minnie Mouse wearing her kimono! The photos studio is called 'Studio Alice' located in Shizuoka city. I believe that there are many 'Studio Alice' portrait studios in Japan though I may be wrong. Thanks again for visiting! -Kurt
Hi F1circuit, Thank you for your concern regarding the typhoon. The storm has passed now and I spotted many falled trees this morning though this appears to be the worst of the damage. I was hit by a flying bucket last night after I foolishly went outside to have a look. Otherwise no major damage to report in Shizuoka. I haven't checked the full news yet and I hope that the same is true elsewhere in Japan. Thanks for asking. -Kurt :-)
Good video. I heard about a typhoon heading toward Japan on the weather channel and I immediately thought of you and your family. I hope you guys stay safe, they said it might hit the Tokyo vacinity. I wondered if you have encountered many earthquakes or typhoons while living in Japan. Thanks for responding to my comments and others; it is very much appreciated. -f1circuit
Hello F1circuit, Thank you for writing and for your concern regarding the typhoon. Yes, we experience many typhoons and earthquakes here in Shizuoka. The center of this storm should pass directly over us later today and already the winds are howling and the rain is flooding everything! I'm hoping that noone will get hurt with this one. Thanks again for your concern! -Kurt
I wish the (okay, most) studios did that here- make sure everyone is looking their best, smiling and all. And I can't believe she stays still so long, such a little model!!
You say 'This event was done...' What was done before cameras came about?
Hello Luminasita, Thank you for watching and commenting. Before cameras came along the kids would walk about their neighborhood visiting family and friends before then going to the local shrine. These events still take place today though the photo shoot is an important new addition. -Kurt :-)
可愛くて賢そうな子ですね。

Hello! Is this for Emily's 5th birthday? I know that in Japanese culture, the 5th, 7th, and 9th birthday's are important.
She looks great in the photos! :)
