  • Top 5 all time greatests!

  • total eerie, thanks for a rare gorgeous footage, adagio is totally right there, kuddos from France :) him and pernell whitaker had body movements and footwork like very few :)

  • Mr. Pep was a pioneer of the bob and weave, bowing, and lungeing in for the counter. made his stature a plus instead of a minus and double tough as all the old cats were. one of the first to really bring a scientific approach to footwork and head movement. would drop his chin below his opponents waistline so even the uppercut was nullified then pop up and rip a cross or hook and dissapear again. never quite got his dues in the mainstream i feel, but every true fan knows him, R.I.P. Champ!

  • Are you telling me even in the 1940s Italian Americans couldn't avoid awful techno music?

  • willie pep slickest white boxer

  • Pep is the greatest white fighter of all time.

  • This guy was very slick especially for the era he was fighting in. A defensive pioneer.

  • Probably the best defensive boxer the world has ever known.....

  • easily the greatest featherweight boxer of all time

  • 229-11-1!! They don't make em like that anymore!

  • Second best after hamed.

  • @boxinggreatness Behave.

  • @simondgrass what does that mean?

  • Best Featherweight of all time

  • dude are you joking look at wiilie peps defence and quicckness of that ! 4:09 his the one in in white shorts

  • shit, that's a better way to do that medicine ball workout. fuck standing up, lie down and take the whole weight of that sucker! Love watching legends train a little harder than the rest.

  • this music is fuckin awful though

  • I'm getting confused...What color of trunks Pep wears trought the video?

  • @Existentialexplosion Easy, check the guy who's dancing circles around his opponent, bowing, weaving, avoiding every punch and delivering..;That's Willy.

  • dis b granpa box lame as old school

  • Wille Pep was one of the best defensive fighters ever. Sugar Ray Robinson is all around the best ever. He had no weakness. Pep is definitely an all time great, don't take anything away from him, but Ray is in a whole different league.

  • you couldnt catch wil o the wisp with a machine guy back in his prime, fastest feet and ring movement i've ever seen and arguably of all time

  • Saddler was like a human spider. Dreamfights for me would be Sandy Saddler vs Salvador Sanchez, and Willie Pep vs Naseem Hamed.

  • @bobbyd7085 willie and naz is interesting

mine would be bob foster and holyfield

    mugabi vs leonard

    mugabi vs floyd

    prime toney vs hagler

    dave sands vs robinson

  • Now THAT is called boxing! Not what we get to see on the TV. Back then it was all about skill, now it's all about show. Such a shame and such a pitty!

  • his style greatly influenced or revolutionized modern boxing, the constant movement and dedication to elusiveness and improvisations, INCREDIBLE. this is what's best about the electronic age, wow. What a fighter!

  • Amazing pound for pound fighter. one of the greatest. The only fighters I rank over him pound for pound are sugar ray rob, armstrong, ali and joe louis. will always be considered an all time great and very entertaining to watch.

  • Pep turned pro at 17,in 1940, and within two years was 54-0, and world Champ! By 1946 he was 116-1-0, and the loss was very contraversial. 1947 a plane crash broke his back. Even that couldnt stop him! Oct 1948 Pep was 136-1! Willie Pep is clearly one of the top five boxers to ever lace up boxing gloves. lizardman77 could very well be right! "Best ever"!!!!!!!

  • Legendary fighter. In the forties he was in a plane crash that nearly took his life and it was assumed his career was over. This I believe was before the Saddler fights. Some say he wasn't quite the same after (not surprising considering his injuries), so you can judge how good he was before. They say he used to stand on a handkerchief and challenge people to hit him. It's said that although his feet never left the handkerchief, nobody ever got a glove on him. One of the greatest ever.

  • The argentinian fighter Nicolino Locche was another extraordinary defensive boxer. It's difficult to me say who is greater. But i think that Nicolino can avoid a lot of more punches... By the way the tactic of Rope a Dope, locche was the first on used it, then Ali gave a great use.

  • Won a round without throwing a punch.

  • WILLI PEP HAS AMAZING SKILLS!!!

  • I love willy pep the master!!

  • 0:40 they even had respect to each other

today they fight bad and they dont even show respect to each other

  • nice video

  • Combo at 03:00-03:07

    The will o' the wisp.

  • a bit like pacman, except his defence and movment is unreal.they definitley dont make them like that anymore

  • They don't make them like Pep anyone. A good argument could be made that he was the best boxer who ever lived.

  • The video rocks the music sucks. Willie Pep is a legend

  • considerin how slow the video is he has really good hand speed !

  • pure poetry in motion. him and bob fitzsimmons are my 2 fav of all time.

  • is it me, or did willie pep's boxing style have an influence on muhammad ali's?

  • They trained in the same gym.

  • @Ruii123 ali was more influenced sugar ray robinson, prob the only guy he would admit is greater than himself.

  • @Ruii123 are you crazy? the modern fighter that best resembled his style was "Sweet pea" Pernell Whitaker, with the crazy head movement/bob-n-weave and the defense and elusiveness. Ali's style was far from Willie Pep. Ali fought mostly backwards, did barely trade with his opponents on the inside and alway standing on the outside flicking his jab.

  • @Ruii123 I would say the main difference between their defense is Willie Pep would be evasive at short ranges and would sink down low... Ali would use his superior athleticism to evade from a distance and back away from punches! Too me at least their defensive abilities were nothing alike! But i understand the grace and subtle movements they make look quite similar!

  • @Ruii123 it was more so sugar ray robinson, though.

  • @Ruii123 Early Ali resembles Pep's style all the way...If Ali had stuck with it maybe he would have had 100 plus fights too. Sergio Martinez is using Pep's style effectively but man, Pep's speed was blinding....every step balanced and mastered. Pep fought 26 years and only lost 11 matches. In comparison, Holyfield, in about the same time has only had 54 fights and has lost 10. Ali doesn't even compare in longevity. Or Marciano, or Mayweather, or Louis...etc, etc....Pep had 240 bouts!

  • @Ruii123 looks like yer right, thats what i wondered as well.he appears much better than ali actually.foot work is special, and upper body movement is crazy good.he counters well, jabs well, very special special fighter here.he looks like arunner and if he was maybe he was criticized.hes brilliant but if you dont match a guy like this well, the fight might not be good.a fighter could be real good if he moves half as well as this guy

  • No love for Saddler?

  • Love the quadruple jab. Fighters today should take notes.

  • too me the top 3 defensive fighters ever are 1. floyd mayweather jr 2.willie pep and 3. pernell whitaker.

  • great highlights

great fighter, real magician of the ring

  • That was some of the best boxing I have ever seen! truly remarkable. This guy killerz1432 must be kidding. if manny were to fight this guy @ 130 manny would be just a target. people say floyd or manny are fast. this guy has to be 1 of the fastest boxers in history. forget reminds of floyd or manny this guy was as fast as bruce lee and just as good. now you know where floyd got that style from. Pep all time great.

  • @11greenlantern Also keep in mind that at 125 & 130 Manny was just a fast Brawler with a good left hand. It wasn't until Freddy became his trainer and gave him some skill and improved his punching technique and footwork. Freddy also improved his right hand and turned him into the fast 2 handed power puncher that he is now. So the featherweight Manny would not have stood a chance against Willie.

  • best featherweight ever

  • kinda reminds me of the P4P king, Manny Pacquiao. they both have almost similar styles, great head and foot movement. top notch! gayweather you pussy, you ought to be banned from boxing for being a scared MF! pacquiao all the way!!

  • @killerz1432 Your comment is hilarious, Pacquiao and Willie Pep shouldn't be in the same sentence, Pac is not even close.

  • Willie Pep, slickest of all time, the smoothest & best pure boxer Ive ever seen.

Only thing he lacked was power, he had everything else needed & p4p was easily top 5 for me.

Best ever FW as well, no doubt.

If he fought today then Mayweather & Pacquiao would be battling it out for 2nd place, not 1st place because neither were as good as Willie Pep... & I do rate both FM & Pac very highly.

  • hes like a kangaroo

  • Saddler is a cheater, a little version of bernard hopkins, who loves to grab.

  • I love this guy,beautiful fighter,so relaxed,so fluid,so easy...

  • pep had great defense but mayweather is the greatest defensive fighter i have ever seen.

  • What a magnificent fighter!

  • hey marmaduke

one can get dizzy just watching this guy.. incredible speed and elusiveness...

  • italians are such good boxers

  • top 10..........dont forget rocco ( all time )

  • @shotgunshawzy rocco was a slow brawler that didn't beat anyone, nowhere near the p4p top 10.

  • @runtinsweet Yes he can still be considered in the top 10, for his weight (185) he had awsome unbeleivable power & unrivalled stamina, it aint all about flashy skills & technique you know.

  • @runtinsweet His defence was highly under-rated as well.

  • @shotgunshawzy He was always open, came forward and took plenty hits, luckily he had a good chin.

  • @runtinsweet really? does Joe Louis and Ezzard Charles ring a bell?

  • @MrWallyishere LOL, both were near the retirement home, REALLY? By your moronic estimations, McBride must be great, he beat Tyson. Beating a totally shot ATG doesn't make you great and Charles was well past his best also.

  • @runtinsweet right on bro its like saying trevor berbick is great cause he beat a washed up muhammad ali.LOL

  • pactard here. I think Pep beats Pacquiao easily.Wow, what an amazing fighter.

  • i think muhammed ali was a fan of this guy, sugar ray and jj walcott judging by their footwork

  • "He who hits and runs away, lives to fight another day."

    -Willie Pep

  • how come he was never drafted to fight in ww2?

  • @haris000000 hes white not black

  • @cam123cha dont know hows that actually matters my q was why he wasnt drafted to fight in ww2

  • @haris000000 i no ye it duznt matter but to americans espescially in the 40s if you could draft a black or white champion........plus i think hes italian maybe the mafia had him on the ship yards helping out since they ran everything in those days drafting was the luck of the draw i guess

  • Dude was crazy quick.

  • I love how back in the day, boxers had more fights.....its funny how people consider rocky the greatest, when guys like this had 229 wins.......and rocky only had 40 fights.....pep was a beast, that left hand damages his victims........

  • What a Legend!

  • i hate defensive fighters......so boring they are the reason i converted to being an mma fan along with biased narrowminded boxing fans

  • @Tavarith Shut up clown ..

  • and this inteligent statement makes me a clown?....i hate defense

  • @Tavarith You can't even spell INTELLIGENT & if you ''hate defense'' .. then why the f*ck are you looking at a defensive wizard ??? Go watch brawlers clown & don't reply or I'll make you look even more stupid ... just throw in the towel .. like the many with no defense have in the past.

  • ohhhhh im so sorry for missing the extra "L" on intelligent .....my point was that boxers that couterpunch like this such as mayweather tend to bore the hell outa me and that is why i converted to mma where counterpunching is not effective....counterpunching only works in the ring

  • @Tavarith what are you talking about? half the champs and former champs of the ufc are counterpunchers: machida, a. silva, rampage, evans, franklin, liddell, the list goes on.

you can teach any fucking meathead to throw a punch. to avoid one like pep did is a born gift that not anyone can master, which is why willie pep is so greatly respected.

  • @Tavarith "He who hits and runs away, lives to fight another day."

    -Willie Pep

  • and then bores the shit out of the crowd

  • damn this guy was fast!!!! talk about head movement, foot work and hand speed? Then you need to talk about this guy Willie "the Pro" Pep ( yes i gave him a new nickname ). Not only that but he could also duck, dodge n weave punches like nothing! Looks like i found a new inspiration.

  • He had some of the fastest reflexes i've ever seen in the ring. He's so smooth in his style, it's seamless and effortless, yet it completely confuses his opponents and gives him the advantage in almost all the exchanges. 230-11-65 ko's. The man was once 61-0! Amazing boxer, a true legend.

  • @Fict10n sugar ray robinson was once 128 - 1.

    also an amazing boxer

  • @funnyblackmans

he also beat willie pep as an amateur, but himself and his trainer were accused of being pro's and were jailed overnight.

    true story

  • @i0hate0this0place did he!. i never knew that

  • @funnyblackmans I agree with you 100%. Sugar Ray Robinson was the most complete fighter that has ever lived (IMO). He had great defense, footwork, work ethic, power, speed, head movement, he had it all.

Btw, sorry it took me a year to respond =( lol

  • @funnyblackmans chavez 90-0

  • @johnosandra chavez continuously got gift decisions because don king was his promoter. i remember pernell whitaker giving him a boxing lesson. chavez wasn't versatile enough to deal with pure defensive boxers like whitaker -compubox numbers show whitaker outlanding chavez by over 100 punches so don't deny it. it's not about how many opponents you beat but the quality of your opponents. chavez faltered against good opposition.

  • @jummacob he fought in the best ara of any welterweight

type in top 15 chavez wins

he fought the best around he was the best pound4pound at 44fights until 90

46fights as the best pvp fighter in the world

  • if you want to bring up great mexican fighters who are versatile you bring up someone like ricardo lopez or salvador sanchez, or marquez. they are really the besty mexican fighters because they fought everyone and didn't need gift decisions from don king like chavez. chavez is an overrated bum. salvador sanchez/marquez/lopez are three times the fighter he is. it's funny that i'm not even mexican and i know more about mexican boxers than you

  • @jummacob hahaha go jump in a lake you fool

im not mexican im just an expert on boxing

    im australian

your opinion is in direct contrast to the opinion of the top 5 boxing experts in mexico

richard steele didnt work for don king he worked for trump

lol have you even seen many of chavez's fights

chavez is not only the greatest mexican fighter of all time he is the greatest to ever step into a ring in the history of boxing in every aspect

    dont reply

  • @johnosandra JCC was good no doubt, but Sugar Ray Robinson is the best to ever lace em up IMO

  • @johnosandra Salvador Sanchez was a better fighter and the best Mexican fighter ever. Ray Robinson best. Pep best technician. End of story. His son is currently avoiding and ducking Sergio Martinez like the plague.

  • @dirtbagwhitetrash every single thing chavez did was perfect

chavez was tested in as many places as robinson and as robinson he came out on top only he did it for longer

there are no best technicans best this or best that its your personal favourites

dont preach to me biased american opinions just because someone writes it doesnt mean anything

best at this best at that

willie pernell burley johnson moore arguello charles chavez tyson all the best in their perfered PERSONAL technique

  • @dirtbagwhitetrash Julio CC's son is too young to fight Sergio. Also he's too big and cuts too much weight. He cuts like 30 pounds and he's a giant. He barely makes 160 now and will get destroyed by Sergio M at this weight. However, if they fought at 168 it could spell disaster for Martinez.

  • @johnosandra nope

  • @gameboy010203 ?? chavez was one of the greatest of all time

    best boxer/puncher of all time

    most clinical by a mile

  • @gameboy010203 one of the greats but not overly-clinical or the "best" boxer-puncher of all time.

seems like you've only seen a few of his fights.

  • @johnosandra if he retired right there he would be the best undefeated Boxer

  • @johnosandra im glad Marciano and Lopez are the best though

  • @RMphilmacrac back in the old days you couldnt even be the champ if you hadnt lost a fight

both amazing fighters but there are other fighters to retire undefeated

    one guy was 134-0

    records are indicators thats all

  • @johnosandra the old days were amazing, Old Boxers put these new ones to shame. but can you give me an example of an undefeated guy with a record that impressive?

  • @RMphilmacrac a bloke told me because i once thought chavez had the longest undefeated streak in boxing but its not so

i cant remember the guys name but im pretty sure his first name was charles

it was on a charlie burley video if i remember correctly

should still be in the comments

if you love boxing well my channel has the best boxing has to offer

doesnt get any better for any type of boxing fan

  • @johnosandra there was a lightweight i think? who only lost his debut fight then won like the next 108. i think he had some draws but idr.

  • @RMphilmacrac no,not even close.not without diggin around.his record is the best i can recall..by far!

  • he'd win a round throwing 0 punches - great defensive fighter

  • hahahah

  • thats the sweet science at it highest point. great vid

  • did i see sal bartolo in this vid?

  • I was actually a pall bearer at his funeral...

  • I'm surprised they got him in the grave.

  • about 3:20 pure orsam set of jabs

  • WILLIE had the greatest defense in the world.

  • Look at 3:51 his head is too big!!! LOL!

  • Whew! In his prime, you couldn't hit Pep with a truck!

  • 229-11-1, best fighter ever.

  • I really hate to correct you, but his record was actually 230-11-1. But either waym it is still an impressive record.

  • @corytclark Source please. I always see it listed as 229.

  • @lizardman77 Amen ( although i dont believe in jesus ) theres a few who comes close to peps skillls ray rob & sugar.....RIP MARCIANO

  • @lizardman77 lol I laughed

  • @lizardman77 That's including coming back from a plane crash that was supposed to have killed him, then kept him from walking again, then fighting again. In just a few months he was back in the ring. Even after he'd lost a step or two after the crash he was still amazing. Maybe best defensive fighter ever.

  • @lizardman77 232-11-1

  • achillesandroscoe is one of those douche bags that secretly admires willie pep but loves to talk trash on all his videos.

lil dumbass is obsessed floyd mayweather and sweet pea and believes everything the HBO hype team says.

  • Pep once won a round without throwing a punch !

  • Awesome thanx so much for this video

  • This guy looks like Raul Castro

  • lol italians love defence and counter attacks just look at their football teams .... they like to out think opposition.

  • god damn i love being italian

  • well what did u do other than ur dad put his italian sauce in ur moms taco

  • why???

  • its amazing how much better the oldschool was than now, my friends get on me and try to debate me but i just show them tape of the greats. boxing sadly is not what it used to be, im only 26 also.

  • It's just the opposite. Back in those days people appreciated the defensive skills of Willie Pep and Benny Leonard. Now everybody just wants blood.

All the greats had superior defense.

  • he's beyond floyd and sweet pea, not even by a long shot!!!

  • like fucking robots!? get the fuck back in the cellar where you belong.

  • 6:14, wow! are you kidding me

  • cant hit what ya cant see LOL peps the greatest pure boxer there ever was

  • this video gets me psyched up.

  • cheers mate, great HL :)

  • One of the greatest, if not the greatest , defensive fighters of all time.

I know this is not really important, but I was going to ask you this until I just saw it in the video a few seconds ago. But I was going to ask if there was any footage of Pep knocking anybody down or out. Because I have never seen any footage of that.

  • I've been waiting on a decent Pep highlight. Thank you!

  • Excellent footwork, balance and movement makes

Willie one of the all time greats along with

    Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong,

Roberto Duran, Eder Jofre and Jimmy Wilde.

  • @Zelley100

Great list of fighters there, you know your boxing.

  • Willie Pep vs Sugar Ray Robinson, i dont need to see another fight in my life.

5/5 footage ive seen i before, but the SLOWMO, shows the PURE SKILL!

  • I have an exhibition boxing match between Willie Pep and Sugar Ray Robinson.

Unfortunately both were in their mid-40's by then...

I'm uploading another version of the highlight right now.

  • Can't wait!

  • LEGEND.

  • Great job! You have done Willie justice with this video!
