Kurt Dieterle was my uncle and as a youngster took me to rehearsals where I met many of those musicians mentioned.
In 1995 I learned of a series of interviews made from Kurt's home by a biographer of Joe Venuti whose name I have since lost. The man sent me a tape he made of Kurts verbal biography, but I fouled it up and feel devastated. I would appreciate anyone who could find a way for retrieving a copy for my Grandson who has that musical gene, Will Dieterle with the Seattle Philharmonic.
Thanks, Chris...you are really the "go-to" man on these Welk personnel questions! viola did a lot of studion work as well with many top artists. BTW I always enjoy seeing Kurt Dieterle in the section....a long-time veteran of the Whiteman Orch who was there in the days of Bix, Trumbauer, Venuti and Lang, etc.
Kurt Dieterle started in April 1959 when they expanded the sensational string section. He left LW in October of 1961.
I`ve known the former manager of Welk Syndication for several years and she graciously passed all this info onto me and sent me alot of information about the show and the performers before she retired. Any more questions...just ask!

There is a sub for Kesner in the violin section, but who is the guitarist who is subbing for Buddy?

That`s Al Viola. He played guitar for Harry James and a couple other artists.
He was among a few "guest" guitarists on the LW show before Neil LeVang was hired. Buddy was in the Army until 1962.

IRONS!

Actually the song is an old standard from 1918, and was not inspired by the Welk bubbles!
