I keep coming back to this one. When the guy drops his paper at the end and has his "oh, shit," moment... I've had that feeling. If you're married to someone you don't love, it'll come to you , too.
Nancy is the queen of class...as a 12 year old boy, I loved her--fell asleep listening to she and Cannonball, one of the great all time albums. I LOVE HER,
@LarryStaples Yeah, I got that one. I LOVE it. Too bad this one wasn't on there. I heard this when I was 12 yrs old and loved her since!! Shes AWESOME
as much as i've listened to this superb song, i never in a million years would have thought of the husband turning out to be gay; i've always thought about this song as a wife stumbling onto the fact that her husband was creepin' w/another woman but the gay twist in this video puts this song on a whole new level.
I think I was 9 when I discovered Nancy Wilson listening to the oldies station in my Mee Maw's kitchen ... then when I was 14 and sang for a local producer to do back-up on a rap song he said he couldn't use me and had no idea what to do with me since I was a little white girl that sang jazz, LOL! I have never been normal! Thanks Nancy for your gift and your influence :-)
I have listen to this song for years I even have the CD but never seen this video until tonight. What an eye opener. All this time I thought it was another woman!
I'll Be Damm!!!..lol lol I never new this song was about this type of situation, Ive known this song since I was a little girl, What a Gift to have U-Tube to experience such wonderful History and Understanding of this Beautiful Era!! Having said that,...Brillant!!!! Now it really has more meaning, for the good.....smiles...I Adore Nancy Wilson!!!!!!!!
@zZ22z2 Let's be clear. This song was never written about "this type of situation." It's been "adapted to speak directly to the heart and experience of the listener."
The way the lyrics and notes pass through Nancy Wilson's lips like curling, drifting smoke is just genius. I will always prefer her to Ella Fitzgerald.
Dear GOD are you an ENGLISH major? Shit!!!!!!!! Yappppp.... Yapppp..... Yapppp...
Take it for what it is... gooooood ole' fashioned singing! She has heart and "soul", maybe life experience! This song is about a woman that yes... happens to be a 1950's-60's housewife that finds her days idle and boring. So, she goes shopping and wants a bite to eat at a "french cafe' and bar" then witnesses her husband and his Mistress having an affair. Then, to have the balls to come home like..........
@undapar1 That's what I got too....There is a movie, "Far from heaven" that stars Dennis Quaid and Julienne Moore, that is very much this video...Was wondering if this is where they got the idea for the video...Very interesting movie...If you never seen it before, rent it...
This is the first time I've listened to this great song since becoming separated from my husband of 17 years. While I still adore the lyrics and, of course, Nancy, after now having lived through a similar betrayal of trust and fidelity...well, let's just say the song takes on a biting resonance to which I wish I didn't relate to so strongly.
I'm definately listening to this little gem on my way to the divorce lawyer too.
love this song -- makes me sad though, that people pretend to be something to you that they are not -- or more succinctly -- they pretend you are something to them, that you are not . Nancy Reigns!!!!
This is wonderfully done, thanks for bringing this song to my ears for the first time as well as your choreography/video production. For my gentle contribution to your interaction below with manila, I would suggest the possibility that his/her reversal of opinion is a testament to the transformative power of art within the hands of the observer. Don't suffer to answer their slings or arrows, just let them mull it over. Your job was only to make the beautiful video, and then to keep dreaming. xo
When I first viewed this video a month ago, I did not like it. I realize now it was because I didn't like seeing two men in an intimate embrace. However, I am very much an advocate for gay rights--quite a liberal. I did think, after viewing it several times that PattiwhackPics did a good job of bringing the Nancy Wilson song to life. I liked the performance of the characters and especially the choreography. Will future productions along this theme make money for their creators?
Yes there were homosexuals in the 60's. But for some reason they just do not fit in here--from an artistic point of view. This song belongs to young women from an different era. Half of the world's current population had not even been born yet and may not understand. But here it is: In listening to this dark, haunting tale in 1962, we women pictured the husband with another WOMAN--not a man!. Sorry we were so backward.
There were plenty of housewives in the 60's who went through exactly this -- who shared this "frame of reference." The lyrics don't mention the sex of the lover -- just "two people at the bar who were so in love" and that the narrator had never "been so shocked before."
I was only responding to your initial statistical claim that there was no frame of reference for homosexuality for women in the 60's -- if you would like to have a conversation about artistic expression -- speaking as the artist who created this video, I am more than happy to have a debate as to what belongs and does not belong in my work.
...I suppose the wonderful thing about a song like this is that it speaks directly to the heart and experience of the listener -- and what each person's experience of it is, is just that, personal....
You suggest that whatever personal thoughts this "haunting tale" conjures for anyone else is invalid, or, as you said, just doesn't "fit." I saw Nancy Wilson in concert last year -- I assure you, the Queen is Timeless -- she belongs to no one, save the ages. It is a testament to the power of the song that it moves you so deeply and personally -- I do not begrudge you that. So please don't begrudge my experience of it.
Mariah Carey, Withney Houston, Beyonce, and any other female artist with just one ounce of talent is well-familiar with 'Fancy Miss Nancy" as well they should be--because they couldn't carry her 'jock strap'', on their best day, and she doesn't even need one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just stumbled onto this video while i was looking for nancy wilson singing it live. the song is heart breaking to begin with...but this video brought it to the next level...devastating. i love it.
Beautiful! Great lighting, art direction, and camera moves... the woman gave a really wonderful, nuanced "silent film" performance and the dancing was also subtle and beautiful. Impressive!
Nancy's version of this song is the best I have ever heard. She is an amazing talent and her interpretation takes the listener through her experiencing infedelity. Great job Nancy! This video is a modern day spin on the traditional man/women scenario. This happens as well as women cheating with other women. It still doesnt diminish the hurt the other partner feels being cheated on. Kudos to Nancy for singing this topic with style and class and not having to bust the windows out his car. ;-)
Even flashing beaver got no response from these two...... The decided to travess the Hershy highway of love, and I bet they all ready had there SHIT PACKED.
this is the very first song and first time i ever heard nancy wilson sing and she blew me away because beside her wonderful voice and this great song she was the first singer i ever heard articulate so clearly.
What a wonderful modern interpretation of this timeless song by Nancy Wilson. The lyrics are indeed gender neutral- I never envisioned this. Wonderful!!! What can you do with "The Masquerade is over"

Finally, I can quit grieving over getting rid of my old LP's. I missed listening to Nancy Wilson, especially this selection. Thank you, so much, for sharing.
Outstanding. What an interesting interpretation of this amazing song. Nancy Wilson's voice is like none other. Excellent work on the video production. Thank you for sharing your work. Please keep it up!
Oh my God! This was unbelievably fabulous. The choreography, the incredible Nancy Wilson (who happens to be my neighbor). Thank you, it was wondderful!
Jazz vocalist are different from the rest and this lady was one of the all time best. She was the last of a breed of singers that leaned on phrasing and nuance. Notice there are no vocal harmonies or call and response instead you get excellent tone and diction. She's like another instrument. If you're not into this lady you don't know what you're missing.
This song is amazing!!!! I heard it about 7 years ago in the car on my way to get pizza. Had to pull over at the end when she says "I Saw You...." She did that right there. One of my favorite tunes. Period. Great job, Miss Wilson.
It's a pity that so many great American standards are credited to their PERFORMERS rather than their CREATORS. This classic was created by Murray Grand and Elisse Boyd for that ground-breaking, star-making revue: NEW FACES OF 1952. Thanks for posting this
whenever i hear this song i always imagine a small movie like this, although i must admit, the two male lovers adds a twist that is slightly unexpected, just like the last line of the song.
Wow, a new twist on one of my favorite classics. I have always enjoyed just listening to this song and envisioned what type of video would go alongside it. This is not what I expected; it was better. Well done! My favorite part is about 2:51-2:53 on the passing through part of the song, but overall there is a nice flow to the video.
I know No One Sings This Song Like Nancy Wilson. But For All Of You That Like It Please, Listen To CHANTE MOORE'S Version Of It. I Guarantee You Will "LOVE" It!!!!! It's On Her New CD Love The Woman
It's so nice to see something like this, in contrast to the political scene, the economy. Thank you. We all need to find that small, hidden-away, place, where life is magical.
I should hate this song — my first ex-wife caught me in a smoky, dark restaurant just like the one Nancy sings about — but I love this video. She didn't wait until i got home to bust me, though.
I just can't say enough... what a brilliant song, what an amazing singer and performance, and the video is the best I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning.
WOW. That was unexpected. This is was quite good. Beuatiful choreography. Of course, I've always imagined that someone singing this song so cooly, probably poisoned her husband's drink. I could just imagine him slumping over on the sofa as she sang the last three words, "I saw you."
Magnificent - wow, the song is great all by itself with Nancy Wilson singing, but the video with the great choreography and oerfect timing to the music just blew me away. The dancers/actors were superb and the story line was excellent, Pattiewhackpics, thank you for sharing. Who actually made the video?
i have been listening to this song since i was born and this was GREAT!!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!the best on you tube hands down and i never comment on nothing trust me!! bravo!!!!!!!!!
Very clever film, the timing is spot on and the art direction brilliant so that the sets of the past and present merge - the gay twist was absoultely hilarious - a "most attractive French cafe and bar" eh? Was it called "Le Garcon" by any chance?!
I loved this song years ago when I first heard it - and then saw this short film when it was part of 2005 Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco. Where DID you find a copy of it?
This is most marvelous, interesting song in the world to me! I love you tube! Lord knows this is so hard to find! Absoulutely awesome! Nancy sound like a hummingbird! It's so mysterious until the end when it all falls down! (I hear ya Kanye!) Superb!
I love this! I think Abe Sylvia is really talented...

I think your the only one who has this version of Nancy's song on Youtube. Great video too by the way. The twist of the story was very clever too.

Very clever film, the timing is spot on and the art direction brilliant so that the sets of the past and present merge - the gay twist was absoultely hilarious - a "most attractive French cafe and bar" eh? Was it called "Le Garcon" by any chance?!
