I think you really hit the nail on the head, here. I just read a book about people with drinking problems, and the thesis was that by medicalizing "alcoholism," and classing it as a disease--sthg people have no control over, the biomedical establishment totally takes their power away and creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I can see some parallels to what you're saying about mental "illness."
Yes, and they try and also say it can be genetic like they do with 'mental illness' which also takes the power away. Because then people feel it is determined and they have no power!
Which really increases profits for the pharmaceutical industry, because then people are led to believe they need 'medical help'
Nicely said. I can't help but wonder whether the new demon of mental illness is a function of doctors not having the time or the diagnostic sophistication to recognise "socialisation illnesses", and their increasing willingness to prescribe e.g. SSRIs and TCAs to get anxious, distressed, overstimulated and grieving people out of the waiting rooms.
The research putting placebo as more effective than prozac is interesting. Maybe the pharma peddlers are playing a propagandist role here too...
they are masters of using language as manipulation so for example will change terms to suit their brutal system such as changing someone who is 'unemployed' (already a loaded term!) to a 'job seeker'
Really people are dis-spirited. Our spirits are broken from the violence coming from all angles. But they chhose to call this 'mentally ill' because then THEY can 'treat it'
People don't like to admit to having had a "breakdown". I am actually impressed by anyone who admits to it. To me, "the breakdown" is a normal and natural process anyway in this abnormal living which we live in - this crap we call "civilisation". What is abnormal is to fight the "breakdwon" and go on to prescription drugs to avoid it. Like you say, people don't want to be seen as being "mentally ill" and will do anything to avoid been seen as such, including going on to prescription drugs.
I know. Look at that term as well 'breakdown' which ALSO suggests a machine! What they mean is is that we are/our role in this system is to be a productive machine consumer buyer. Anything other is brea-down which must be 'fixed'
As soon as people accept 'medication' they are already put down as being mentally ill with abc, whatever.
You must checkout Psychetruth (i will put a link on details later) Dr John Breeding's videos too. Where he says how labelling us as 'mentally ill' is like this 'magic trick'. Cause it makes everything else disappear. It absolves the violent culture!
I think depression is a natural reaction/response to the crap of this world - this thing called "civilisation" that we live in. We are bound to get depressed when we are not living naturally, when we are living artificially and suppressing what we think, say and feel. Yes, "breakdown" does suggest we need "servicing" - and what kind of "servicing" do we get - put on a list for one hour a week ineffective therapy to re-educate us to societal norms or else put on prescription drugs.
I was on the prozac and citalopram for over 5 years. What little talk therapy I got and even paid for didn't really help much at all either. Two months ago I'd had enough and decided to come off the prozac. Of course the depression will come back because it's a natural reaction to this life for me. But at least I'll have to deal with things without drugs. The prescription drugs didn't really resolve things, they just made me less likely to take time off work - and that's all they really want.
Damn right. THE name of the game is--TO GET US BACK TO WORK!
notice the 'mental health movement'--in UK anyhow is getting heavy now with people classed mentally ill on 'incapacity benefit'. So what is first thing they do. They change the language from that to...have forgot for now, but they have.
Yes. they use the term 'depression' in its clincal sense. They --the ones who believe in the mental illness myth-- will argue something like this: 'well all of us get depressed from time to time, but CLINICAL depression is a disease and is very dangerou needs 'treating'"
But in the past pre-bio-psychiatry this was called 'melancholia'. So they use language to enforce their myth on us--hence 'CLINICAL depression'---and people are taken in by their authority. also many dont really HAVE anywhere to turn but them!
I think people CAN refuse to be put on anti-depressants. And they can insist on getting GOOD and EFFECTIVE talk therapy instead of the mundane dross offered by the GPs, and refuse to see a therapist if that therapist isn't helping. Of course that person will be accused of being a shirker / someone who does not want to work. My experience of anti-depressants is that they are a farce - and it took me over 5 years to admit to this and come off them for the second time.
But you know. they have done these experiments which show how most of us blindly follow authority. So what i mean is that many times people feel pressured To take 'medication'
Espwecially if trying to get offa the rat race. Then they really wanna know why yu aint on them pills
each individual being has a unique perspective of life, which i feel should not only be respected but also actively encouraged...there are many worlds/realities/dimensions to be experienced...i think the more we accept and appreciate each others' diverse perspectives and experiences the better we will be able to explore existence without fear...
Zezt, off the prescriptions drugs now I am noticing I am so much less tolerant of the violent, aggressives, and bullies. I probably went on the prescription drugs in the first place because I couldn't cope and I was desperate. I hate the thugs, the bullies, the bastards out there who do harm to others. I don't think it's such a bad thing now to be off the prescription drugs and to feel this way about them. They are the trash and they should not be tolerated, but instead they get soft policing.
haha. I really agree with you! The name of the game is suppressing emotion. Even talking back to 'authority' has been classed a 'mental disorder' in the friggin DSM bible. yeah!
Which means they are covering themselves on all sides.
FEEL your anger and distress is what I encourage. let it out. let the pain and tears out
yeah. he was a bit of a mystery. would loved to have seen his face. maybe he's back, or will be back. IF i find his email i'll try contact him. Loved him!
There is a serious need for healing. This system has done so much damage to us, and to the world around us. Pretty much everything is in need of healing at this point.
Oh yeah!! And HOW. I can really feel it. I mean so many young people is drinking themselves into diseases and early graves; very high suicide rate especially with young males' loads of people on 'shrink meds'. this is serious !
you say it man "The system has done so much damage to us"
yes, i think what was said around 4:30; if we feel distressed by the life we are force fed, then somehow we're defective... is chillingly apt and what is readily accepted nowadays.
yip! and that term 'defective' is really a machine term of course. we, like Nature--as dug by a mechanistic mindset--are 'defective machines' if we aint productive according to the needs of 'effiency'--another machine term
i was quite convinced of your madness already :). makes me want to watch more

Yes. So do I. Well put indeed astraljester!
( I am missing panickingjuggler. his accounts gone :(... he was really unique)
when you think~~every leaf on a tree is unique. every fingerprint. every pebble on a beach.
how much more so us. yet we are made to fear our very uniqueness. which is why its so important to get our heads round what is being done TO us.

check out 'complex post-traumatic stress disorder' on wikipedia
the constant assault of mass culture damages us in ways seen and unseen
pennilesscripple 3 years ago
I have just checked it out. Thanks.
OK. It is using shrink-terms isn't it?
I feel the way they talk/use terms there violent.
It is safely within the remit of clinical-speak which does not really deeply challenge the mental illness myth

cont))it categorizes/labels/stigamatizes. one can see people in a line with 'PSTD'
and in a row behind another group with 'C-PSTD'
and with another line with 'BORDER LINE PERSONALITY DISORDER'
it is very ugly and violent
