Very uncomfortable film with it's passive narration and brutal honesty. It's very much a physical piece of work. I felt physically sick in places, and i've seen a lot of films and it's never happened before! Very spellbinding
@foleoroelof Sounds like moral nonsense to me -- as you said, it's based on belief rather than observation. Many people have found suicide to be an answer to all their problems. Yes, it affects others around them, but that's often because they can't tolerate the thought of suicide because a) they're insecure and would feel betrayed and b) blame themselves. The important thing here is that a person wants to die. You deal with it from there, instead of telling them their feelings are wrong.
Your observation ends when life ends. You probably believe that there is nothing after death. That our mind or spirit is somehow gone too, like our body will disappear after a while. That is a belief too.
And I never said people's feelings are wrong if they contemplate suicide. Feelings are real, it's the way you deal with them. Suicide is imho a very wrong choice.
@foleoroelof I don't know what happens after life, but but all plausible information points to the end of consciousness and no soul. People believe in soul's in order to not fear death.
You still haven't explained why suicide is wrong.
I told you what I believe. My believe is the result of my 47 years experience on this planet so far. There is not enough room here to explain how I came to my belief. But I acknowledge it is a belief. Just like yours by the way. There are many scientist that believe in something like God, 'a bigger plan', reincarnation, etc. Despite 'plausible information'.
Suicide is wrong because it only increases the suffering of one's soul. Again: that is my belief.
To say that the notion of a mortal soul is 'too much' for me is grossly exaggerated. However it is true that my belief, amongst others
- reduces my fear of death
- helps me deal with feelings that may cause other people to commit suicide
- helps me explain the purpose of life.
When I was younger, I did not believe what I believe today. The thought of a mortal soul never bothered me though. But you may assume whatever you want.
Im going to see it sounds very interesting only the idea of chosing such a slow death its really scary. I have heard that in Japan 14 century or something near they had a ritual of live mumyfying people they used painkiler herbs, stoped to eat and slowly remouved parts of body til one died. It was linked with prayers and other religious stuff. It scares the hell of me!!!
No no examinations no tests just scary idea that people have. People are mad sometime to invent such a things.

@foleoroelof Why?

Suicide is no answer to any problem and it will only bring more suffering. That is my belief.
Suicide should be actively discouraged. The film does not seem to do that.

@foleoroelof I assume you believe in a soul because without it the truth of limited, mortal existence would be too much.
