  • Legend has that Norman Blake played guitar off-camera on this one, keeping the song's structure in tact.

  • I love this, but what happened to Dylan's voice at that LP?

  • @Vesters1 I think he was trying to sing like a crooner, but his voice in this album looks pretty affected. But, u know, if the songs are good, it makes the album great.

  • I remember buying Nashville Skyline when I was 13 for Lay Lady Lay but this duet turned out to be my favorite Dylan song then and forever.

  • Why don't I seem to hear Dylan's voice as in every other song? are we sure this is him?

  • @mersault002 Yes, he changed his vocal style in this album, Nashville Skyline.

  • this is a terrific song. i love it so much. "true love ov mine"

  • What a beautiful song sung by two giants. Bob & Johnny just go together.

  • For some whatever real reason this song should be featured in a future 1969 Mad Men episode

  • Finally after many years of searching I found the love of my life. She was born and raised in the same town as Dylan and she is still a true love of mine.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa<3

  • is it just me or does it seem at around 2:05 mark it seems that they are both going to sing different lines... it sounds as though Dylan got it wrong and mumbled to cover it up??

  • @Vladflame yes, you are right! actually I noticed that in a CD I have from Cash that has this song

  • @Vladflame no one cares enjoy the song

    7. Why do YOU endorse obamanomics

  • @TheBurnside1 YEA, I WAS THERE...IT CAME OUT IN THE SUMMER OF 69...NOTHING LIKE IT..BACK IN THOSE DAYS, DYLAN COULD PUT OUT A SONG THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO STOP AND LISTEN, HE COULD CAPTURE YOU...BUT NO MORE...I SANG THAT SONG MANY TIMES IN THE SUMMER OF 69....AND NOW LOOK.........IT'S JUST NOTHING BUT LAME TROLLS LIKE BERSEE...AND OCCUPYTROLL PROTESTS....PRETTY GOD DAMN PATHETIC..

  • @whothehellgivesadamn I liked your words. But I'm not so sure as you…There will be change. Maybe times they are changing. I believe we can make a better world. Tomorow…

  • @The6568 RIGHT...RON PAUL 2012!!!!

  • @whothehellgivesadamn came out in 63, fuckin idiot.

  • @bruceyboysvideos FAIL: WRONG CUNT...THIS VERSION CAME OUT IN APRIL OF 69,YOU STUPID CUNT...I THINK I BOUGHT IS AROUND MAY OF 69, YOU STUPID CUNT...AT THAT POINT I WAS ALREADY AN EDUCATED MUSICIAN, YOU STUPID CUNT, AND I KNEW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT HOW THE WORLD WORKED...I LIKED THE SONG, BUT UNLIKE SOME OF MY HIPPIE FRIENDS, I HARDLY ACKNOWLEDGE DYLAN AS A SPOKESMAN FOR ANYTHING, HE WAS JUST A VERY TALENTED ARTIST.....YOU STUPID CUNT

  • @whothehellgivesadamn

    What does 'stupid cunt' mean?

You use it so many times in your text.

Is it something like a full period?

  • @marilou1950groningen JUST LOOK IN THE MIRROR FOR AN EXAMPLE OF ONE

  • @whothehellgivesadamn WOW, reading this was the biggest waste of everyone's time. If anyone is stupid it's you for posting this and using that kind kind of language. You really crossed the line with this comment.

  • @defleppardgirl2009 SHUTUP MAGGOT.....NOBODY WANTS YOUR WORTHLESS OPINION

  • @whothehellgivesadamn Hey dumbass, why the hell are you typing in all caps? Your opinion is worthless. Congratulations for making yourself look like an idiot again.

  • @bersee GO TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE LOOOOOSER....YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING, YOU SUCK

  • FUNNY THING ABOUT THE BOB PHENOMENON... WHEN HE WAS HOT IT WAS A VERY SMALL WORLD...THE PUBLIC WASN'T EVEN AWARE OF HIM, HE WAS NOT LIKE A HOUSEHOLD NAME CELEBRITY, HE WAS PRIMARILY KNOWN BY ROCK STARS, THE WHOLE HIPPIE GENERATION, WHICH WAS ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION AND SOME OTHERS...HE BEGAN TO BUILD INTO MAINSTREAM RECOGNITION AS HIS SKILLS BEGAN TO DECLINE...NOW HE'S WELL RECOGNIZED BY THE DUMBED DOWN MASSES LIKE THE TROLLS ON THIS PAGE AND HASN'T WRITTEN ANYTHING IN DECADES

  • legends!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my, aren't there some sourpusses here for this beautiful song by two of the greatest legends of all time. I think it's safe to note who is "burnt out", and it's not Bob, nor was it Johnny. Go try and pick up the pieces of what's left of your sad life boys. Meanwhile, the rest of us will just enjoy this great song and celebrate.

  • @swanproximity PLEASE CLOWN....GET SOME MATERIAL BEFORE YOU START TROLLING WITH YOUR WORTHLESS CRAP..

  • @whothehellgivesadamn Ummm hummm, you made my point. Now once again, let's enjoy the song.

  • @swanproximity OH YEA AND ONE OTHER THING ASSWIPE....DURING ALL THESE DECADES I'VE BEEN A VEGETARIAN/VEGAN, PLUS I PICKED UP ALL KINDS OF EDUCATION FROM BACK IN THE DAY, SUCH AS ADVANCED YOGIC AND MARTIAL ARTS WHILE STUDYING AND USING VARIOUS SCIENCES AND ARTS DISCIPLINES SUCH AS MACRO ECONOMICS, ARCHITECTURE, ETC.. ALL OF THIS HAS KEPT ME FOREVER YOUNG, I CAN IMAGINE WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE....A BURNED OUT SLOB WITH NO CLUE...FOR EXAMPLE ARE YOU VOTING FOR RON PAUL 2012...HE DIDN'T BURN OUT EITHER

  • @whothehellgivesadamn Hey next Bob Dylan, shouldn't you spend more time writing songs than trolling on youtube vids. Perhaps you could use Blood on the Tracks as inspiration

  • @tomegin1 WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN..."HOW DARE"...WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU......YOU'RE NOBODY...THIS SONG CAME OUT IN 1969....I WAS THERE...I TOOK A MOTORCYCLE TRIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY...I HAD LONG HAIR THE WHOLE BIT..SOME TIMES I WOULD SING THIS SONG TO MY SELF DURING LONG DRIVES ON MY BIKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY...FUCK YOU YOU'RE NOBODY...BOB DID HIS THING AND FADED OUT...WE ALL DO AT SOME POINT...BUT YOU NEVER FADED IN...

  • @Williamdzi best bromance ever

  • dylans vocals on this are fuckin sweeeeeet!

  • Amazing track. I used this for my video of Snowdonia, I would welcome comments on whether it was appropriate or not

  • Fantastic !

  • It's odd that their voices don't blend well together at all, but they still sound amazing at the same time.

  • Nashville Skyline is such a fresh innocent album. You can practically feel a breeze on your face when you listen to it.

  • This is Dylan's best vocals.

  • Eine ganz tolle Aufnahme - Johnny Cash

    und Bob Dylan - einfach S U P E R !!!

    Grüße aus München/Bayern/Deutschland.

  • @dagobert2101 Ganz deiner Meinung... VIele Grüße aus dem BAyerischen Wald!

  • 2 legends!! in the past we had ray charles, cash,

today we have lady gaga, justin bieber --´´

today the music sucks man --´´

  • Suze Rotolo said that she hadn't heard Dylan sing like this since 1962 befor he had a throat infection, he was extremely clean here.

  • Did anyone else think it was Lay, lady, lay at first? haha

  • This song inspired Josh Ritter to become a musician. Props, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Two geniuses inspired another genius, heh.

  • anybody go to my youtube channel and answer a question posted on my channel plz im really curious about it

  • Love this. SO much.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • I you love the original take a listen to a alternative version on my channel. Thanks Joppaflats

  • Hello people, I just covered this song. Listen to it on my page if ya want. Have a nice day.

  • this song is so beautiful i never felt so with a song about a distant love i have a distant love and i hope we can meet again one day

  • I never get tired of this song. Also, really helps when you're from the place they're singing about, lol. Not many songs about us up here

  • This is from Dylan`s 1968 album, Nashville Skyline.

  • Beautiful song.

  • who???who would dislike this?

  • I agree this ranks up with my favorite songs of all time.

  • who the hell would dislike this??

  • I prefer Bob's version from freewheelin' but this an incredible song and if you dont like it go fuck yourself with a dolly parton album

  • @TheBurnside1 I agree with you, but not with the Dolly Parton part. lol

  • @HippieGoddess142 oh For sure i do not like dolly parton at all let alone with the truest visionary on planet earth

  • @TheBurnside1 I just would have chosen a Rebecca Black album instead.

  • @TheBurnside1 I respect your preference, but this version is my favorite. love this whole album.

  • @TheBurnside1

    mmm Dolly Parton..

  • I cry, every time.

  • Oh so good.

  • MY FRIND!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great great tune. I had this album a long long long long time ago and lost it. Actually it's the only Bob Dylan song I ever liked. Thanks for posting - from a girl from the north country.

  • I'm a huge Dylan buff and I've never heard this song before. I've listened to Johnny Cash too (who hasen't?) and to me this sounds completely legit. Awesome find, was this recorded before dylan appeared on the Johnny Cash show?

  • @Tewks44,

Dylan and Johnny recorded it for Nashville Skyline. Johnny also wrote a poem about Dylan on the album cover. I think they did a live version on Johnny's show but I could be wrong. I think I saw the tape on YouTube a while ago.

  • JEBES 21 VEK!

  • Awesome lyrics

  • stay cool bob johnny got to 73 you will have many more years of travelling to go brother

  • Love to hear these 2 great legends sing together! Beautiful!

  • 3:32 thts a great way to end a song ;D

  • @obitobi100 I bought a shirt with that picture on it nice and big with "CASH" on the bottom. Best shirt I have ever bought, get nothing but complements on it.

  • Check out "one too many mornings" another great but short song with Bob and John:)

  • I OWNED THIS ALBUM BACK IN 69 AND USED TO PLAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND PLAYED COVERS A FEW TIMES FOR MY OWN AMUSEMENT.....HOW DID YOU UPLOAD THIS TO AVOID DELETION, I SEE YOU HAVE THE WHOLE ITUNES THING...I MIGHT LIKE TO USE THE SONG IN A VIDEO BUT I DON'T WANT IT DELETED...IN MY OPINION DYLAN BURNED OUT BY 75 OR SO....A 12 YEAR RUN OF CREATIVITY AINT BAD THOUGH....ITS JUST THAT HIS LATER SONGS ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THESE....ANYWAY MAYBE I SHOULD GO GOOGLE THE QUESTION....THANKS.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn i have no idea why it hasn't been deleted, it was deleted the first time i uploaded it, the only change i made was adding the disclaimer on the description, as far as the i tunes thing, you tube probably adds that on their own probably to be able to let us use the songs without them being sued, i sure as hell didn't have anything to do with it..

  • @mexikathug THANKS....THE SONG IS QUITE NICE, I REMEMBER WHEN I BOUGHT IT, I HAD SOME HARD CORE DYLAN FRIENDS WHO HAD BLONDE ON BLONDE, HIGHWAY 61, ETC. AND THEY SAID THAT THE ALBUM WASN'T AS GOOD AS THE OLD STUFF, THIS IS BACK IN THE SIXTIES MIND YOU. AT THE TIME I WAS WELL EDUCATED IN MUSIC COMPOSITION, THEORY AND APPRECIATION AND I LIKE THE SWEETNESS OF THE SOUNDS OF THAT ALBUM...BUT ANYWAY, I'M NOW DOING A BUNCH OF RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT, I JUST DON'T WANT ANY HASSLES OVER THE WHOLE THING

  • @mexikathug THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE A LAME JOKE. HE ENDORSED OBAMA YOU IDIOT AND HIS SONGS OF THE LAST FEW DECADES HAVE BEEN NEGATIVE CRAP FOR TROLLS LIKE YOU.....I LIKED THIS SONG, I USED TO PLAY IT AND SING IT FOR MY OWN AMUSEMENT, UNLIKE YOU I KNOW A LOT ABOUT MUSIC AND HOW THE WORLD WORKS....SO GET LOST YOU LAME CLOWN

  • @mexikathug sorry mexi, i was talking to the viviansaid idiot....anyway, yea this song is full blown art....the songs he did later were just not at that level...i don't exactly know what happened to him, he may have just burned out, or got out of touch and out of time as mick jagger used to say....i'm not into celebrity worship...its pretty dumb....the vivianclown is trying to pretend like he knows something and he obviously doesn't know shit...dylan admits to all of this, he's now out of range

  • @whothehellgivesadamn,

I think the presence of Johnny Cash makes it more difficult for Dylan to enforce his copyright interest. If he's solo, he controls everything. When someone else is involved, the other person has an interest and, depending on the contract they made, this limits Dylan's control. That's why a lot of stuff that YouTube plays involves third parties like Harrison, Petty, Clapton, etc.

  • @belliose WOW, THANKS FOR THE INFO...YEA WHEN HE GOT TO THE TRAVELING WILLBURY'S OR WHATEVER, THAT STUFF TO ME AIN'T WORTH LISTENING TO...THIS SONG HE DID SOLO ON YOUTUBE ON SOME PLAY, IN THE MID SIXTIES WHICH ALSO SHOWED UP ON YOUTUBE AND WAS A CLASSIC....I DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, I GUESS HE BURNED OUT, THIS IS ONE OF HIS SIXTIES SONGS, WHICH IS FINE ART...MOST IF NOT ALL OF HIS POST EARLY SEVENTIES SONGS ARE WORTHLESS IN MY OPINION, ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE INFO.

  • Look into dylans more recent stuff, he has won more grammy's & awards in the last ten years than he did in the 60s or 70s. Bruce Springsteen says it best when he announced that Dylans modern stuff is as good if not better than what he did in the 60s, it is going unfairly unappreciated because he is living in his own shadow. If someone young came along & did these songs, we would say "they are the new bob dylan". also a 2001 album being awarded album of the decade. that aint bad or burning out

  • @LachieBell SORRY, BUT BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS A TOTAL JOKE AND A SEVER EMBARRASSMENT TO THE STATE OF NJ THAT HE SINGS ABOUT....AS FAR AS DYLAN GOES, HE APPARENTLY TOOK TO MANY DRUGS, HIS LYRICAL ART HAS TURNED TO CRAP ALONG WITH HIS VOICE...THIS SONG HAD A NICE SWEET SOUND TO IT, THIS IS HIS 69 VERSION AND THE MID SIXTIES VERSION WAS ALSO GOOD...DYLANS SONGS NOW ARE ALL PETTY, NEGATIVE CRAP...HE'S TOTALLY IRRELEVANT AT THIS POINT AND SHOULD HAVE HUNG IT UP IN THE SEVENTIES, WHO CARES ABOUT AWARDS.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn That just different opinions. I saw him live recently and he did hits from the 60s right thru to 09. I loves it. I am not a Bruce fan, But I am a Bob fan and I love all his new stuff, it is a different style and different genre, but equally amazing. Things have changed is a song that doesn't pussyfoot around human nature. as far as awards go, .. don't let the facts get in the way of opinion. (he ied to the media a lot, so its not clear if he did more than pot.)

  • Respond to this video... But this is a beautiful song and I play it on the guitar regurly. What about Dylans Street Legal Album, changing of the guards?..

  • Respond to this video... as the comment above says

  • @whothehellgivesadamn Burnedout ? Never i still love him as much as i did then. I love love love this song and his others. Who the man is, has endless answers. I Thank God i lived in these times. Who gives a dam ? ,Bet your life We do. We have his music, because Bob Dylan gave a dam about us.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn HEY MAN HERE IS A SUGGESTION you can talk in lower case, too.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn

you are very wrong. he has aged like wine.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn its all luck and chance...and also different companies are more strict about their music and stuff.

  • @whothehellgivesadamn You really need to listen to the last couple cd's by Dylan, from Time after Mind on... there was a spell of what we might call 'lower work' but some of his newer stuff is superfine!

  • @MikPonderable No, my point was that he was dialed into what was relevant in the sixties, now he's totally irrelevant, he endorsed obama in 08 for god's sakes..when he endorses Ron Paul 2012...let me know, till then, he's just a burned out celebrity at this point...he was great in the sixties...after about 74...it all turned to crap....12 years of creativity at that level ain't bad...he wrote about this in his song the time's they are a changing...he was great then and now he sucks...that's life

  • @whothehellgivesadamn you said that by about 1975 Dylan was past his best. Does that include Blood on the Tracks?

  • @Django5198 YEA BLOOD ON THE TRACKS WAS A PIECE OF CRAP...I KNEW HE WAS TOAST WHEN I HEARD IT BUT THE MASSES WERE STARTING TO GET HIM SO HIS POPULARITY WAS STILL BUILDING WHILE HIS TALENT WAS VANISHING...THE MASSES ARE ASSES WHAT DO THEY KNOW...LIKE THE ROTTWELLERTROLL

  • @whothehellgivesadamn Ah man I think Blood on the Tracks is a work of genius. One of my favorites of his. Just my opinion though :)

  • @Django5198 RIGHT...YOU HAD TO BE THERE...AT THE TIME I WAS SOME ULTRA SUPER HIPPIE GOD OF MY HIGHSCHOOL...I HAD A MUSICAL EDUCATION...AND COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN THE NEXT DYLAN...I HAD GREAT FRIENDS...THEY ALL LOVED DYLAN, BUT THEY WEREN'T EDUCATED MUSICIANS...MEANING EDUCATED IN ALL KINDS OF THINGS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MUSIC COMPOSITION AND THEORY, ECONOMICS..EASTERN PHILOSOPHY, ETC...THE BASEMENT TAPES WAS HIS LAST PURELY ARTISTIC WORK...BLOOD BLA BLA IS NOT PURE ART IT DRAGS

  • Ah yeah, back in the day! I used to have the Nashville Skyline LP cover hanging on my wall. Such a great duet then & now.

  • Great Song. Always good to hear him represent the North Shore of Lake Superior.

  • I heard Bob Dylan didn't smoke around Johnny Cash, that's why his voice sounds so clean.

  • ya this is bobs version of country style voicings he sang like this on nashville skyline rag

  • I like this song... i like both of these singers.

But i like the version of this when it was just Bob Dylan better

  • lol love the last pic,, that's it Johnny,, don't take shit from no one
