Thank you for the wonderful song as performed by the incomparable Nat King Cole.
The lyrics seem to say that the man and woman in the song were friends then their lips met and they became lovers. But Is this not a form of madness? Well, so be it ... for when love is not madness, it is not love.
No one gets more mileage out of the word "beautiful." Like Sinatra, Nat studied every vowel, consonant, and diphthong--it all had to be musical yet sound totally natural and clear.
From the 1961 album Nat King Cole sings George Shearing plays, with the more than competent Ralph Carmichael (second only to Nelson Ridlle). Beautiful vocals and playng by two very talented musicians. It's a pity albuns like these are so rare.
