I think what happens is that the really high end, world famous designer come out with really far out designs that are way "outside of the box" and they get distilled down by other smaller designs that follow suit - inspiration is taken, and the ideas are boiled down into something that is more reasonable for the market - you'll notice that clothing available in EU vs in the USA by the same designer is often very different.
