  • I have the Shrek 3D DVD

  • i think that film like road to eldorado and sinbad, didn't bomb because there bad films, i actully think there a billion times better than some of dreamworks newer shit like "bee movie" n stuff, i honestly just think that the fact that the were 2-D and more traditional made it so they didn't really catch the kids eye as much as the computer generated films at the time, that and during the time they were realised they weren't exactly marketed very well.

  • LOL "Buy me I'm cute!"

  • The Goddess's name was ERIS, pronounced "Err-iss". Ares was the Greek god of war.

  • Metallica doesn't fit in the Old West.

  • Mrs. Tweety BOUGHT the chicken-pie machine, she didn't INVENT it! And they were trying to escape LONG before the machine was bought because chickens who didn't lay eggs got eaten!

  • 3:59 John Candy? o.o

4:02 messed up, but funny. xD

  • In all honesty, I enjoyed Spirit and Sinbad. True, they're not as good as some of the films, but they are definitely ones to watch every now and then. Heck, I enjoyed them more that Antz and Chicken Run.

  • I actually really liked Spirit:Stallion of the Cimarron. It isn't as good I remember but I still enjoy it watching. Now music on the other hand is far better than I remember and is easily the best thing about the movie.

  • 03:31-03:37, where did you get that picture of Shrek?

  • Once again, I NEEDZ TO SEE MORE 2D MOVIES ON SINBAD AND EL DORADO'S ADVENTURES!! WHY?!?!?!

  • I love both Shrek and Spirit very much! They are some of my favourite animated films ever!

  • Actually, When Mike Myers first viewed Shrek (in its rough animation), he stated that he himself wasnt pleased with his performance. And he asked the producers if he could re-record all his lines in a Scottish accent instead.

  • I'd rather see traditional animation on a Disney Movie anyways

  • Ya as far as I'm concerned, Aardman can do no wrong. I find it astounding that they aren't a studio by themselves yet. However, I'm also very glad they are making a comeback :)

  • I hope that one day just like princess and the frog that dreamworks can have one small comeback too it's hand drawn age

  • Someday, Robin Williams's gonna realize that all these other comedians have worked with Dreamworks and nothing's happened with them. When that day comes he'll get a role to work in one of there films.

  • @MrAndrewsaccount92 I don't think so. After his experince with working with Katzenberg, it's official that he won't let that happen.

  • When he said that it was Chris Farley, he actually put a picture of John Candy up. Both were phenomenal actors, but get them right next time.

  • @jwateska736 John Candy died before Chris Farley in 1994, before Dreamworks was even established.

  • I wished they had let people hear the chris farley voices on the dvd

  • WHAT AN IDIOTIC CRITIC!!! Somebody say something we're the public!!! Dreamworks 2D films are some of my favourite animated features! They're EPIC! Screw the critics! Please go on IMDB and add your rating!!! I did!

  • Spiri and sinbad are my favourites!!! what is she saying???? GOSH!

  • Chicken Run. Love this movie, my family are big time Aardman fans ever since we saw the first 3 Wallace and Gromit shorts.

Shrek. I really wanted to see the broadway version of this, but my mom didn't want to see it because, she doesn't want anything to do with Shrek after the 4th one.

Spirit. I really like that movie and I think the music was good.

Sinbad. I love how they say hand drawn is dead but other countries still do hand drawn. I mean look at Japan's work.

  • What is great about Spirit is he never speaks nither does Rain its like Tom and Jerry awsome but the main charicters in the movie never talk which is some how makes the movie even better.

  • fuck the critics!!! El Dorado is my fav movie and i LOVE Sinbad!!!!

  • Sinbad is a GREAT film, blast those critics... and the reason for the failue was.. termin nator ...3.. >:( i wish it was a success and made it's six sequels.. i hope to help bring 2D back to the big screne

  • SPIRT IS A REALLY GREAT FILM AND SHOULD HAVE ONE BEST ANIMATED FILM!!! 2D aniamtion is NOT dead.. just being pushed behind 3D (which i like but it seems CGI is everywhere now and nothing is equl)

  • Being a horse nut, I loved Spirit from beginning to end. The animation was beautiful, Bryan Adams kicked butt with the music, and matt Damon was spirit! Meticallia is alright but it doesn't fit spirit. It's metal and won't fit western. But Bon Jovi fit the western Young Guns and that's a rock band.

  • Am I the only one who is irked by the animation in the Shrek movies?

They aren't horrible movies (They aren't my faves, though) but the animaton is not enjoyable to look at.

  • All other spoof fairy tale films have been heavliy panned and /or bombed at the box office

  • treasure planet was a fail?! :S

  • john candy for chris farley? reputability fail.

  • Personally, I thought Spirit was an awesome film. I loved the music.

It was set in the wide, open spaces, and was meant to sound that way!

  • The studio that who made Chicken Run and the other clay animation have nothing on Pixar, critically or financially.

  • Disney characte- I MEAN FAIRYTALE Creatures!

  • @treyhasty19 I'm not trying to be mean to you or anything, but it's not polite to swear.

  • why cant they play metallica in a movie with horses??? Because the Four Horsemen would show up.

  • Igor is based on a fairytale?

  • disney charact- uh I mean fairy tale creatures....XD

  • That's John Candy you ass.

  • lol. All the movies Shrek inspired with the theme of fairytales sucked horribly at the box office and with critics!

  • I think i saw a chickan? lol

That's weird why her name is Tweety?

  • I think i saw a chickan? lol

  • Only the horse of the Apocolypse are fit for Metallica. Also DreamWorks tends to T-bag every disney film now that is not made by Pixar. I mean if movie could violate another, Disney gets violated alot by DreamWorks unless it's Pixar...then the reverse happens. xp

  • chicken run ! babs: "i dont want to be a pie ... i dont like gravy" D= lmfao!

  • @NathanJesseMcCarthy God DAMN IT!!! STOP WITH THE SH*TTY SPEWBURG SHOW JOKE REFRENCES!!!!

  • Princess and the Frog- DEAD MY ASS!! Love that line! XDD

  • What about The Simpsons movie? They were 2d animated.

  • You probably didn't listen to the Spirit soundtrack if you're saying it's a bunch of corny songs associated with love and shit. Sure they have love songs, but it's not as babyish as you portrayed it. You could have at least included the fact that Bryan Adams and Hans Zimmer worked together to create the songs that worked as Spirit's voice in the movie, since he didn't talk.

But, overall, I love the reviews so far! Great work!

  • I think hand drawn animation is much more human that CGI animation! Personaliy I think the reason why there hand drawn movies made less money is because the stories wasn't good enough and back then CGI was still kinda new and haddn't lost it's charm. Which I think it very soon did.

  • Haha, no offence but I think you need to learn how to pronounce the names of the charaters and actors better...It's pronounced Eris not Aeries lol

not being offensive.. just letting you know =)

I think you're a good narrator...or talking person. Very clear and you're voice is not monotone...thank God haha :)

  • I forgot, if you count Aardman, you can also include Chicken Run and every Wallace and Grommit movie. (I can't really say Flushed Away because I never saw it because when it came out, I wasn't impressed, and I had (and still have) no intention of seeing it.)

  • 8:17 It's "Eris," not "Aires"

  • 6:33 "Tragitital Animation"

Didn't Dreamworks use that term when they did "The Prince of Egypt"?

  • Wha? Metallica as the soundtrack for "Spirit"? I think this guy was missing the point that the American West is about, well, the wide open spaces and the majesty of the environment. Btw, there is rock music in the soundtrack and also pop music that's supposed to show Spirit's emotions when he gets caught, falls in love, etc.

  • BUY ME I'M CUTE!!! That should be on a t-shirt!

  • @BlockishMark86 Thank goodness they didn't do that with Boo from Monsters Inc. or Mushu from Mulan?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, part 2 !!

    - you are so AWSM

  • Just wondering, I know your busy with Dreamworks, but have you thought of doing an Animation Lookback on Pixar? That would be awesome because Pixar's my favorite animation studio, Dreamworks is a very close second. Very good job. Can't wait for the new parts.

  • I can understand why Dsney would reject the Prince of Egypt, but Sinbad? I don't see anything wrong with Disney making a film of that. And I'm surprised that it bombed if it made more than its budget!

  • @KikiMononoke "Sinbad" tanked in North America with $26 million during a competitive summer of 2003 (it opened the same week as "Terminator 3"), it did better worldwide with $56 million, the total gross from both markets was $80 million.

Another surprising fact about "Sinbad"'s worldwide total is that it's four million more than "Road to El Dorado"'s worldwide total.

  • What surprised me the most from watching Spirit was that the songs were written and sung by Bryan Adams. I wanted "Here I Am" to be nominated for Best Orginal Song at the Oscars. It only got nominted for Best Animated Feature and lost to Spirited Away.

  • Great job man! I think you and ThatFellowCoat have just inspired me to start my own series like this.

  • Metallica for the win!

  • Chicken Run is my all time favorite Dreamworks movie! It was hilarious & wonderful! Long live Aardman!!

I also LOVE Shrek! It was hilarious & a real milestone in animated movies!

    Great job!

  • Shrek is overrated. the casting and the direction could have been better, the story is a tadd thin and even if the animation was great at the time, today it is just boring to look at. Monsters, inc should won that year.

Sinbad actuly got god rewievs from At the Movies.

Ps. I love your projekts and I hope you can do Animation Lookback: Pixar.

  • lol metallica

    horses on death metal

  • I thought "Sinbad" was a fun, visually pleasing entry into the Dreamworks canon.

I can blame the disaster of the film on it's marketing campaign. It felt Dreamworks was trying to get rid of 2D as fast as they can to make way for films like "Shark Tale" and "Monsters vs Aliens".

My advice for later lookbacks (or the eventual parts), you should involve your own personal opinions on the movies rather than only the general public.

  • 3:15 Isn't that an image of John Candy? Also, a four year long production is pretty typical for an animated film.

    Great job so far.

  • @ThatFellowCoat Ya, I know, maybe if it's not too late, I'll re-edit that little part of the video & replace John's head for Chirs Farley's

  • @ElectricDragon505 tresure planet was disney

  • That's not Chris Farley, that's John Candy.

  • Shrek is overrated.

  • @Hewylewis I though the first two were great. However the third film was just crap. The fourth film looks alirght. I can't say that it will be better than the rest, but probably better than the 3rd film.

  • @Hewylewis

    I agree.

  • Hmmm, even though Chicken Run didn't won an Oscar, it made an oscar categorie named "Best Animated Feature".

Don't know about you, but hey, thats better than an Oscar...Kinda. lol
