Great review as always GMD. 4:43 is a perfect example of why these things are completely retarded. Full of crap like that. I do appreciate these reviews because otherwise I'd be really tempted to get junk like this.
@bonetrainmusic I have to agree with you, personally I think on higher gain settings that it sounds like it's in another room or some kind of low pass is over it.
@Smit2k11 it depends if you have already have an amp ! the Boss Gt10 is an amp simulator, ( so you can plug it trought the mixer trought a PA for ex..) the M9 is a modeling effect pedal and got some very good distortion and many effects like chorus, delai etc... boss Gt10 is getting old did you saw the POD HD ? ( sorry for my bad english )
@Smit2k11 the pod HD 500 of course ( 499$ )!! cuz it's dual tone ( both amp chanel ) 8 fx simultanous from the m9 modeler and it's more realistic than the gt 10 :) but in the hd 400 there's many différence you should take a look at this page
Honestly, I would love to have one to use as a delay, tuner, boost, and creativity box. Just because you get this doesn't mean I can't use analog dirtboxes with it.
@Ilovemyfender2 That's what I did in the studio. Big-muff + Screamer + T-Rex Mudhoney and a modded cry-baby and this with a expression pedal trough a tube amp = Endless capabilities :) Played rock/funk/ska with that btw.
thing is, I have never seen anyone using an all-in-one pedal board live on stage. Everyone who knows what they're doing seems to build their own from separate pedals. I'm just about to invest a lot of time and money in a bunch of pedals and I couldn't do it without you GMD. Thanks for absolutely everything..... duuuude you rawkk!!
I've replaced almost my entire pedalboard with this thing. With the exception of my wah. I don't recommend getting rid of the analog wah for two reasons, you have to hit a button before you can engage it while with a regular wah, you just step on it. Plus the sound just isn't the same.
Anyone that says you can't replace analog pedals hasn't tried this. I've replaced almost my entire pedalboard with this thing. With the exception of my wah. I don't recommend getting rid of the analog wah.
For those of you saying the digital effects all sound the same, you just have to know how to tweak them. Digital processors can NEVER take the place of Analog but if you mess with the settings you'll find an amazing amount of great sounds in the M9. I've had it for a bit now and have really turned some serious solos live. As well as some great compressed funk pockets. Peace
Ahhhhh, Line 6... Had a POD pro rack unit. Fantastic paperweight, and the sharp edges were great for opening coconuts and punching holes in the bottom of corned beef hash cans so the meat would slide out. The thing died randomly one day (thank heavens), in spite of the fact that it had been used twice. Having worked for a dealer at the time, I know that's not atypical of their stuff. Thankfully, got it fixed for free, and some guy in a Mercedes bought it. *wipes hands in relief*
oh come on you cant actually demonstrate any gear dude... you ve got the pick of destiny so whatever you play will sound cool. you are cheatin jack....
Kids nowadays like to use these stuff. Mainly its because that its convenient and its usually cheaper than getting tons of ANALOG stompboxes. However, IMO theses digital stuff sounded kinda cold, its not as warm as those stomp boxes. Its more obvious when it comes to drive and distortion pedals
honestly line 6 makes good stuff for recording i never had a issue with them they sound fine.. however my big problem with line 6 is that They do not sound good live or when just jamming.. everything sounds the same! this is why i went with a few stomp boxs rather then just a muilt effects
Could you please demo you left-handed, strung upside down Eastwood Airline gutiar?I'm left handed and I'm thinkin' of buying a righty and stringing it upside down.
Just wanna see how it handles kinda thing.
I know this isn't what you normally do but if you wouldn't mind getting out the black curtains I would certainly appreciate it
and the next time you come to Toronto I'll buy you a coffee.
Awesome vid as usual. I own an M9 myself. I used to hate the digital stuff too, but this machine is something else. A lot of users tend to forget that in live situations things sound very different. Ofcourse most nondigital devices and especially drives and distortions will sound "better" But in a live situation the audience won't noitice if you're using a digital effect or not. Having said that, I prefer to use my amps drive or seperate pedals too. But don't say the M9 is crap, 'cause it ain't
...the only complaint I have ever had about my POD X3 from Line 6 is too many non-musical noise maker effects, while missing some actual useful stuff, like a harmonist or pitch shifter! I was hoping that would be addressed with the v2.0 firmware update, but they just added more junk. Total FAIL on Line 6's part, INMHO.
Can I ask u something Gearmandude-san? Do we have to use it on the effects loop of the amp? Because it looks like you are putting direct into the amp...
@andretoyo It doesn't matter that much wether it is in the loop or in front it's more of a preference thing. I know people that love their effects before the amp but I feel, and the general consensus is, that the effects in the loop is way less muddy and sounds clearer that way. The distortion will sound a ton better in front of the amp though so were you put this thing would probably depend on wether or not you use the drive.
I would never AGAIN purchase a Line 6 product. Every single one I have owned has broken including Pod XT that caught on fire in my house. Great sounds BAD quality
This and the M13 is only useful for delays and crazy stuff. I have YET to hear a good 'in-your-face' tone from this thing. Its always distant like they are in a dungeon. You can't beat a guitar into a cranked amp.
@trevinor3 I'm sorry but the Boss ME25 has some nasty sounding effects ( and I mean nasty in a bad way). This and the M13 have pretty convincing effects, though the distortions could be a bit better. The Modulation and Delays are top notch.
@YogiSizzle: dude I have a pod x3 live which is crap, and the m9 Ive tested. I have a little demo of the me25 that I did when testing its software, and I can assure you that the little box totally blows away the M9. Ive used it in shows and made other guitar plays take a dump when they saw me uitlizing it! No question about it ME26 is a line 6 killer!
@trevinor3 My bad I was getting it confused with the ME50, I haven't played the ME25. The ME50 sounded way to digital even on the non Drive effects to me
Come on! whats the point of a digital multieffects?? do we go through 30 effects when playing live?? how many times do we need to change are settings during a show?? I use 4-5 decent stomp effects!! 4 most of the time into a decent valve amp! I hardly change any settings! my tubescreamer is always set the same and it sounds great :) why would I want 30 crappy digital distortions in its place??
@Fender1976uk because guitarists are becoming more and more effects driven. plus a lot of guitarists have a bunch of stomp boxes. especially those prog rock types. yes most digital effects sound like crap, but there are guitarists out there who would find something like this useful.
@Fender1976uk these may or may not be crappy, depending on your taste. But a lot of people use a lot of different effects in their playing. I never cared much for multieffects, but I've always used different types of effects in my playing. Wah-wahs, Whammy, Delays etc.
@Fender1976uk because not everyone plays blues/rock based music. I don't really have a need for all that stuff either, but I can see how someone would. A lot prog-rock bands, Indie bands, Neo Psychedelic bands use a lot of different effects. Have you ever seen some other touring musicians racks? The Edge and John Frusciante for Instance use a billion Stomp boxes. For somebody in experimental music this could be a useful tool
Does the Line 6 have a JRC4558D? or a RC4558P?? if you people don't know what im talking about! you have no idea what your saying when you say line 6 recreates the classic sounds! because Line 6 sounds like crap! lets be honest!! if you want to sound good, get the real thing! not some unit trying to be something its NOT
I have the Line6 DM4 its good at replicating the Distortions however, u bascially can only get one nice soubd from each of the 16 distortions - 2 of which are Line6 distortions
I reccomend just getting a Boss GT-10 or ME-20/25/50/70, just saves money in the long run and they do everything you could possibly want
I'm SOLD. Excellent review. Many questions answered about ease of use. THANKS.
