Its hard to take anybody who buys an iphone seriously. i just bought an iphone yesterday. as a product(industrial) designer i am impressed with the quality of the build, the thoughtfulness of the interface, and the stability of the platform.

however, this is not "the best" phone. there is no such thing. what it gains in interface and style is offset by price and fragility. your needs may differ from mine. i've already found that at home and work i access the internet through its wifi connection for free and faster than ev-do or 3g.

i have owned 4 phones over the past 8 years. each one for an average of 2 years. i have never once replaced the batteries an any of them. granted, batt life sucked at the end of 2 years- but i wasn't even close to spending $50 on a new batt for my motorola when a replacement was 6 months away.  i even had the option to add memory to my v710. but i didn't. even if i had, it would have been what, 2 maybe 4 gigs anyway.

that said- i don't feel "stuck" with anything.

A large part of what you're saying is true in terms of marketing. But! (1) Most dialing occures from your phonebook and (2) The numbers are SO HUGE when dialing, that it only takes a little bit of practice to dial without looking :)

First iPod was only mac compatible. But of course Apple keeps improving stuffs and iPod ended up being the champ. So the same will happen for the iPhone. Steve Jobs said it himself in the keynote that they will be making 3G versions in the future, so people really need to pay attention and not talk from their ass.

It all really depends on what you're looking for in a phone. If it's a multimedia phone, something you can listen to music, watch videos, share your pictures, works great as a phone and keeps you connected via the internet...yes, the iPhone is great for that. If you're looking for a PDA phone for heavy office use such as excel and other applications...no, not the iPhone. Wait till it's released, go to the store and try it out.

Lol, sweet brick. It's great to shoot 640x480 30fps, but do you think the general public would rather have that brick or the style and interface of the iphone?  Just think of the razor; it lacks a lot of technology other phones have and has terrible reception, but it still sold like hotcakes. It is not that innovative. PDAs phones with touch screens have been out there a long time. This one has a bigger screen and no buttons - hardly groundbreaking. PDAs can have 3G, better cameras, WiFi, media players, flash memory, GPS, and whatever else you want to download from the net. The ONE thing 'new' about this iPhone is the tilt sensor. If you buy this, it is because you are a crowd follower, you have more money than sense, and because you are a slave to corporate advertising. Get a life.

It was about the time the itunes music store launched and he was lecturing me about how Apple would never get a significant market share of music sales because of the DRM that only let you play your music on ipods. I wouldn't be supprised to find apple supporting alot more in the comming months then was released in their initial debut. Does seem alittle under featured when it comes to the camera & connection though. I would expect to see a baby version of office as well as 3g or whatever they call the stuff that makes data rates in non 802.11 areas go faster. Guess we just gotta remember we are still a good 5 months from market and apple aint going to be sitting on their hands.

I'm going to stick with my 8525, for the touch screen may not be as cool, but it does most of the things the Iphone can. The biggest differences I can find is mine has a keyboard (thats a plus) and i have you use a stylus, which keeps the screen clean as apposed to oily fingers.
