i hope i grow up to throw as fast as him.. i just turned thirteen and throw 74 and i know you guys wont beilieve me but i do and i play on the outlaws baseball club to check me out.. also i think it helps to be tall cause im 5'9'' 139 pounds
professional teams can hit a 100mph fastballs. especially the NL East, especially the phillies, shit half their lineup are dead red hitters, even their bench like matt stairs. the marlins too, all they do is hit homeruns and score runs.. he's not god, we'll see how he does but regardless his velocity is beyond impressive but im anxious to see what he does in the pros
@GETitYAdig42 he's not god. he's definitely good but hittable as evidenced by his 4.2 IP, 6 ER outing yesterday. no one is untouchable which ESPN has a hard time understanding
@dean101792 haha my bad i must have misread, i definitely agree that he's not god, but you have to admit he is somewhat of a phenom. the guy throws 100 with good command and nasty offspead stuff. everyone is hittable in the big leagues if they make mistakes. but with his stuff, he can get away with more mistakes than someone without it
@GETitYAdig42 no he's definitely a stud, or a stud in the making at least. i just think ESPN needs to chill with him being a first ballot hall of famer or the best pitcher of his generation after like 10 starts if that. he's 5-3 with like a 3.07 ERA for his career lol. but he could very easily prove me wrong and i hope he does, just right now he's still a rookie
He has one of the smoothest delirveries I've ever seen. I hope he does well and has a very good career. He has A LOT of potential to be maybe one of the best of all-time.
barring arm trouble, there is no question this kid is going to come to the major leagues and be an immediate top of the line starter. He's consistently 96-98, hits 100 multiple times a game (including late innings) and has hit 103 several times this year...his slider is 88 mph... he's a fucking freak....yahoo used to have this video of every strikeout in his 23k game and some of them don't even look real. one guy swings when the catcher is throwing it down to third after the strikeout
This kid uses his arm ALOT, not much else to generate his power.
Oh, and this previous commenter maddog, is only repeating what he hears are good mechanics. He obviously doesn't know sh!t. Strasburg has his elbow in line or even slightly above his shoulder, yet again this doesn't doom him automatically as many pitchers do the same.
I don't know guys, his mechanics appear to be pretty solid. At 19 sec. he has a 90-degree bend in his throwing side as his foot lands on the ground which usually means good timing. A bent knee in the front is great for impact. His throwing elbow is at or below his shoulders, and he pulls through well on the follow-through with nice hip rotation. Timing is there. His throwing elbow is never above his shoulders. I see nothing wrong with this mechanics. Mark Prior though? Ugh.
I like how you say "do you know that he will get hurt? Exactly you have no idea?" when most likely the person talking knows the game a hundred times better then you do. I think your the one who has no idea. This kids arm will be gone before he ever makes it big.
I'm pretty sure Mark Prior has some of the "best" mechanics you'll see out of a pitcher, and he can't stay healthy to save his life. .. Mechanics aren't everything
"I'm pretty sure Mark Prior has some of the "best" mechanics you'll see out of a pitcher"
That is one of the most dangerous baseball myths of all-time.
His mechanics are very similar to Mark Prior's mechanics. Prior was once thought to have "proper" mechanics and many scouts, pitching coaches and instructors used his mechanics as a "model" of "perfect mechanics". Now, it's close to the complete opposite, due to what is now known about the science surrounding pitching mechanics.
Pitching is not a science. Pitching is the practice of maximizing one's talents on the mound, by exploring different methods, which are designed to utilize an individuals physiology to glean the most power and accuracy from a pitcher. I've played with and against many pitchers with odd mechanics. (Tim Lincecum being one of them). There is no cookie cutter method to pitching mechanics. You ever watch Vida Blue pitch? He started almost 500 games with some of the wackiest mechanics I've ever seen.
"There is no cookie cutter method to pitching mechanics."
I used to agree, but recent discoveries and research has proved that there's a lot wrong with what was once thought by most coaches, instructors and scouts to be "perfect mechanics".
"You ever watch Vida Blue pitch? He started almost 500 games with some of the wackiest mechanics I've ever seen."
Yes, I have. I haven't studied his mechanics, though. Like Tim Lincecum, he could have had great mechanics inside of his awkward windup, also.
Either with the inverted w or inverted L it wont be long before his shoulder is shit. Unless he changes the arm action, he will have either no career or a severley shortened one.
if im watchin him in the other dugout im tryin to think of a way to get out of the game. haha

Dusty did let him throw way too many pitches, but Prior's poor mechanics is what caused his injuries.

I know what you mean. I used to think the same thing, but the science now exists surrounding how most shoulder and elbow injuries occur.
"I've played with and against many pitchers with odd mechanics. (Tim Lincecum being one of them)."
Same here. The thing is, though, there is a huge difference between a delivery & the mechanics of a delivery.
Tim Lincecum has one of the most awkward deliveries in the history of the game, but his mechanics are close to flawless.

He has an inverted W with his arms during his mechanics. Almost all pitchers who have had this have major arm issues.

it would likely be closer to an inverted L.
