You all have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
The hook 'em sign was introduced to UT in 1955 by a student named Harley Clark to represent the shape of a Longhorn's head. This pre-dates its use by metal bands and the like as a "rock on" symbol, and Antone Lavey's use of it as a Satanic symbol.
It is also a hand gesture that refers to Texas in general and not just UT. The "Eyes of Texas" and the hook 'em salute (directed at Lady Bird) is entirely appropriate at her funeral.
