I seen this done before , but I`d rather use contact cement " stay-put" is the best.... working in a shop everything has to be fast ,, hurry hurry hurry lol but if your at home yellow glue works fine .......cheers
Thanks for a great video. I just book and butt matched 4 pieces of madreone burl about 12 x 25" each. It was very wavy and stiff. I slip sheet and double cut the seems. I used craft paper to make sure that i did not prematurely glue down seam, I then sprayed lacquer on it and found more bubbles, Out came the iron and melted the paint some, Sanded, painted again then finished as usual 10+ heavy coats plus sanding. the seams filled in real nice and overall it came out PERFECT. looks like glass!
great video! i was just curious where you buy your veneers? im looking for relatively large sheets preferably larger that 1'x4', and cheap would be nice too thanks!
Hi. I've got some walnut veneer that is not very flat.. do you reckon soaking and weighting it would flatten it? Or.. would you just stick it on and cut the mounds? ( have never done this before... I'm after the simplest method, it's just for a small book cover. Cheers, Sarah.
Great info- I pre shrink the veneer before -heating it a little before gluing- I had to make some curved drawer fronts and this technique saved me a lot of time. Thanks
If you are getting shrinkage then you have the iron set to high or the glue wasn't completely dry before you began. You can also try gluing the pieces a day or two a part.
I haven't had the problem of the veneers separating when glued edge to edge.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.

Sarah,
You can use a damp rag to wipe over the veneer then use and iron to flatten it out. It's like iron a shirt ;-)

thanks for the comments .... so is it better to do a bit at a time. rather than blue taoe the bits together then iron them all on......
or iron one on..... then wait then iron the next on and so on

Veneering is not an exact science, even the most experienced woodworker will have a gap here or there.

when ya iron the wood then shrinks a bit and leaves a gap from the 2 veneer bits is what i mean
larksp 3 years ago
You'd need to joint the edges of the veneers first.
joefusco1960 3 years ago
how would you glue more than one together. and still get the no gaps in the veneer
