I read this book. Regardless of whether you believe this or not, it's a well written empirical scientific account of several Theories. I recommend to anyone interested in scientific process.
Water does _not_ drain differently in northern and southern hemispheres. The affected area is too small for the Coriolis Effect to have any significance. Do a Snopes search for Coriolis for more detail.
Also, Coriolis is based on the rotating Earth, not the magnetic field.

And a pole shift doesn't "shut off" our magnetosphere, it twists and binds it up. Some areas would still have a strong magnetic shell, others it would be virually non-existant.

@jaminjax10 Yeah all the measured pole shifts have been from 5000 years to 50 million years. It seems to have no rhyme or reason to it, so it COULD happen suddenly, but it would be statistically rare.
And a pole shift doesn't "shut off" our magnetosphere, it twists and binds it up. Some areas would still have a strong magnetic shell, others it would be virually non-existant.
This kinda reminds me of Cayce's prediction that there would be "safe" areas.

The most obvious facts:
1) No large celestial bodies will approach Earth in 2012.
2) The flyby of a big object can't cause the crust to be dragged like that. The effect of the flyby (the tidal force is the most notable effect) is negligible compared to the energy required to drag the crust with respect to the mantle.
3) Pole shift is just the shift of the Magnetic poles, not the Geographical ones.
4) What's actually going to happen in 2012 is a huge solar flare hitting Earth's magnetic shield.

@Iceman5164 Due to polar drift, the magnetic poles have always been moving (currently: North m. pole at 60~55km/yr, South - 15~10). Geomagnetic reversal is when the Earth's mag. field changes its orientation. It's not known how it may affect us because it was never observed by humans with instrumentation. The last time it happened was 780000 years ago and prehistoric humans certainly survived that. But they didn't have electronics that could be damaged by variable magnetic fields.
