  • Ahh OK thanks.

I had thought that she had replaced Patty Donahue permanently.

  • Holly Beth became the singer for The Waitresses - who had a huge hit with "I Know What Boys Like" but after that she dissapeared. Probably settled down and had 6 kids :)

  • @electrotrancemaker The original singer for the Waitresses was Patty Donahue who recorded " I know what boy like" Holly Beth Vincent only replaced her for a two week period. Patty Donahue died of lung cancer at the age of 40 on December 9, 1996

  • Sounds like Hollys signing "Theres going to be a YOUUTUBBEE" lol Fantastic

  • Do you think Holly has seen this yet ??

  • Great ! Thankx for posting. I think that this is the only live H & TI vid on YouTube !!

  • @electrotrancemaker Yes and its amazing i love this!!

  • Great performance. Liz Phair's 6' 1" is influenced by this song methinks.

  • I love it! : )

  • holly shit this is fucking incredible

  • Dynamic performance! ~ Excellent!

  • i Saw Holly & Teh Italians in a small club in Stroud Gloucestershire, They were great and should have been huge, Great album and 5 singles - you should all track them down.

  • Great stuff ! ... always loved this band ... they had some fantastic and memorable songs ... Holly rocks !

  • Great stuff ! ... always loved this band ... Holly rocks !

  • She's on Facebook hollybethvincent

  • This reminds me a helluva lot of the opening track on the old Akron, Ohio compilation from Stiff Records. What was her name? Not Rachel Sweet--although Sweet did backing vocals on the number in question. I'll get it in a second... Oh yeah! 'When I Was Young' by Jane Aire & The Belvederes!

  • Was a mispelling.

  • OMG I saw her in the early 80s at LaMore's in Brooklyn.

  • I got to see Holly & The Italians open for the Ramones in San Antonio. She absolutely kicked ass. Hard to believe anyone could open for the Ramones and hold their own, but she did. I was totally smitten and would have given a kidney for a kiss from Holly.

  • The song is called "Youth Coop"

  • @apollozero Almost...it's "Youth Coup"...as in revolution/takeover ("there's gonna be a youth coup...cause it's time for something new")

  • They should have been as big as The Pretenders!

  • one of my favorite records from high school

  • Still have this on vinyl such a good song

  • Wow, that was great! I ran out and bought "The Right to be Italian" shortly after reading an awesome review of it in Creem magazine. I still pull it out on occassion. It's one of the reasons I have to keep a turntable at home. It's a crime that this band never got the attention they deserved.

  • Best band ever.

  • Maybe if she hadn't dumped Mark Knopfler!

  • Saw them in Houston opening for The Ramones. One of the best nights of my life!

  • @BigAggie

i saw the San Antonio show, and yes, one of the best nights of my life too. magical and intoxicating...

  • Holly and the Italians were one of the very best rock bands of the 70s/80s that were never given an opportunity to access mass markets. There was no YouTube, you either got a major record label contract or faded into oblivion. A real tragedy, and that goes for the Nuns while I'm at it.

  • couldn't agree more

  • wow!

  • nice stuff...thanks 4post

  • Gotta luv a girl who can belt out a song and not lose her chewing gum.

  • In those years Holly & the Italians for me were one of the most exciting rock acts and Holly Vincent the hottest female rock performer!

  • Electric blue!

  • Saw Holly & The Italians at Bristol Colston Hall (1980) supporting the clash, I Think! They were absolutely amazing!

  • I saw Holly and the Italians at Perkins Palace, Pasadena, California. They were really so much better live!

  • Marry me Holly

  • @prettybionic She is HOT. And a great rock n' roller too.

  • Saw them down the front at London's Dingwells, top gig!

  • nice 70's flamed top strat!

  • Electric Blue!!!! Youth!!!

  • I think it's early summer 1980. I was at a friends house in Chiswick, London at the time and remember their slot on the show

  • What year was this performed? How old would Holly be in this video?

  • @kilts4u2 this show was 12th may 1981 if that helps, haven't a clue about her age.

  • amazing. still have it on vinyl from OVER 25 years ago. found it on cd about five years ago.

  • "Rock against romance" has been a favorite for years. A pity it's difficult to get a copy on CD.

  • Saw Holly at the Nashville Room in West London. One of the best gigs I ever saw. She was magnificent. Went out and bought "Miles Away" and never heard of her again.

  • That's mark knopflers ex girl friend. She is the reason for the dire straits song romeo and juliet. And look, she is playing a schecter strat with andersson wireing. The same as knopfler used at the same time.

  • Guess who has their debut LP in condition as new?

    Brilliant stuff!

  • Wow I saw this lot at the Nashville Rooms in West London supporting Teardrop Explodes. They were REALLY good.

Went to see them again. But next time no show Holly had broken her leg ??

I thought they were going to be really big.

  • Rock Against Romance was always one of my Favorite 80's songs. Good to see they could rip through this song live as well.

  • this is super great, thanks for posting!

  • "There's gonna be a YouTube?"

  • Youth Coup.

  • Ha. It does sound like that.

  • OMG, I cannot possibly express to you how happy I am that you posted this!

I love "Rock Against Romance" & it's hard to find.

    Thank you so much!

  • Rock Against Romance (second song in this vid) is a great tune... I vaguely remember it from back in the day - glad to find it here - thanks for posting!

  • thanks for posting this, I still have my WPLJ button from the Ramones show in Central Park from the summer of '78. Holly and the Italians were the oipening act,and I still remeber being blown away by a women fronting a punk band and playing guitar. Imagine a women actually singing and playing and writing songs. Way ahead of her time, total inspiration to to me as a musician. And totally hot on top of every thing else. Long live Holly and the Italians.

  • yes. Awesome. Siouxsie did it first and still does it. Not much with the guitar but....

  • i love "youth coup"! i'm pretty sure be your own pet stole that guitar riff for "the kelly affair".

  • great, would love to get a copy of her first Lp...anyone?

  • Just played mine tonight. Have had it since then. Great sounding record. Shows the Transvision Vamp version of Tell That Girl to be the complete merde it was.

  • I was happy to find the first lp at a store last week, only 5 bucks too! but I cant give it away, I use it for my dj night

  • I think I got it will let you know.

  • The record company is downright insane for never having put that out on CD...

  • It is out on CD...I got a copy, I think Wounded Bird Records put it out on CD. The first album is one of my all time favs

  • Is she saying, "There's gotta be a You Tube!" hehehe

  • great nostalgia. anyone know where i can get a video of "i want to go home"? "i want to see my name in the hollywood hills" is one of my favorite lines anywhere.

  • Rock Against Romance is after the first song!!! My patience paid off BIG TIME!!! I LOVE YOU HOLLY!!!

  • Wendy James stole from this too

  • i saw her last sunday at the Masque Reunion show at The Echoplex, it was packed with old 70s L.A. punk bands.

  • Yes, and she ruled !

  • GUNS 'N' ROSES ripped HOLLY AND THE ITALIANS off with "SWEET CHILD OF MINE". That song is very similar to ROCK AGAINST ROMANCE ;-)

  • @ciccioweasel Wow, you're right!

  • Great..more Holly videos.. There's gonna be Youth Coop!

  • I love Holly!

  • She has a myspace page

  • There is a Holly Beth Vincent Compilation out with old the old stuff on it. I interviewed Holly for my indie radio station in the mid 1980's. I was a nervous young fan; but she was a good egg, polite hostess and a fun interview. She is a great songwriter. This is fun stuff to see.

  • A friend mentioned that "Rock Against Romance" was about when Holly was a dominatrix in LA. I don't know for sure, but could be. Lines like "Don't come any closer than that which the law allows" and "when I see you to your end".

  • I don't know. I always thought it was about a relationship gone sour.

  • Great! Holly is one of my favorites. She just released a new album, "Super Rocket Star", and she has a MySpace page, hollybethvincent.

  • Brilliant ! Cant stop watching this. Its criminal that these CD' are so hard to find.

  • Im pretty sure it got reissued - with bonus stuff - a little while ago. Google Wounded Bird, they're the label that was supposed to do it.

  • It has since gone out-of-print, however, you might be able to find it used on Amazon or Djangos. On Djangos you can add it to your notify me and you will be notified when one of their stores gets a copy.

  • Thanks for posting the video, 'Rock Against Romance' is a great unknown 80's song along with 'Tell That Girl To Shutup' great stuff!

  • holly beth vincent was just in a class of its own....nobody else made such heartthrobbing melodic but still mysterious music like that at that time......what happened ??? i cant believe that its not one of the biggest selling pop albums ever

  • This band was way way way way way way underrated. I've been digging The Right to be Italian since the early 80's. I've always thought that Holly had the sexiest voice in rock. Now I can see that her looks match her voice. Thanks for posting the clip. I'd love to see more.

  • Thanks for posting this! I seen it first time round on the Old Grey Whistle Test and have been looking for it since. Brilliant!

  • I still got my vinyl copy of 'Right to be Italian'. Her two recent CD releases, 'Demos Federico' (2-CD set of old demos and unreleased material and not a wasted track) and 'Super Rocket Star,' all terrific new songs. Beautiful melodies played with that true rock and roll percussive rhythm guitar and sung with that lusty and strong feminine voice. Thank you, Ms. Vincent, for your new releases. When can we expect more?

  • Comments please, from Holly!?

  • The second song is "Rock Against Romance". Both tunes off 'Right to be Italian'. Great friggin album.

  • Great! Holly rules. Is that a cast on her leg?

  • thanks for the clip!...I know the first song is Youth Coup...anyone know the name of the 2nd one? by the way there is a duet on youtube of Holly Beth Vincent and Joey Ramone singing I got you babe! thanks again

  • I remember the great guitar and bass work as a teen in Texas in the 80s. Always felt they never got enough credit for some reason.

  • I had the album in the 80's and recently got it on cd. They were great, thanks for this clip!! Very underrated band.

  • I still rock "Right to be Italian", wha t a great group.

  • Mark (bass player in the film) thanks for your email I will reply soon.

  • i have a picture disc of the 45! Anyone want to but it....its in great shape!

  • picture sleeve i mean

  • Thanks for the comments. Been watching/listening to this for 25 years and it still sounds as good today as it did back then.

  • Good things come to those who wait (and search frequently). Thanks for this priceless document featuring the self-confessed "Gerald Ford of guitar playing" (see cast). The British papers built Holly up and knocked her down again in the span of a few short months, but we've never forgotten her contributions. Vastly underrated. Thanks again, BikingDirect.
