well sanctus (the old man) in dmc4 says "i must salute a man with the blood of sparda" to nero so ya. ive beaten the game so many times and i am still investigating on who nero is. im wonderin if for dmc5 maybe its neros backstory like what they did for how dante got his demon form in dmc3.
if u ve completed th game, thers too many questions as to who nero can really be. he could be vergil, or he could be a son of sparda but different mother to vergil and dante. one thing isfor sure though spardas blood runs through his veins. its said in the game

He even uses the same phrases as Vergil when he uses his sword...and within him is "Nero Angelo" a.k.a. Vergil...duh. Just as a little spoiler for you, to ruin your little "NO VERGIL LOLZISUXDIXOR" rant - Dante is there to prevent Vergil from re-awakening in Nero so Mundus doesn't sense him and try to reclaim him. What makes it even more obvious is the fact that Nelo Angelo + Vergil = Nero, The "R" in vergil combined with "Nelo" could make Nero, Sort of like in Dragonball Z with goku and Vegeta, Fuse = Gogeta/Vegito (The "I" in vegito is because in japan Vegeta is spelt Vegita) Combining someone usually would combine their names i guess

As for the whole Vergil Nero theory i don't really know in my opinion Vergil is somehow in Nero's head, not controlling him, because Neros reaction to when he saw Dante isn't as if he is Vergil, so i say Nero has Vergil in his head, that is my theory.

there is a trailer, where you can see nero getting possessed by vergil... you see that, because he carries vergils yamato, has red eyes and says "give me more power". he also hast wings like an angel "angelo". this could be the connection between nelo angelo and nero angelo everyone is talking about. They are not the same person, but vergil will possess him
I dont want to start an arguement, but Nero is wielding the Yamato which got stabbed into him releasing his devil trigger (just like the rebellion and Dante) and he sounds like Vergil wanting more power?
