you need to get the right key to fit in the keyway. schlage, sc1 or sc4 (most common)

kwikset kw1 or kw10/11 (same key, different heads)

yale Y1 or Y1E

masterlock m1 or m10

you can buy the blanks for anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar a piece, and the different bitting depths are available online (schlage is 9, kwikset is 5(sometimes 6) and the rest vary by manufacturer.)

anyways, do some research online, there are many useful websites out there. good luck, and stay out of trouble!

There is a Glass near the Deadbolt, so it is "supposed to be" more secure to have a Double Cylinder Deadbolt in such instances just in case someone was to just smash the glass & reach in to turn the Thumblatch on a single cylinder deadbolt. Bumping makes the efficacy of that point Moot!

Remember to push the key all the way into the lock, THEN pull it out a notch. Also you should only apply pressure on one finger on the bottom of the key, not too much and not too little.

damn, try using one finger to turn the key. With your 2 fingers ur creating too much force. Try this: take the origional key, use one finger and turn it. Keep doing that until you memorize how much pressure it took to turn the orig. key and use the same force on the bump key. That will probably cut down on the attempts. Itll probably take 2-3 tries rather than 20. Have fun!

Bumping is Very hard on locks, and WILL DAMAGE THE LOCK after repeated bumping, buy some locks specifically to be ruined by bumping. Take the advice of a locksmith....its free but your door lock isnt....even if it is a 15 dollar kwikset. Plus your parents are going to be plenty pissed when you destroy all the locks on their house!
