I love Dave Brubeck's improvisational genius. This is my favorite of his many wonderful songs. His phrasing, chord progressions and timing are exquisite.
I personally don't like most pop music nowadays... I just don't like slow music. Swing, classic rock, soft rock, I like a wide variety of music. Up-beat music is just my style. I can appreciate this type of music, but I don't personally like it. And if you're going to try to pull 'then why are you listening to this', it's because a friend told me I should listen to this song. Please don't get on other people's backs because they diss
@AnimeNerdsUnleashed Although I don't concur with you....I respect the civil way in which you have expressed your feelings. Musical beauty is in the ears of the be'hearer, just as physical beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I love this type of music. Those who disparage your statement are overlooking the fact that you have admitted you can appreciate the talent that is required to create it.
daym! on one hand no big deal if some jerks dislike vids on the webz, on the other they take the effort to click on the fuckin dislike button. thats what gets me raging. this music is awesome, anyone who thinks its not, well, u have no soul, listen to your commercial pop shit and get a hangover. happy?!
@BirdDizCC :: Did you get all chords which Flanagan uses for Miles' introductory chorus? It is so beautiful in another way than this one, more into tone, phrasing and "speaking harmonies" as far as I can hear they are a bit different from what Brubeck does, not much, but Flanagan uses dim5 other places than Brubeck does.
This is great stuff, listen to a genius. I interviewed him in the 90's when he performed in Pittsburgh; a class gentlemen. His rhythmic and harmonic sense is uncanny. BTW, his hands are big, capable of spanning a 12th. Thanks so much for posting; a real treat !
This is why I love brubeck. Even on a soft ballad, he can swing hard. And they say he couldnt swing. Listen to that bit in the middle of his solo where he begins using those chords of his and tell me that isnt swing.
Paul Desmond was the reason I took up sax 28 years ago. Like a perfect, chilled gin martini. Sublime.

He plays the piano so delicately, creates music so honestly, like he's putting his kids to sleep and nothing else matters in the world.

What a fabulous musical genius Brubeck is and was. His chordal interpretations are as unique as Monk's.
Stay well Dave.

Great delicacy and yet great strength - possibly the best version of Dave's lovely tune on record. My thanks.
