when comparing mongolian tribes of ghengiz with kirats of Nepal many similarites were disclosed like worshipping nature and the custom of the shamans(jhakris), the trishul or trident carried by both mongols and kirat, bow and arrow as the basic weapon, the flag is also similar carried by yalamber and ghengiz khan.
Going through history of Genghis Khan and mangolia I found a tribe called kerait in Mangolia which had last names like khambu. Is there any link between kirant and kerait?? It’s really a matter of discussion...maybe those kirat came to nepal in 15th century n became rai, limbu, sunuwar, yakkha etc.

@yomamafool1, that's easy bro. When the aryan licchavis invaded the Kathmandu valley and overthrew our (Kirat) dynasty in around 330 AD, many Kiratis left the Kathmandu valley and settled across different hilly parts of Nepal. In the eastern part of Nepal, the Kiratis divided into 3 Kirat Kingdoms, i.e (Wallokirat, Majhkirat and Pallokirat). PalloKirat (home of Limbu, Dhimal), Majhkirat (home of Rai, Yakkha) & Pallokirat (home of Sunuwar, Hayu, Jirel, Thami)
thanks for uploading....Great clip....to protect our community we should not forget our culture our society.. our past....better we should write our surname only "kirat " so it sounds like one family....
very detailed research here. Although being nepalese, I had been completely ignorant of my heritage until some time ago. this helps me realise my and my country's identity so thank you. <----- Thakali
@intermedia1000 this is in Kiratdesa. But today it is call Nepal. Nepal is where Lord Buddha was born. It is also where Mt. Everest is located. Now Mt. Everest is abode of Kirat ancestors Paruhang-Sumnima.
aryans invaded Kirats, just like other in Indo-european nations and cultures. Original they (aryans) were known as Daanans. (skanDINavia, sarDINia, maceDONia,...) - runic inscriptions all over the europe.
aryans were also known as "sea people", "sons of gods", best warriors and natural leaders. Greeks, Romans presented them in their sculptures, art as "ideal men". (Achilles, Alexander the Great as his indirect descendant...)
haha, go Kirat. I knew something was up with Pashupati Nath and everybody told me Kirati people used to live in the back around the jungle in Pashupati nath was back. Now I get it, Kirati be like the native Americans and the brahmins and the chettris are the White Europeans.
Does anyone actually 'know" what Shiva looked or looks like?
Shiva-Rudra is one of the oldest gods predating what we now know as temple Hinduism. Many many ethnic groups all over the south Asia region revere Shiva.
My understanding was that Kirats are basically nature-worshipping peoples.
very interesting. and nice video by the way :) yeah im pretty proud myself of my heratige (prob. spelled that wrong XD) if you want you can check out my culture-Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, People of the Sun - there are like 5 parts but you know its if you want to even watch it. so yeah, good video.
So what is the religion of Kirats then? How the kirats ancestors defer to the chinese an mongolian counter parts? Shiva/Rudra the dwellers of Kailash Mountain...He embodied Mongoloid features...
My research indicated that Kubera was Mongoloid God and respected by many chinese, korean and japanese people, therefore that makes Ravana the king of Lanka as to be Mongoloid ruling over Dravidians subject.
dear Devilito999, Kirats did not defer from Chinese. In fact Kirat and Cinas(chinese) were as ONE army to fight the Pandavas and Krishna. Look @ the video 1:17.
Kubera or Kuber is the king of the Yakshas. Yaksha is terminology in Sanskrit. But in Pali it is Yakkha. It is claimed that the ethnonym "Yakkha" as per the conqueror Aryan's Sanskrit grammar had been spelled in the Aryan-Hindu mythologies as "Yaksa-sh" viz Yakshas.
"Ekam Brahm dvitiya naste neh na naste kinchan"(Brahma Sutra)
trans.
"There is only one God not the second not at all not at all not in the least bit."
So when the sacred book teaches the vedic Aryan that their ultimate God is Brahma and told NOT to worship idols.
But after the adoption of Kirat culture as theirs to bring the non-Aryan Kiratas and others under vedic society(Hinduism), the vedic Aryan have been worshiping the idol(Siva/Rudra) too.
ummm how about just loving everyone as one Nepali........if we just divide our self like this we are fucked, its good to be proud of who you and and its great but time change and you got to change with it. Don't forget the past and don't make the same mistakes, respects your self and every one who now live in Nepal, we are all Nepali after all :) LET THEIR BE LOVE
@mwdwmfru India are mix races. Dravidian races are mostly found in the south. The Aryan(people having iranian/pakistanis/afghans looks) lives in northern India. The northern Indian(Aryan) basically hates the south(Dravidian).
And to the northeast of India bordering Nepal are seven states commonly known as the “Seven Sisters”. They are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. These regions are inhabited by the Mongoloid race or Kiratas as mentioned in Veda.
As of Friday 15th Jan 2010, Nepal turned 5070 years according to Kirats calendar (Kirat Yele Sambat). Kirat Yele Sambat commemorated the first Kirat king Yalambar who rule more than 5067 years ago in the Kathmandu valley.
Every year, Kirat New Year (Yele Dong) starts on the day of Nepali maghe sakranti which falls on 15th Jan. During the conference, senior historians Prof. Jagadish Chandra Regmi and Prof. Dineshraj Pant presented a paper regarding the use of Kirat Yele Sambat.
.....wow....so good to see all ....together....Rai & Limbu are same....We are same blood......We wont listen to those stupid people who tries to seperate us....we know our history....we know the truth....and WE ARE PROUD THAT WE ARE ALL KIRATI......JAI YALAMBAR RAJA.......
Not much is known about their territories beyond ancient India except a region known as Airavata mentioned in the far north.
Airavata is mentioned as a region beyond ancient India (Bharata Varsha) at (6,6).
It seems that the first settlement of this race in India is the Kashmir region. River Vitasta (Jhelum) in Kasmira is mentioned as the abode of Naga Takshaka.
Places like Anantnag also is found in Kashmir. Ananta was the foremost among all the Nagas.
Thanks sir, you've confirmed my doubt. I had suspected Nagas as our ancestor before they moved to SEA and yes, our ancestors were Saiva worshiper before converted to Buddhism. There are also legend about Nagas which are half human and half snake and also snake that can turn to human in our folk stories. Actually many people had witnessed it.
I would like to know, who are the Nagas? Are they related to the Austroasian? Are they too living among the Kiratas? And did they posses any country in ancient Mahabharata time? Thank you...
The Nagas are a group of tribal people inhabiting the Indian state of Nagaland, parts of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh all east of Nepal. Nagas also inhabit the northwestern hill tracks of Myanmar such as the Sagaing Division.
Yes Nagas are related to Austroasian.
Austroasian people are recorded as Nagas, while Tibeto-Burmese are recorded as Kiratas. Tibeto-Burmese skin is yellowish while Austroasian skin is tan. In all both Naga and Kirata belongs to Mongoloid race.
Dilip ji, Dhami jakri chalan(Specific-BIJUWA) is still in practice in eastern Hill Nepal, Do you find any relation between thse practice and and kiraties. Besides this from where the demarcation of Limbu , Rai and other cast started? Thanks for video
dear upeanbhupen, hope this will answer your question.
G.P Singh in his work qouted "Even after all these centuries of bringing people into the fold of Vedic Hinduism, and creating several ethnic division through caste system, the Kiratas still exist today and some Kirati group has manage to keep their belief and culture intact though they have lost many original practices due to the Sanskritization."
Lord Krishna fearing that the fearsome warrior would join the Kauravas, decapitated his head with such force that it flew past the Himalayas to Kathmandu and rested at the place where the Akash Bhairab temple now stands. The temple, a three storey structure now stands in the busy square of Indra Chowk.
This is all mentioned in the book
"In The Kingdom Of The Gods" 1999
by Desmond Doig
and in the articles "A victim of the Mahabharata" of NepaliTimes,
Lol. I'm half Chinese, though my Dad's kinda more like Aryan. So yea, du think I'm allowed 2 celebrate too? Lol. What's it abt anyway? Like tha main meanin'. Cuz I guess my Dad's mixed anyway.
But I must say we (chinese, Kiratis) today are very different from what our ancient people looked like.
My conjecture is that they originally resemble the terracotta warriors. Because my genes are known in China as the Qin gene. And I look like one of those terracotta too. unlike my family members. It seems that my appearance are thrown back traits.
Rg veda clearly mentions 3 gene pools on earth, Aryan, blacks and Yellow. All other people of the world are its derivatives. Vedas predates earliest known refined written language on earth which was Sankrit. Infact, Veda's were transferred orally for 100's of generations before it was compiled by Ved Vyasa. So mention of Kirati people does not prove anything nor does it mean that Indians did not knew about chinese.
you need to study geography more, ur saying kirat are tibeto mongloid race and then how come chinese come here, cause , and there is nothing similar between gurung cultural and nagas cultural at all.
dear jackidol1, what i am saying is that Chinese and Kiratas have intermingled since the early times.
In the Mahabharata war, it is mentioned Kiratas and Cinas(chinese) were part of the one Akshouhini of troops of Pragjyotisha (Assam) king Bhagadatta who joined the side of the Kauravas(5,19) @ 1:17
nice video..seems to b tat us bhanda uk ma nepali community besi cha" well jata sukai bhaye pani kirat le sakela lai pachi parna diyeko choin..tyesai karan malai kirat hunu ma garvha lagcha..can't wait for the next sakela..thanks for the video
In an attempt to induce the caste system among the Kirat group, in the coronation ceremony of his Majesty, King Birendra, in 1975, a Limbu was nominated as a Shudra, and a Shrestha as a Vaishya.
Subsequently, some priests initiated four boys from Rais into Chettri status in total contradiction with the earlier act of treating Limbu. These are some typical examples of expedient behavior by the ruling class to divide the Kirat group and bringing them into caste system." (Fatalism and Development)
Yes Kirat religion includes shamanism therefore Kirat religion is animistic in nature. Kirat respect the land they live in similar to native Red Indians in America. That's why Kirat have "bumi puja" that is worshiping of land and mother nature. Kirat also worship their ancestors again similar to the native Red Indians.
The new film "Avatar" has the message for the people that one should not forsake one's root for modernization. Your identity would be lost 4ever once the root is destroy.
My Father is from East Nepal is Kirati. Im from the UK and would like to meet more of my people reardless whether they are from the UK orm abroad!! respects to your all brothers and sisters
Govinda Bahadur Tumbahan in his work (Endangered species) wrote " the present district Solukhumbu is the corrupt form of sorakhambu, a Nepali term which means 'sixteen khambus'. It suggests that there are sixteen major groups of the Khambu community, but their identities are still unclear. Khambu is also called Rai, which many think is a title conferred upon them by the Shah kings. It has many sub-communities that speak distinct languages."
Neolithic tools found in the Kathmandu Valley indicated that people of Tibeto-Burman ethnicity have been living in the Himalayan region for at least 9,000 years. This was released by the Department of Archaeology of Nepal, published 2003. More archaeology is being conducted and time will revealed the Kirat civilization in the Kathmandu valley.
The findings of these neolithic tools can be found on "Archaeological Activities in Nepal Since 1893 AD To 2002 AD" by Prakash Darnal
sorry to ask u but i dont know where this place is? is it in napal or india i am really confused which place is this can anyone answer me its such a nice place :)
tomyloveu, this is in Nepal. But during the study on Kiratas, i found out the term "Nepal" is first found in 'Atharva Parishista' (4th Century B.C.) belied to have derive from the term "Nepa"
The term "Kirat Desh"or Kirat Country is found in the earlier documents such as Veda and other ancient Hindu texts as mentioned in the video 0:29
Interestingly i found that find mon khmer ethnic group, also Kirat exist in Himachal Pradesh, in northwest India.
King Yalambar @ 0:20 is mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. According to the epic,
Yalamber heard about the great battle that was fought in the distant plains of Kurukshetra and he too wanted to participate in this battle. So donning a fierce and silver mask of Bhairab, the Lord of Terror, he went with his army. At the battle field he was met by Lord Krishna who asked him whose side he was on. He replied that he would take the side of the losing army.
The presence of non-Sanskrit speaking in the Kathmandu Valley since long before its Lichchhavi takeover around the first century AD is now generally recognized. The Department of Archaeology is currently excavating an ancient Kirati religious site near Kwalakhu in Patan. Existence of several non-Sanskrit place names, administrative, office titles, river names in Lichchhavi inscription is generally cited as proof of developed state of the valley during the Kirat rule.
Nepal's pre-eminent sociologist, Professor Dor Bahadur Bista, asserted that, "of all the proverbial thirty-six caste and ethnic groups of Nepal, the Hindu caste system made the least impact on the Limbu. In part, this reflected not only their geographical distance from the seat of power in the capital city of Kathmandu but also their cultural independence." (Fatalism and Development, 1991)
The Kirat communities usual practice of the disposal of dead is by burial, not by cremation which people have ideas that all Nepalese cremate the death.
The Mundhum states that God had made your body out of the earth and ashes and today your body is mixing with the earth again.
Pork is also used for auspicious such as wedding and holy occasions along with alcohol in Kirat culture 5:12 which is taboos to Hindus and Muslims.
Do people in Mongolia used pork or any animal for holy occasion?
yeah. horse and cow used for war. it means warlords are giving sacrifice to eternal heaven. and sheep for celebrity, wedding, long no see freind, minor sacrifice..etc
Bista wrote that the Kirat descendants include all the Indo-Mongolian people speaking various Tibeto-Burmese dialects as their mother tongue, the principal of which are the Rai, Limbu, Yakkha, Sunuwar, Jirel, Hayu, Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Thami and Chepang in the hills, and the Tharu, Danuwar, Bote Majhi, Dhimal, Meche, Koche in the plains. He also cited that the earliest Newar of Kathmandu are also thought to belong to this group.
Yes it is always interesting to see other cultures! Their belief seems quit close to ours(Mongol) Sun & Moon on red(=blood or fire) flag. Sun & moon on their foreheads 1:50 looks just right for a Mongol. I hope they drink milk!? and eat meat? :)
HotZetiGer the Kirat communities(Rai. Limbu, Sunuwar, Yakkha) in Nepal do not cremate their dead unlike their Hindu counterparts.
The meat and alcohol has always been central to Kirat's culture unlike the Hindu's society. Dhimal, Hayu, Koch, Thami, Tharu, Chepang, and Surel ethnic groups who also consider themselves to be of Kirati descent
have the same practices and norms as the main Kirati group.
1. Is alcohol a integral part of culture in Mongolia ?
The traditional Kirati religion, called the Mundhum apparently predating Hinduism and Buddhism is based on nature and ancestors worship, and also practicing animism and shamanism, see 2:41. The Kirats' lifestyle and their cultural activities are all governed by Mundhum. Mundhum is the folk- literature of the Kirats which has been passed down from time immemorial through verbal tradition.
In fact all the Indo-Mongoloid group in Nepal traditional religion used to be shamanism.
TheMuhulai here's some info. i got while studying about the Kiratas.
Suresh Singh remarked "In about 6th century AD, the Mongols from central Asia, probably from east Mongolia, moved to Nepal, these were pastoralists, Iron using and cavalry men. The Mongols defeated the Kiratas and the Austrics(Dravidians) and assimilated them into their hordes; some Kiratas moved to east Nepal where already other Kiratas were living." (Some Notes On Nepali Castes and Sub-Castes-Jat and Thar)
G.P Singh ~ " The most powerful section of the Kirantis who settled down in the valley of Nepal in ancient times, probably in the pre-Christian era, are identified with the present days Kiratas, i.e Kulung, Thulung and Yellung. The Newaris who are happen to be one of the oldest inhabitants of Kathmandu are also identified with the Kiratas. In support of this identification, it has been noted Newari names of Patan Yellai is a changed form of Yellung Kiratas." (The Kiratas in Ancient India, 1990)
The Hindu Government in Nepal sickening plan to divide Kirat people is described by Dor Bahadur Bista in his work Fatalism and Development.
The Vishnu Purana mentioned that the chatur-varna or four class social system was absent in Kirat Desh or land of Kirat in the East and the Yavanas(Greek) and Kambojas(Iranian), etc. in the West.
Bista wrote "Even after the unification of Nepal the Kirat people still maintain the practice of casteless society."

So do you prefer to be called Gurkhas or Kirats? Or Nepaleese?
grobo11 1 year ago
@grobo11 The term Gurkha came to be used from 18th century which was taken from the word Gorkha, a town west of Nepal.
The term Kirat on the other hand is found in ancient literature written over 5000+ years. The Kirat is synonym to Mongoloid race.
In short all Gurkhas are Nepalese but not all Nepalese are Gurkhas.
Gurkhas are basically from Magar, Gurung, Rai & Limbu, Mongoloid ethnic group.
But everyone in Nepal is Nepalese by nationality. Kiratas on the other hand are Mongoloid race.

"The haplogroup I is almost non-existent outside of Europe, suggesting that it arose in Europe. "

aryans invaded Kirats, just like other in Indo-european nations and cultures.

Devilito999 1 year ago
dear Devilito999, Kirats did not defer from Chinese.
The video of 2:20 is of Yakkha clan.
Hope this help.

These regions are inhabited by the Mongoloid race or Kiratas as mentioned in Veda.

slairo72 2 years ago
dear slairo72, rai & limbu are brothers. they are inseparable. only the name rai & limbu differs, but Kirat are their main identity.
It's because of this that the ruling class of people tried to divide Kirat by bringing them into caste system. This is all described in
"Fatalism and Development" by Dor Bahadur Bista.

Ananta was the foremost among all the Nagas.
diliprai 2 years ago
Thanks sir, you've confirmed my doubt. I had suspected Nagas as our ancestor before they moved to SEA and yes, our ancestors were Saiva worshiper before converted to Buddhism. There are also legend about Nagas which are half human and half snake and also snake that can turn to human in our folk stories. Actually many people had witnessed it.
Kubangpasu 2 years ago
I would like to know, who are the Nagas? Are they related to the Austroasian? Are they too living among the Kiratas? And did they posses any country in ancient Mahabharata time? Thank you...
Kubangpasu 2 years ago
dear Kubangpasu,
The Nagas are a group of tribal people inhabiting the Indian state of Nagaland, parts of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh all east of Nepal.

My conjecture is that they originally resemble the terracotta warriors. Because my genes are known in China as the Qin gene. And I look like one of those terracotta too. unlike my family members. It seems that my appearance are thrown back traits.
Turningplowshare 2 years ago 2
dear Turningplowshare if i am not wrong,
Kirat people and Chinese have intermingled since the early times as mentioned in ancient texts of Mahabharata.
In the Sabhaparvan king Bhagadatta of Pragjyotisa(Assam) is described as surrounded by the Kiratas and the Cinas.
In the Bhismaparvan, "the corps of Bhagadatta, consisting of the Kiratas and the Cinas of yellow color, appeared like a forest of Karnikaras."
The fact that the Indians came to know of the Chinese was through the Kiratas.
TaMaGuRaLi 2 years ago 3
Rg veda clearly mentions 3 gene pools on earth, Aryan, blacks and Yellow. All other people of the world are its derivatives. Vedas predates earliest known refined written language on earth which was Sankrit. Infact, Veda's were transferred orally for 100's of generations before it was compiled by Ved Vyasa. So mention of Kirati people does not prove anything nor does it mean that Indians did not knew about chinese.
ashblackhawk 2 years ago
ashblackhawk this is for regarding the color you mention.
Kiratas are described in Veda as gold-like, i.e, yellow in color.
Kairatam vesam asthaya kancana-druma-sannibham
Taking up a Kirata resemblance, like unto a tree of gold (IV,35,2);
dadarsatha tato jisnuh purusam kancana-prabham
Then the Victorious One(Arjuna) saw a Man(Kirat), shining like gold (IV, 35,17);
This prove that Mongol people were already living in Indian sub-continent when vedic aryan came into contact with them.

you need to study geography more, ur saying kirat are tibeto mongloid race and then how come chinese come here, cause , and there is nothing similar between gurung cultural and nagas cultural at all.
jackidol1 2 years ago
dear jackidol1, what i am saying is that Chinese and Kiratas have intermingled since the early times.
In the Mahabharata war, it is mentioned Kiratas and Cinas(chinese) were part of the one Akshouhini of troops of Pragjyotisha (Assam) king Bhagadatta who joined the side of the Kauravas(5,19) @ 1:17
This is how the Indian came to know the Chinese.

HotZetiGer 2 years ago 3
HotZetiGer the Kirat communities(Rai. Limbu, Sunuwar, Yakkha) in Nepal do not cremate their dead unlike their Hindu counterparts.
The meat and alcohol has always been central to Kirat's culture unlike the Hindu's society. Dhimal, Hayu, Koch, Thami, Tharu, Chepang, and Surel ethnic groups who also consider themselves to be of Kirati descent
have the same practices and norms as the main Kirati group.
1. Is alcohol a integral part of culture in Mongolia ?
2. Do people in Mongolia bury the dead?
TaMaGuRaLi 2 years ago
Alcohol play big role in Shamanism not in Buddhism. Yes! In old times Nobles had right and land to bury their dead.
It is Forbitten to burn own kind but it is accepted to burn your enemy by Shamanism.
HotZetiGer 2 years ago 3
The traditional Kirati religion, called the Mundhum apparently predating Hinduism and Buddhism is based on nature and ancestors worship, and also practicing animism and shamanism, see 2:41. The Kirats' lifestyle and their cultural activities are all governed by Mundhum. Mundhum is the folk- literature of the Kirats which has been passed down from time immemorial through verbal tradition.
In fact all the Indo-Mongoloid group in Nepal traditional religion used to be shamanism.
