  • Mega Man 2- Part 4: CASTLE CRASHER. I love castle crashers :D

  • It's fun! And, I thought, fairly appropriate for this particular video.

  • @RangerX431 i loved that one

  • Damn that Wily and his eyebrows. That taunt is worse than the dog laughing at you in Duck Hunt.

Regarding the music later, I guess it's just nostalgia-thing or something. Can whistle most of MM1-3 stage themes, but later to the series they've just felt kinda bleh (5 and 6 especially). I just never rly got into the theme in the background, hardly even noticed anything playing.

  • Yuh-huh.

  • If you say so. I much prefer MM9's title screen music; it's got energy.

  • there's a mistake you said ''nothing can top this music'' how about mega man 9 wily 1 or mega man 10 wily 1 but at the the time you recorded this you should say ''mega man 9 already top this music'' or just your opinion

  • Ah, make sure you're quoting me correctly: "It's hard to top this one" is a far cry from "Nothing can top this music."

  • @Geminilaser I found a cool glitch where you jump on the mecha dragon in mid teleport (not with time stopper) and you get teleported to the title screen

  • Whoa. Neat-o.

  • @GeminiLaser

Bubble Lead is also good on Crashman.

  • @LeonardoROFLCOPTER Doesn't it only do 1 damage to him on "difficult" mode? I think the blaster would be more accurate that the bubbles as well

  • @cutman15 When he jumps down you can hit him, but I haven't tried it on difficult.

  • @LeonardoROFLCOPTER Yeah, but won't it be kinda inefficient since you need to shoot to get him to jump in the first place? Meh, I'm not 100% sure, maybe there's a strategy to do it?

  • @cutman15

I dunno, it worked for me

  • Huh. Never tried that strategy, that I can remember...but I always support more extensive usage of Bubble Lead.

  • balls on sticks...

  • Yes.

  • Be perfectly honest, while I love Wily Stage 1(/Okkusenman for you people out there who know it; I confess to being a fan of it, myself), I think I actually prefer the Wily Stage 1 music of Mega Man 1. It's always struck me as dark, foreboding, even conveying a sense of hopelessness. Like Wily scoffs at you/Mega Man for even daring to challenge his power. You're on HIS turf now; you don't have a chance in Hell, and he will put you in your grave. Something like that, anyway, yeah.

  • I also really dig the Wily Stage 1 music from MM1, and completely agree about that sense of desperation it conjures. It's more the sound quality than the tune itself that holds it back on my hierarchy of Wily music; the later games sound a little cleaner.

  • Fair enough, fair enough. I think I can see what you mean. Personally, one thing I also think might be holding it back a little is that it feels kinda short. Okay, granted, it's not like Mega Man games are exactly known for 5~10+ minute tracks that are RPG-esque masterpieces (far as I'm aware, at least?), but I do think that track is a bit short, even for an NES track. I think maybe it could have helped if it were a bit longer. Maybe, just to throw the idea out there anyway.

  • 7:53 Mabe Protoman left it there for Megaman?

  • Could be! I always wanted to know what Proto Man was up to during MM1-2.

  • @GeminiLaser this could be a theory, but I think that Proto Man was made both by Dr. Wily and Dr. Light in Mega Man 3 because in the story for Mega Man 3 Dr. Light and Dr. Wily were creating a peacemaking robot named Gamma, now I can't say that's how Proto Man was exactly made, but that was my theory because he pretended to be bad but in the end, he was helping out Dr. Light the whole time and not Dr. Wily

  • Well, Proto Man was the prototype, and Mega Man's older brother, plus Gamma is the robot that you end up fighting at the end of MM3...fun theory, though.

  • I do like the Dr. Wily stage 1 music, but I think it's a bit overrated.

  • Perhaps; it's hard to have ANYTHING that popular and not have at least a few people think it's overrated.

  • @GeminiLaser in fact, to me, Mega Man 2 is overrated. It's my least favorite of the NES games. It's not bad, but not as good as people make it out to be.

  • Agreed. Nostalgia, and all that.

  • @animegamingdude I agree with you, I like MM3 MUCH better. I mean, MM2 has no Protoman, it has no slide, it has no Rush, you can only carry 4 e-tanks, the level design isn't as good, your invincibility wears off when you pick up some energy, and I'm probably gonna get some heat for this but the ost isn't as good. I didn't remember Dr. Wily's theme until everyone gushed over it, but I fondly remember Shadow Man's theme, Snake Man's theme, the title theme, and most of all Protoman's theme.

  • @EliroX904 Mega Man 3 is my most favorite Mega Man.

  • @animegamingdude Yay! We have a MM3 fan! I love you (No homo).

  • @EliroX904 I think Mega Man 3 is a much better game than 2. Also, 2 did have some glaring problems with it like with the Wily castle and, not that this is glaring or anything, but it's audio quality wasn't as good as 3.

  • @ThePooman101 I saw the junk layer too.

  • If you are slow use Quick Boomerang! You will quickly beat anything with this weapon!

  • halfway through 4:23 I paused it and I saw... Dr. Wily Stage 1 Junk Layer.

  • Yup! Those are fun to look for.

  • You know what I call the quick fire attack that the dragon does? Rapid Fire.

  • HA HA HA. :)

  • I finally beat MM2 today! Yay! ^^

Anyway, what I was going to say: When I reached the dragon, I already knew that his weakness was the Quick Boomerang. However, once I started shooting them at him, he went down so fast that he wasn't able to shoot his fire even once! And no, I didn't miss seeing his shots due to sprite flicker. Was that a rare event I just witnessed or is that a common thing to happen when you use the Quick Boomerang? I played on normal difficulty, by the way - maybe thats why?

  • That's entirely possible. He usually gets one, maybe two rounds of fireballs off when I'm playing, but if you're in position and stay on him, he goes down quickly. Normal difficulty certainly helps. ;)

  • actually, the quick boomerang can hurt crashman fast. But it only does one bar of damage. and i think it's funny because if you throw a boomerang at a latch on bomb, wouldn't you drag it back to you

  • Actually, there's a great Flash video on Newgrounds of Mega Man vs. Quick Man where something like that happens. Lots of fun.

  • 1:50 HOLY CRAP! look at all the life powerups!

  • They're EVERYWHERE!!!

  • Do you add the commentary after you do the gameplay

  • Yup! It'd be WAY too hard to show off and do half-decent commentary at the same time.

  • @GeminiLaser Heh heh, not much of a multitasker, huh?

  • Oh, I can totally multitask, but keeping up any kind of verbal enthusiasm after screwing up the 50th time and restarting the level would be difficult!

  • im surprised u made the crash man fight fun to watch buster only(normally there boring)

i think its the voice XD

  • Thanks! That's a big reason why I added commentary in the first place! :)

  • I still remember when I first played this game....Crashman's stage was the first I picked. It was way more fun when I didn't know the strategy to beating him.

  • Sometimes I think it'd be neat to turn off my experience and return to the wonder of playing these games for the first time. It's nice to be able to actually beat them, but it was so much fun to discover all of the tricks.

  • I love the mecha dragon! he's so cute/cool!

  • Yeah, it's a good design. :)

  • How come you don't do live commentary?

  • It's difficult enough to practice a stage until it's showofftastic enough, let alone do that while talking, and making the commentary interesting, and not getting sick of talking after I accidentally die for the umpteenth time. The Let's All Play MM7 videos on Jeffro826's channel are the only ones I've done with live commentary.

  • I love the fact that bosses have multiple weaknesses.

It's not like Mega Man later games which has one Path that you go along, even if you start at one point, you're going the same way.

  • I like that there are multiple weaknesses, but I like that the later games made the weaknesses consistent. MM2 and MM3 especially had really messy boss vulnerabilities, so it's almost a rule that you have to beat Magnet Man before taking on Hard Man, while bosses like Flash Man become a joke because simply breathing on them will take them down.

The later games balanced the one-track weaknesses because the Mega Buster allowed you to do enough damage to take ANYBODY down, with a little practice.

  • 7:04 The first time I heard you said that it made me jump out of my seat (the volume was high). I got the same reaction the first time the dragon popped up while I was playing it.

  • Whoops! Sorry about that. And I seem to recall jumping at the dragon the first time I played as well.

  • @EdtheBlueNinjaYoshi4 Ha, I vividly remember my first encounter with the Dragon. I had finally got past that huge ladder gap at 6:27 (after the four or fifth try and about 40 minutes total, lol) and had started jumping the blocks at the end.

Suddenly I slowly started wondering, "Um, why is the room suddenly scrolling?"

Then the Dragon shot up under the block I was standing on and killed me. Scared the shit out of me, lol.

  • you know that every robot master is vulnerable to 4 other robot masters weapons, and the other 4 just bounce off of them

  • That's mostly true; a few bosses are only vulnerable to 3 weapons, and a few actually get healed!

  • Interesting note, the gameboy megaman II game misnames cRashman as cLashman.

  • Indeed! Though it could be argued that MM2 misnamed Clashman as Crashman...

  • @GeminiLaser Damn I think you're actually right. Clashman seems to make much more sense when you take the level design into account! Does it explain his weapon though?

    (Nice playthrough btw.)

  • Shame on me for not answering sooner! ...And thanks. :) I think you might could have a Clash of the Titans kind of thing going on with his weapon...

  • @GeminiLaser

Clash Man was his Japanese name.

  • Right. But Crash sounds so much better to me.

  • my favorite childhood memories were when I completed this game at 5yrs old, then continued on to complete 3, 4, 5 within the next few years. I could never get pass the yellow devil in the original, too hard for my young brain to handle then! =(

  • Hey, he's too hard for old brains, too! I've got a lot of fond Mega Man memories from growing up, as well. :)

  • Sure, Mega Man 2 is a wonderful game, with many improvements over the original, but that doesn't make it "THE BEST" in my opinion. I prefer Mega Man 3 over the rest, but maybe that's just me.

  • I'm curious to know why MM3 is your favorite, and when you first played MM3 compared to the other games. I've got a theory.

  • @GeminiLaser I played Mega Man 2,9,3,4,1, and then 10 in that order, so 3 was my third Mega Man game. It's my favorite because I love all the music in the game, it still offers a significant challenge (up until the castle at least), and It has a more nostalgic grip on me because it makes me happy when I'm in a bad mood. As for what I think of the others...2's annoying at times, 4's too easy, and 9/10 are basically middleground.

    So, what is your "theory?"

  • Eeenteresting. My theory is that the people who like MM3 more than any other game in the series are the ones who played it very early on in their Mega Man career.

I didn't play MM3 until about a decade after my first Mega Man game, by which point I'd played everything else except MM8, MMIV-V for Game Boy, and some of the obscure games and the ones yet to be released. The music in MM3 is definitely great, and I agree about the challenge, but it didn't compare to the experiences I had before.

  • THE GAME STILL KICKS ASS!

  • Did anyone say anything to the contrary?

  • The first time I played this game I almost threw the controller at the screen at the part early in Wilys stage where you need to use platform 1 to get to the ladder.

Great game, one of my favs right next to SMB3

  • Somehow, your second sentence doesn't quite flow logically from the first one... If there's one thing the Mega Man series is good for, it's encouraging players to buy new controllers, if you know what I mean. :)

  • the capsules their to recharge item 2 if you used it

  • True, but there's always other things you might charge as well.

  • No its nothing u said im just asking if u know something about why they call him gay

  • I can speculate 'til the cows come home, but I'm afraid I don't have a straight answer for you.

  • erm why the call crashman gay??

  • Are you talking about the Transcribe Audio captions? 'Cuz I don't remember saying that...

  • One of the things I really liked about Mega Man 2, which just added to it's refined greatness, was the way that each of the special weapons had their own deflected animation. The Mega Buster would ping off at an angle behind Mega Man, but Leaf Shield would flutter down off the screen and Air Shooter would evaporate on the surface. I think its a shame they never carried that on. I just find it odd that a Search Snake would ping off up in the air?!

  • Wow.

You know, in the back of my mind, I realized the weapons in MM2 had their own deflection animation... but I never thought about it much. You're absolutely right! Aw, now I'm disappointed with every other game.

I think some of the special weapons in later games would just be weird to animate while still making it very clear that the weapon didn't work. Exploding Search Snakes might look like they were doing damage...?

  • Yeah I guess so, would probably be more hassle than its worth. But in a way I'm glad that it is just Mega Man 2 that has this little phenomenon, as it makes it more special, as you would say, it's the little things :-)

I do enjoy your commentary, it makes me happy! I wish they had emulated 2 properly on the Collection for Gamecube. It all felt like a bit of a mess on that version. Shame.

  • I'm glad you enjoy!

I don't recall having any issues with MM2 for GameCube. Mega Man 1, 5, 7, and 8 were the only ones that stood out as problematic to any degree. What, specifically, felt like a mess?

  • Well, when I compare the emulation of the games as a whole to Sonic Mega Collection which, in my opinion, was emulated to a much higher quality, Mega Man Collection just seemed like it could have been done with a just bit more finesse. It's MM1 & 2 I think had the most probs for me, mainly for their sound replication. They sounded a bit TOO tinny and...almost with some reverb?! It's hard to explain, but it doesn't beat playing them on the proper NES ;-)

  • I played Sonic 1-3 on the Genesis, and the Sonic Mega Collection feels exactly the same, at least as far as I remember (never actually owned a Genesis). MM1's sound was absolutely off; if I'm not mistaken, all the sound effects were pitched an octave higher than they were supposed to be. The NES is where it's at.

  • Well, it's been a while since I've played MM2 on the GCube, maybe it's not as bad as I thought, but I definitely remember MM1 being quite off, as you said. Which would you say, in order, are your top 5 Mega Men out of the 8-bits? I'd say mine probably go: 2, 4, 9, 5, 3. I reckon.

  • Out of the 8-bits? 4, 1, 5, then some combination of 2, 6, 9, then some combination of 3 and 10. I like what Roger Ebert said about the Indiana Jones movies, how they're so similar and that picking a favorite is like eating sausage and determining which bite was your favorite. It's sorta that way for me with the Mega Man games; I like most of them fairly equally, and the ones that are lower on my list are there because they tasted a little funny.

  • It's a shame that MM5's stage 1 is, out of all the MM NES games, the least interesting Wily Castle entrance. Even MM4's was more interesting.

In MM5, you're just...there, as MM teleported in. Given his experience storming castles, he might have used a secret entrance, or something.

While the Wily castle entrance in MM2 is neat, my favorite has to be MM6's, which not only has you get past the front gates, but go down a vertical shaft, into the bowels of the basement! That one is so epic. B)

  • I think I'd have to agree about MM5. If we're talking just Wily castles (and not fake villains' castles), it's really tough for me to pick a favorite, but MM7 deserves special recognition for letting you walk across the drawbridge!

  • "Where's the big kaboom?!"

I cracked up at that part XD

  • Yay!

  • Is it just me, or on Item 1 does the "1" get reversed when you fire it with Mega Man facing left? Sorry, that might have been confusing.

  • You're absolutely right! Why bother making a new sprite when you can just flip it over? ;)

  • @GeminiLaser i checked, the same thing happens when you fire item 2 to the left. not sure about our little buddy number 3, though...

  • Off the top of my head, I can't remember! I'm going to guess... maybe.

  • "eyebrows. i has them!" lol!

i have the dr. wily tune on my myspace profile, twice! lol! the second tune was an accidental download. i like it anyway, and kool video too!

  • Thanks! :D And you can never have too much Wily music.

  • Nathaniel, i still can't do that item 1 puzzle thing in stage 1 of dr.wilys castle. My item 1 platforms won't go out far enough. Can you explain to me how to it? I keep failing and it frustrates me greatly...

  • Here's what works for me: The moment you enter that screen, while you're still at the bottom of the ladder, fire an Item 1 platform to the left. Quickly hop onto it (if you're a little off-center and standing somewhere on the left side, so much the better).

Then, from a standing position, fire another platform to the left and jump on it; repeat until you're under the next ladder and can jump up to grab it. The key is to go for as much horizontal distance as possible from as low as possible.

  • It's easy to get past bird part in Crashman's stage with use of metal blade.

I used to shoot ones that were right above my head, the rest didn't hurt me.

  • I originally used Leaf Shield, but then I realized Metal Blade saves so much time and energy.

  • Wait; I'm sorry. I was thinking about the first Dr. Wily stage, which also has birds. Strangely, I haven't tried Metal Blade there. Next time!

  • I remember, the first time i fought Crash man i beat him with the buster

  • Impressive!

  • any easrer way to beat crash man is just to go point blank to crashmans face and fire the air shooter(which is way to much over kill if u know what i mean)

  • It's really pathetic how quickly he falls that way.

  • like i said about flashmans stage, what they did makes sense. crashman is kida like a meteor coming toward earth, and thats why i think they included a blue background(which is sky) and they dont include things that blow up(aside from the eggs),and why they have it going vertical, also why they made him so weak to air shooter.

  • Interesting rationale; I never thought of it that way. I guess I'll let Crash Man get away with it this time...

  • Lol i've never experienced rapid firing from the dragon

  • Maybe it's the way I play, but it happens to me every single time!

  • You find 1ups a lot in your mega man videos.

  • That might be true, but I also think not dying helps to keep my extra life total pretty high. :)

  • It is amazing that the first Wily Stage's music is so well known a little over two decades later.

  • It's a phenomenal tune from the most popular game in a huge series, but it still amazes me, too.

  • Limited toolsets pushed creativity higher and higher.

  • Agreed.
