Silver Palm was originally a 16 section sleeper on the California Zephyr, later re-done as a flat-top coach for the CZ. After the CZ, Auto Train purchased the car and converted it to a diner.
Wow this is great! Ive been on the Silver STar 3 times from Deerfield Beach to New York and all 3 times we bypassed Tampa because of the train being late. I guess that doesn't happen too often now.
Really? I'm surprised since they've never bypassed Tampa when I've boarded there (except when it was pre-scheduled due to track maintenance), but I've been riding less than a year now. Well, I'm glad you got a virtual stop in Tampa through my vid!
Hey, thanks! There are a whole assortment of noises but I'm not sure which of these is the "hissing" you mention. I just attribute them to either the train, the track, the wind, or some combination of the three.
Yes, they do resemble each other with their similar paint schemes and revival-style architecture, though Palatka's is Romanesque and Sebring's Mediterranean.
When I said "mirrors" in reference to Avon Park, though, I meant it literally. They are exact copies, obviously built from the same blueprints, (not uncommon with rail depots). There were three, actually, but the West Lake Wales station is no more. All three were built by Seaboard around the same time. (Palatka's was ACL.)

Did you have electrical outlets in your coach seats?

Yes. Most of the coaches in Amtrak's fleet are outfitted with at-seat electrical outlets.. That is usually the case in the cafe cars as well.

Palatka looks a little similar to Sebring too.
