My love! I admire this a ballerina! Ballet - this story! Interesting story brings deep feelings and impressions. It does not depend on the height of the raised leg. It depends on how deeply the lives in your heart, the hero of your story - and one can see skill ...
she's my favorite ballet dancer ever !!! i love her to death, she changed my life and the world of dance for sure ! the Bolero is such a great piece of art !!!
She was one of the few ballerinas to hold the title Prima ballerina assoluta in line with Galina Ulanova, Margot Fonteyn and the great Anna Pavlova...
But no one could combine in ballet the dancing technic, dramatic skills and perfect style and taste like Maya... watch her hands... her arms... 1986 she was dancing the dieing swan in Japan - she was 61 - she looked like 30!
@Nebullah9 i prefer Osipova but i kno thousands would disagree with me and its just a matter of opinion. i dont even kno if osipova does contemporary but i do like her ballet more...
Osipova is better than Maya? Lol. Do you know, btw, that she wants to look and dance like Maya? She told it. Actually, Maya's level is unattainable for up-to-date our dancers.
@Nebullah9 no i didnt kno she said that. i am NOT by any means saying that Maya is not a good dancer but that i just prefer other dancers than her. am i not entitled to an opinion? what if a fan of maya commented on an osipova video that they thought it was awful? i can accept that
@Nebullah9 maybe in terms of emotion, character, and aura (although Alessandra Ferri could give her a run for her money) she surpasses todays dancers but in terms of overall technique people like Zakharova, Guillem, and Osipova seem to be better, stronger, more controlled, and cleaner
@cooperneely : Try to find with google Maya's version of the Bolero with the Ballet du XXeme siecle (1976), the quality of the video and her technic are much better. It's definitely the best version I've ever seen of Bejar choregraphy. I find the music for this one too fast. Ravel was right, it should last around 17mn to get all its sensuality.
It's a pity that the recent versions the men are all half naked, I find each of them keep a certain personality when they're dressed differently.
I saw her in the 70's - she was not young but was divine. The dying swan, Carmen, Bolero, always way above what you thought ballet could be. Another beauty who defied all the rules.
Hi, @Mickinombu. Majja Michajlovna Pliseckaja ; born November 20, 1925 is a Russian ballet dancer, frequently cited as one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century. Maya danced during the Soviet era at the same time as the great Galina Ulanova, and took over from her as principal of the Bolshoi in 1960. Maya Plisetskaya is a naturalized Spanish citizen.
@Mickinombu: Maya Plisetskaya has been honored on numerous occasions for her skills: First prize, Budapest International Competition, 1949. People's Artist of the RSFSR, 1951. People's Artist of the USSR, 1959. Anna Pavlova Prize, 1962. Lenin Prize, 1964. Hero of Socialist Labour, 1985. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, 1986. Triumph Prize, 2000. Praemium Imperiale (in Hornor of Prince Takamatsu, Japan), 2006. Blessings for you
Thanks for posting!!My biggest event, when, as student in grade 4, at a romanian balley school, I was on the stage-as a little page in act IV-when Maya Danced in Swan lake
this choregraphy made me re-enjoy ravel's bolero I think Béjart understood quite well the meaning of the piece : it xas a challenge, to make an entire piece with a unique melody, with an obstinate bass / rythm and béjart needed to underline this in my mind, and so this choregraphy is a challenge as well and is so difficult to perform. I'm not one of Béjart's fan, but i admit this is a great work

Say what you will but I don't see this as a ballet -classic, modern,or otherwise.
It's a bolero and shold be performed as such. That means Latin rhythn and music. And, why are so many dancers on videoperforming in the dark? The dark is llght enough someone said.
But, we miss so much during an entire
routine by the dancer so how about the light is dark enough. And, so much hopping up and down is NOT dancing.
For me, somewhat boring. Not the dancer but the routine.
Donn's one is a bit "heavier" than Maya's. I like the feeling of "pressure" i got when watching Donn's one... gender factor? Maybe because of the different body line and such? But I absolutely love this one. More feminine interpretation. I cant get my hands on the Duska's one tho. :(
Interpreted at its creation in 1960 by the Serbian dancer, Duska Sifnios, it wasn't until 1979 that Bejart decided to have the central role interpreted by Donn surrounded by women before introducing a third version, this time exclusively masculine.
Bejart did the choreography for Duska Sifnios, a great Serbian balerina. Plisetskaya is beautiful, but, if you could see Duska, you would see something absolutely amazing.
Get you facts straight:) Why everything that claims to be "Russki Super Power" sounds ignorant? First time Maya danced this was in 1975 in Brussels. Originally it was choreographed in 1961 and the best ever performer was Argentinian dancer Jorge Donn, Béjart's muse and lover.
I'm not a ballet watcher. I've read the comments and compared the different "best" dancers doing a few of the well know dances and I'll have to say that this woman is art. Her performances transcend the act itself. It really brings tears to the eyes. Her timing is uncanny. It's not robot like some of the other names I've seen mentioned here. I think the music might have followed her in this case. You aren't taught this.
Maya is my inspiration, to me, she inspires in this dance, the attitude that woman must take, elegance, power, intelligence and clear ideas about their future.
she's my great aunt and im so honored to be related to her, but i've never met her. But my granpa tells me she's living in Brazil or something. Im so proud!
What a horrible combination! The bolero (I hate it)and Plisetskaya (I really don't like her). Still, she looks better here than somewhere else, since she doesn't need to display much grace (she doesn't have any)...
