Its called Tiger or Flame-grained maple. Beautiful stuff. Good fiddle backs are made with the same material. Carlos Santana's entire guitar is constructed of the stuff. My friend has one - about $15,000! Man, I'd be afraid to pick the thing up, let alone plat it a a gig full of rowdy drunks!
