@bustballz your talkin out of your ass. do a little research and you'll learn that brian jones was a psycho and basically was useless in the band after a certain point
@barneez1 He wasn't a "psycho" he was a drug addict because of his self medicating that he did to try and cope with his depression as a result of Richards/Jagger constantly picking on him and bullying him. He had self esteem issues before and they just crushed him. Nothing against Richars/Jagger, I love them both to death! Just how it happened.. And Brian did form the band and dealt with everything and was definitely the leader despite what Micky says.

A very interesting interview! I bought the book to listen to it in full lenght and I must say: it's amazing! Definitely gives a deep insight into the rock scene of the 70s.
After reading "Life", I got the feeling Keith was very hurt by Mick's coldness toward him, but they did hash it out and became good friends again. He also said he's "slit anyone's throat who talked against Mick." Now there's a friend for you.
As a long time Stones fan I have to say that this is one of the best discussions I've ever read on You Tube. With a few exceptions this is interesting and informative for a change. Bless you all, Stones forever.

Brian Jones created the hippie dressing and was part of the movement. No one was dressing like that before Brian came along. I think his influence goes way past what he did in the Stones. Other than that it sounds like the guy was just an asshole..
@dannyd1572 Brian was a troubled and flawed guy with a dark side. But not as bad as the glimmers wants us to believe. I mean, yes, he could be an ass. But so could the glimmers. They were horrible against him as well. Winners write the history.
@atticthoughts Bill Wyman says he felt sorry for him but there is a video on here and I forget what its titled..something about The Rolling Stones Talk About Brian Jones. In that video Charlie says something to the effect of "I alway felt sorry for Brian. HE was such a horrible terrible person. He was someone who just made people mad all the time." I think Charlie is pretty honest and down to earth and don't believe he would be the type to rewrite history. Death always makes you famous tho.
@dannyd1572 In the interview he say that Brian wasn't very nice or pleasant (nothing about him being horrible) to be around and that's pretty easy to understand. I don't find persons on drugs or alcohol pleasant to be around either even if they are nice. Charlie has also said that he got closer to Brian in the end and that he got nicer (probably because he cut down on drugs). When he was asked about Brian's cruel side he compared him with John Lennon who also could be an ass.
@atticthoughts "I always felt sorry for Brian. He was two things- he was not very nice, and he upset people easily. He wasn't really pleasant." -Charlie. I must have Charlies quote mixed up with some stuff I've been reading in Keith's book, which is grea.t
@dannyd1572 Keith has his own personal vendetta against Brian even after all this years. We were many that had hoped he would have matured a bit and give us a more balanced view on Brian but I guess it was too much to ask. I don't have much to say about the rest of his book. It is what it is. But regarding Brian it's personal assassination. I mean he couldn't even give Brian credit for forming and promoting the band while every other source claim that. Anita incident guilt on repeat.
@atticthoughts Yeah, I agree. He seems to afer all these years have a hatred against Brian. HIs book also attacked Mick for no apparent reason and barely mentioned Bill WYman only but a handful of times, which I thought was odd. I can say I came away with a different outlook about Keith after reading it. Hell, I like Jagger...what Stones fan doesn't? Yet he cut him down throughout the book for no reason at all.
@dannyd1572 I totally agree. Before I read "Life" Keith was the man IMO and Mick was hard to get into. You know, Keith felt more honest and down to earth. After "Life" I changed my mind. I'm still a huge fan of the old 60's -70's Keith. But today Mick is the man in the Stones, acting his age and a gentleman when speaking about the others. I only wish that he also would share some happier memories with Brian. There got to be some judging from photos.
@atticthoughts In some interviews you'll see where Kieth talks about Brian good then he'll end the sentence with something like..but Brian was a real asshole...or Brian beat his bitches down, which very well could have happened. But I've never heard him say anything good about the times they've had together. I do like the pic of Brian and Keith in the studio sharing both ends of a joint. LOL
@dannyd1572 Either that or he'll get a sad look on his face and end with a nice comment. That's rare though. About that pic, (I love it btw) there are lots of those where they had fun together goofing around. Same with Brian and Mick as well. My wish is that someday someone will put those in front of Keith and ask him to comment. I would love to hear some unheard stories!
@atticthoughts There is another great shot of him and Brian setting beside a pool flipping off the camera. I think Keith said in his book that was during a tour break in California. Keith has a rough exterior. Maybe that's just him. However, he is an animal lover and rescues strays. LOL So I think he's pry a good person, it's just his persona. Like I said, I don't know how you spend 30 years with someone (Bill Wyman), write a huge life story and only mention them a couple times half assed.
@dannyd1572 The funny thing is that Brian also had a big heart for animals. He had cats, dogs and even a pet goat(!). :) Anyway, yes, Keith has become the myth about himself. One of Brian's friends who also met Keith in 68 say that Keith was a romantic guy with a big heart. Maybe he feel the need to protect that side after a rough living in the 70's? But yeah, I agree with you. I also have to say that Mick is damn funny! I hadn't seen that quote before.
@atticthoughts A goat? That is funny. Yeah, Mick does have a sense of humor even about himself. He was on the Jimmy Kimmel show (Vid is on here) and Kimmell brought him on stage to promote the re-release of Exile and they did a little thing where Jimmy acted like Mick telling Mick what moves to do....you know to do the rooster, pointing your fingers..etc. It was really funny.
@dannyd1572 Also about Brian. I'm not saying that Keith is lying about Brian's darker sides. The guy was a bastard towards some of his women. It seems to have been drug related but that's no excuse. But in Keith's case it all comes down to Anita. Brian never forgave Keith for "taking" Anita and Keith can't forgive Brian for hitting her (even though she herself was no angel by any means). She used Brian against Keith when they fought to make him jealous. You can't beat a dead guy.
@atticthoughts There is a vid on here with a reporter asking Keith about Mick's knighthood cause Keith was pissed. He said so in the papers. So the next interview is Mick and the guy says something like "Keith didn't think you should have taken the knight hood." Mick says "Well Keith is not a happy person." Interviewer says "Whats that mean?" Mick says "Its what it means, if you don't understand that then you don't understand anything." So Mick in a round about way said he's an asshole. LOL
Who gives a shit.....the stones make great music from thier own experiences. Brian was a great musician tho....shame he could not find the exit door in the hall of fame. But heey he was smashed most a the time.
haha Brian wasnt the leader? Ok Mick, if it wasn't for him you would just be a spotty student in London singing at the weekends, Brian picked you and Keith in his band that he created and named. I know Mick ended up as leader through being Oldham's best mate but Brian was the original leader and its just a bitter thing to say that he never was.
Wow. Sir Mick Jagger trying to rewrite history. For a different opinion for someone who was there read Bill Wyman's book "STONE ALONE" and it puts into question Sir Mick Jagger 's attempt at rewriting history. Ironically, this history of the band was brushed over on the Larry King LIVE interiview as well. Bill Wyman doesn't have any axe to grind and is more forthcoming with the truth. Thank You to Bill Wyman for writing "STONE ALONE".
Interesting how the Stones never mention Brian now. Keith disses Brian in his book and said Anita Pallenberg needed rescuing which is a bunch of crap since she had balls of steel.
Brian formed the group, was its leader and will always be the Stones
@mirdaldsta Yes, Keith in shiny armor. Utter BS! Anita was anything but a weak woman and knew exactly what she did with both Brian and later Keith. If she had got her claws around Mick as well there would be no more Stones. But he was scared of her. Wise man! Keith disses Brian today for a lot of reasons but mainly (I believe) because of that the love triangle between him, Brian and Anita continued after Brian died. She even kept a photo of Brian by her bed. Can't compete with a dead guy...
@atticthoughts You got a bit crossed. Anita did try to control Mick, they screwed around on the set of Performance and did little to hide it. Thei co star James Fox was flipped out about it as well as their drug taking. Mick wasn't having it, she coulldn't control him and was an utter jealous bitch towards Bianca because of it.
As I've said many times before about this ridiculous debate, Brian is somewhat a forgotten hero of the 60's, but to tarnish the rest of the band his hideous.
@JoshSwartzberg It's not about tarnish the rest of the band. It's impossible to be a Brian fan if you isn't a fan of the Stones. I like them all. It's about bringing some kind of balance to a biased debate. Some people really seem to believe that Brian wore the black hat and the glimmers the white. No context, no knowledge about what went on inside the Stones or the fact that Brian is dead and can't give his side of the story. As a fan I will defend him if I think he's trashed without reason
@mirdaldsta What more can they say? they've had to talk about him in interviews for years. By watching videos of their interivews I think there's a lot of mixed feelings, sadness and even a bit of guilt because they had to kick him out, NOT guilt for having had murdered him as some would love to believe. The guy lived, played great music, was an interesting, charasmatic star who was self destructive and died at the age of 27. Not unlike Amywinehouse.
@JoshSwartzberg In the 70's they at least gave him some credit along with the negative views. The bashing has become harder for every decade and even though Mick tries to be somewhat polite Keith shows no mercy. It wouldn't hurt them to give him some positive words and credit 43 years after his death. They had fun times as well. Isn't it time to grow up. Brian is no threat..
Other than that I agree. The big difference today are rehabs and understanding of personality disorders.
Brian wasn't an elected leader but he did form them, name them and worked his butt off for them to get noticed. He was also the one that the others wanted to kick Stu out. For Brian it was his band and therefor he took the roll as their leader. It wasn't a wise move and they made him pay for it after Oldham took over.
Even though Brian lost the band to the glimmers he was still considered to be the second man in the band to the public and he always thought about the Stones as his band.
I disagree with Mick. Brian was the leader all the way to the end he formed the group if it wasn't for Brian there would've never been such thing called the rolling stones
I don't understand the comment "Brian Jones wanted to be the leader of the band". It was he who formed the band. Mick Jagger wasn't even his first choice of vocalist. Paul Jones was offered the job and turned it down. Jagger and Richards gradually sidelined Brian. Not very grateful considering how hard he worked to get them gigs, radio and TV exposure in the early days. He was also a multi-instrumentalist and a crucial part of their early development and sound.
@Galericulus Hello. Thank you for your fine comment. The fashion of Brian was so wonderful, that it has encouraged me to have clothes made like this. We will fairly soon, be living in London, for part of each year and it will probably be much easier to find people there who understand both the era, and seamstress skills.
@Galericulus But he couldn't write or sing! Sorry, Brian was also a very nasty person and a notorious woman beater. Believe me, if you were in a band with that guy, you'd get rid of him too. Brian brought on his own demise, sad to say.
@RubHerSoul1 And you know this how? Were you there? If a band find they have differences with their leader, the person who formed the band, gave the band its name and recruited them to be in it, the decent thing to do is to leave the band themselves and form another one. It is not up to those he recruited to stage a coup and presume to "get rid of him". As it happens, Brian Jones agreed to let them to continue using the Rolling Stones' name for a fee which he never received before he died
@Galericulus Let me see. Every fucking time Keith and Mick et al are asked about Brian, they all say the same thing; what an asshole he was. And THEY WERE OBVIOUSLY THERE WITH HIM! Are you fucking stupid? Didn't Charlie Watts just say as much in this video you're watching? Were YOU there to witness Brian Jones acting differently? I like his contribution to their music but he was just a session player after '65. Name 1 song or lyric he wrote for these guys. I'll wait.......
@RubHerSoul1 You have every right to hold your own views and to disagree with mine, but you have no right whatsoever to be abusive and offensive. As I suspected, your main reference source in support of your allegations about Brian Jones is the two people with most to gain from discrediting him. Unreliable. And Charlie Watts does not talk here. If you have independent evidence, such as social workers' reports, A & E evidence or Police reports, I will accept your assertion. Otherwise not.
@Galericulus I don't give a FUCk what you accept! He was a douche and so are you! What are you, Brian's mother or something? Just another idiot confusing opinion with fact. Whatever. Go suck his dead ass for all I care.
@RubHerSoul1 You have clearly demonstrated for all to see which of us is confusing opinion with fact, and which is the idiot. I do not correspond with offensive retards who cannot substantiate their position by logic or evidence and rely instead on mindless abuse, so I will not be responding to you any more. But I will teach you one last thing: rumour and gossip do not constitute fact or evidence, especialluy when uttered by the very people with something to gain by maligning someone else.
@Galericulus Read a book on the Stones. Mick and Charlie played with Alexis Korner, the best r'n b band in London at the time. keith wasn't allowed in that band. Meanwhile Mick had a band with keith called little boy blue and the blue boys. Brian sat in with Alexis Korner's band as well as Stu. Later, Brian pulled those elements together to form a new band. So yes, in that sense he formed the orignal line up called THE ROLLING STONES. But it wasn't pulled out of his magic hat or his ass!
@JoshSwartzberg You need to read more than one book on the Stones. Every person has different recollections and perceptions of what happened. A good and reliable sorce of information is Paul Jones, who was lead singer and harmonica player with Manfred Mann and the Bluesband, as well as having a successful solo career and broadcasting a long-running weekly radio programme in the UK called "The Blues Programme". He was also part of that set with Alexis Korner, Eric Burdon, Brian Jones, etc.
@Galericulus Your an assuming twat. I've read most every book written on the Stones including STONE ALONE and in that bill states that while Brian was leader of the band in the earliest days, he got the gigs, taught Keith to play better guitar as well as tried to seperate him from Jagger, why? Brian also would pocket most of the ca$h and NOT pay the rest of the band, don't you think this behaviour would create resentments down the road. The writitng is on the wall or literally in the songs.
@Galericulus If Brian was truly the leader when the STONES made their success, why did he so humbly bow down when Jagger/Richards "took credit" for all their early and later hits? What evil 22 year old kids Mick and keith were, no? and Brian the sweet innocent leader of THE GREATEST ROCK'N ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD. A lot of great music came out of this band with and without Brian. He played his part and deserves his star, but by the time they were internationally famous who wrote and continued?
@JoshSwartzberg Brian definitely was their leader, and he did lead them to success. That is why it was so treacherous that they them took over his position, his girlfriend and finally his group. They didn't even get to pay the agreed payments to continue using the name he gave the group they usurped him from. I agree that a lot of great music came out of the band when Brian was in it, but after that it degenerated into unimpressive generic rubbish. You were two when Brian was murdered.
@Galericulus Let's see "Midnight Rambler, Sympathy for the Devil,(watch the movie),Jumping Jack flash, Moonlight Mile, fuck it, all the best Stones records, were written while Brian was just a dim light or dead. You conspiracy Jones freaks are out of your minds. Brian Jones in many ways is an unsung hero of the Stones and the 60's but you make it worse with your rupert murdoch tabloid style mis information. He will be even less remembered for his worth if you types carry on with this rant.
@Galericulus ...and let's not forget how only Bill and Charlie attended Brian's funeral. Mick was filming Ned Kelly in Australia - an excuse? - bollocks......as for Keith... he was 'busy in the studio'. What a pair of cunts.
@bagzie Know what' maybe you're the cunt. Do you know them personally? Maybe they were burned out by him? Most Stones fans and critics will agree that they went on to do their most serious work when Brian was in effective or dead. Except for Ned Kelly left a lot to be desired. Right, Jagger should probably have gone to his funeral instead. I'm Stones fan and dig all their earliest work, post Brian and a lot of their music right up to today. Depends on what mood I am in.
@Galericulus He was also a self-destructive Prick who alienated everyone with his nasty behaviour, rudeness, and cruetly. Genius maybe. Decent fellow; no. He got "sidelined" because he was a jerk once he got a bit of fame and money. He self-destructed. Don't blame Mick and Keith for that.
@Galericulus What were Mick and Keith expected to do, follow a clearly inferior talent and fight it out on the charts with the Yardbirds instead of the Beatles? Mick and Keith did what any superior talents would do. They recognized reality and acted on that information.
@Maverikk68 Without Mick and Keith taking over the Stones would have ended up being another Yardbirds. Without Brian's addings to the songs the Stones would have ended up being another Yardbirds.
@atticthoughts That's stupid to even say. What did Brian ever write? His addings were easily replaced by better guitarists and slide players, Mick and Keith could never be replaced. Every adding that Brian brought to Mick and Keith's songs could have been done by Mick Taylor or Ronnie Wood, and it's not like Brian had a lot of standout moments in the band. That's why he was easily pushed to the background and got all depressed and insecure.
@Maverikk68 I wonder if we've been listening to the same band? Brian not having stand out moments -come on. I'm not bashing the glimmers work. I'm just saying that Brian was one of keys to why the Stones was successful in the 60's. Taylor and Wood are great musicians in their own right but they're not Brian. That guy was more to the band than the music. He was just as popular as Mick. So no, he couldn't have been replaced easily and that's probably the reason why he kept his place for so long.
@atticthoughts Brian was pushed to the background because he wasn't at Mick and Keith's level. He WAS easily replaced. These are facts. You're acting as if the Stones somehow flopped without him. They went on to even greater success, and the success they had WITH him was because of Mick and Keith, not Brian. He couldn't write a song to save his life, he couldn't sing, and he didn't have a recognizable guitar like Keith did.
@Maverikk68 No, I'm not acting like that at all because I'm not talking about what happend after Brian left the band. The Stones was around before 69 you know and had a successful career before Sticky Fingers. Brian was one of the keys to that success starting with him forming (with Stu) and promoting the band. If you know anything about the music climate in the 60's you know why Brian wasn't easily replaced. As a musician he was ahead of both Mick and Keith. But he wasn't a song writer.
@atticthoughts He was not ahead of Keith as a musician. That's ridiculous. Did he play more instruments? Yes, but he was a master of none of them, and the reason he gravitated toward other stuff was because he couldn't compete with Keith as a guitarist. Not even close! The very reason that he had a breakdown in his confidence and turned to heavy drug use was because he couldn't cope with reality that hit him where he lived. The cream rose to the top, and he couldn't.
@Maverikk68 Do you have to be a master to make it sound good? No. Brian's interest in sounds made him set out to be a swiss army knife as a musician - not a master. But to be fair none of the Stones were masters on their instruments back then. Brian was a true musicians soul and that can be heard in his playing. He was an innovative player with an ear for sounds. It's on the songs. In that sense he was ahead of Keith. That doesn't mean that I try to take anything away from the glimmers.
@Maverikk68 The reason Brian turned to other instruments was because of his love for sounds. He has said it himself in interviews. As you may know he didn't start with the guitar but saxophone and piano. Then he found the hamonica and slide when he got hooked on blues. Then he got fed up and moved on. It had nothing to do with Keith becoming a better player. Brian had lost interest in the guitar. He found the interest again though in 68 and started to take lessons.
@atticthoughts It had everything to do with Keith being a better player. Brian didn't exactly have a choice because he was pushed into the background. Keith became the dominant musical leader of the group. This really can't be debated. He didn't take over the musical direction of the band because Brian was somehow ahead of him. Keith had buried Brian because Brian couldn't compete with him at the same level.
@Maverikk68 No, it didn't. I'd believe what Brian himself has said on that and compare that with his history with instruments. He lost interest in the guitar. Brian also lost his voice about what the band should do and not do in 64. But he was there in the music they put out and still had things to say in the studio. For instance; The Satanic Sessions Box show that he and Keith worked out arrangements together with Nicky Hopkins. But in 68 Keith took over more and more since Brian was absent.
@Maverikk68 the whole myth about brian jones is ridiculous. He had little to do with the stones success. They actuallyput out their best music right after he left. why do people need to build up someone just because they died young.
@45arther It's no myth. He did what he did and was an important member of the band in the 60's. Brian started it and gave them the name. He promoted them, was their spokes person and made them known early on. Soundwise he made them stand out. Even though you prefer what they did later it's a fact that without Brian and the 60's catalogue there wouldn't have been a 70's catalogue with the Stones. For me it has nothing to do with him dying young.
@Maverikk68 What is a "better" guitar player? What did Brian play that wasn't good enough? It was pop songs 60's - not prog rock 70's. His understanding for sounds made sure he wasn't stuck to just the guitar. That gave the Stones a unique sound. He most likely wrote what he played and he added a lot of interesting sounds with his more unusual instruments to the songs. In 67 he even saved some of the songs with his addings. The mellotron works on We Love You and 2000 Lightyears are superb.
Brian Jones was a reasonably talented musician who turned into a junkie egomaniac starfucker who stopped showing up for practice and then gigs. What were the rest of the Stones to do? Get rid of him, as they did. When Keith friggin Richards has a problem with your excesses...you know you're fucked up.
Brian invented the Stones. He alone. He was a genius of epic proportions but they were all jealous of his talent and his good looks, Especially that;FAG jagger. He was kicked OUT OF HIS OWN BAND! Those mother;fuckers, jagger and fuckhead richards.

Come musicista sicuramente Brian ha dato un grande contributo !

HIs book also attacked Mick for no apparent reason and barely mentioned Bill WYman only but a handful of times, which I thought was odd. I can say I came away with a different outlook about Keith after reading it. Hell, I like Jagger...what Stones fan doesn't? Yet he cut him down throughout the book for no reason at all.
dannyd1572 7 months ago
@dannyd1572 I totally agree. Before I read "Life" Keith was the man IMO and Mick was hard to get into. You know, Keith felt more honest and down to earth. After "Life" I changed my mind. I'm still a huge fan of the old 60's -70's Keith. But today Mick is the man in the Stones, acting his age and a gentleman when speaking about the others. I only wish that he also would share some happier memories with Brian. There got to be some judging from photos.
atticthoughts 7 months ago
@atticthoughts In some interviews you'll see where Kieth talks about Brian good then he'll end the sentence with something like..but Brian was a real asshole...or Brian beat his bitches down, which very well could have happened. But I've never heard him say anything good about the times they've had together. I do like the pic of Brian and Keith in the studio sharing both ends of a joint. LOL
dannyd1572 7 months ago
@dannyd1572 Either that or he'll get a sad look on his face and end with a nice comment. That's rare though. About that pic, (I love it btw) there are lots of those where they had fun together goofing around. Same with Brian and Mick as well. My wish is that someday someone will put those in front of Keith and ask him to comment. I would love to hear some unheard stories!
atticthoughts 6 months ago
@atticthoughts There is another great shot of him and Brian setting beside a pool flipping off the camera. I think Keith said in his book that was during a tour break in California. Keith has a rough exterior. Maybe that's just him. However, he is an animal lover and rescues strays. LOL So I think he's pry a good person, it's just his persona. Like I said, I don't know how you spend 30 years with someone (Bill Wyman), write a huge life story and only mention them a couple times half assed.
dannyd1572 6 months ago
@dannyd1572 The funny thing is that Brian also had a big heart for animals. He had cats, dogs and even a pet goat(!). :) Anyway, yes, Keith has become the myth about himself. One of Brian's friends who also met Keith in 68 say that Keith was a romantic guy with a big heart. Maybe he feel the need to protect that side after a rough living in the 70's? But yeah, I agree with you. I also have to say that Mick is damn funny! I hadn't seen that quote before.
atticthoughts 6 months ago
@atticthoughts A goat? That is funny. Yeah, Mick does have a sense of humor even about himself. He was on the Jimmy Kimmel show (Vid is on here) and Kimmell brought him on stage to promote the re-release of Exile and they did a little thing where Jimmy acted like Mick telling Mick what moves to do....you know to do the rooster, pointing your fingers..etc. It was really funny.
dannyd1572 6 months ago
@dannyd1572 Also about Brian. I'm not saying that Keith is lying about Brian's darker sides. The guy was a bastard towards some of his women. It seems to have been drug related but that's no excuse. But in Keith's case it all comes down to Anita. Brian never forgave Keith for "taking" Anita and Keith can't forgive Brian for hitting her (even though she herself was no angel by any means). She used Brian against Keith when they fought to make him jealous. You can't beat a dead guy.
atticthoughts 6 months ago
@atticthoughts There is a vid on here with a reporter asking Keith about Mick's knighthood cause Keith was pissed. He said so in the papers. So the next interview is Mick and the guy says something like "Keith didn't think you should have taken the knight hood." Mick says "Well Keith is not a happy person." Interviewer says "Whats that mean?" Mick says "Its what it means, if you don't understand that then you don't understand anything." So Mick in a round about way said he's an asshole. LOL
dannyd1572 6 months ago
Who gives a shit.....the stones make great music from thier own experiences. Brian was a great musician tho....shame he could not find the exit door in the hall of fame. But heey he was smashed most a the time.
Ladybird5352 9 months ago
haha Brian wasnt the leader? Ok Mick, if it wasn't for him you would just be a spotty student in London singing at the weekends, Brian picked you and Keith in his band that he created and named. I know Mick ended up as leader through being Oldham's best mate but Brian was the original leader and its just a bitter thing to say that he never was.
Spiderrico123 10 months ago

Brian was such a great musician...
p3t3rVL12 11 months ago
Interesting how the Stones never mention Brian now. Keith disses Brian in his book and said Anita Pallenberg needed rescuing which is a bunch of crap since she had balls of steel.
Brian formed the group, was its leader and will always be the Stones
mirdaldsta 11 months ago 2
@mirdaldsta Yes, Keith in shiny armor. Utter BS! Anita was anything but a weak woman and knew exactly what she did with both Brian and later Keith. If she had got her claws around Mick as well there would be no more Stones. But he was scared of her. Wise man! Keith disses Brian today for a lot of reasons but mainly (I believe) because of that the love triangle between him, Brian and Anita continued after Brian died. She even kept a photo of Brian by her bed. Can't compete with a dead guy...
atticthoughts 11 months ago
@atticthoughts You got a bit crossed. Anita did try to control Mick, they screwed around on the set of Performance and did little to hide it. Thei co star James Fox was flipped out about it as well as their drug taking. Mick wasn't having it, she coulldn't control him and was an utter jealous bitch towards Bianca because of it.
As I've said many times before about this ridiculous debate, Brian is somewhat a forgotten hero of the 60's, but to tarnish the rest of the band his hideous.
JoshSwartzberg 6 months ago
@JoshSwartzberg It's not about tarnish the rest of the band. It's impossible to be a Brian fan if you isn't a fan of the Stones. I like them all. It's about bringing some kind of balance to a biased debate. Some people really seem to believe that Brian wore the black hat and the glimmers the white. No context, no knowledge about what went on inside the Stones or the fact that Brian is dead and can't give his side of the story. As a fan I will defend him if I think he's trashed without reason
atticthoughts 6 months ago
@mirdaldsta What more can they say? they've had to talk about him in interviews for years. By watching videos of their interivews I think there's a lot of mixed feelings, sadness and even a bit of guilt because they had to kick him out, NOT guilt for having had murdered him as some would love to believe. The guy lived, played great music, was an interesting, charasmatic star who was self destructive and died at the age of 27. Not unlike Amywinehouse.
JoshSwartzberg 7 months ago
@JoshSwartzberg In the 70's they at least gave him some credit along with the negative views. The bashing has become harder for every decade and even though Mick tries to be somewhat polite Keith shows no mercy. It wouldn't hurt them to give him some positive words and credit 43 years after his death. They had fun times as well. Isn't it time to grow up. Brian is no threat..
Other than that I agree. The big difference today are rehabs and understanding of personality disorders.
atticthoughts 7 months ago
Brian wasn't an elected leader but he did form them, name them and worked his butt off for them to get noticed. He was also the one that the others wanted to kick Stu out. For Brian it was his band and therefor he took the roll as their leader. It wasn't a wise move and they made him pay for it after Oldham took over.
Even though Brian lost the band to the glimmers he was still considered to be the second man in the band to the public and he always thought about the Stones as his band.
atticthoughts 11 months ago
I disagree with Mick. Brian was the leader all the way to the end he formed the group if it wasn't for Brian there would've never been such thing called the rolling stones
123mattsh 11 months ago 2
I don't understand the comment "Brian Jones wanted to be the leader of the band". It was he who formed the band. Mick Jagger wasn't even his first choice of vocalist. Paul Jones was offered the job and turned it down. Jagger and Richards gradually sidelined Brian. Not very grateful considering how hard he worked to get them gigs, radio and TV exposure in the early days. He was also a multi-instrumentalist and a crucial part of their early development and sound.
Galericulus 11 months ago 10
@Galericulus very good observations. I like the band with Brian, FAR better than without, and his fashion, I think was the best in all of London.
SeattleLA 8 months ago
@SeattleLA You show good taste sir.
Galericulus 8 months ago
@Galericulus Hello. Thank you for your fine comment. The fashion of Brian was so wonderful, that it has encouraged me to have clothes made like this. We will fairly soon, be living in London, for part of each year and it will probably be much easier to find people there who understand both the era, and seamstress skills.
SeattleLA 8 months ago
@Galericulus But he couldn't write or sing! Sorry, Brian was also a very nasty person and a notorious woman beater. Believe me, if you were in a band with that guy, you'd get rid of him too. Brian brought on his own demise, sad to say.
RubHerSoul1 7 months ago
@RubHerSoul1 And you know this how? Were you there? If a band find they have differences with their leader, the person who formed the band, gave the band its name and recruited them to be in it, the decent thing to do is to leave the band themselves and form another one. It is not up to those he recruited to stage a coup and presume to "get rid of him". As it happens, Brian Jones agreed to let them to continue using the Rolling Stones' name for a fee which he never received before he died
Galericulus 7 months ago
@Galericulus Let me see. Every fucking time Keith and Mick et al are asked about Brian, they all say the same thing; what an asshole he was. And THEY WERE OBVIOUSLY THERE WITH HIM! Are you fucking stupid? Didn't Charlie Watts just say as much in this video you're watching? Were YOU there to witness Brian Jones acting differently? I like his contribution to their music but he was just a session player after '65. Name 1 song or lyric he wrote for these guys. I'll wait.......
RubHerSoul1 7 months ago
@RubHerSoul1 You have every right to hold your own views and to disagree with mine, but you have no right whatsoever to be abusive and offensive. As I suspected, your main reference source in support of your allegations about Brian Jones is the two people with most to gain from discrediting him. Unreliable. And Charlie Watts does not talk here. If you have independent evidence, such as social workers' reports, A & E evidence or Police reports, I will accept your assertion. Otherwise not.
Galericulus 7 months ago
@Galericulus I don't give a FUCk what you accept! He was a douche and so are you! What are you, Brian's mother or something? Just another idiot confusing opinion with fact. Whatever. Go suck his dead ass for all I care.
RubHerSoul1 7 months ago

JoshSwartzberg 7 months ago
@JoshSwartzberg You need to read more than one book on the Stones. Every person has different recollections and perceptions of what happened. A good and reliable sorce of information is Paul Jones, who was lead singer and harmonica player with Manfred Mann and the Bluesband, as well as having a successful solo career and broadcasting a long-running weekly radio programme in the UK called "The Blues Programme". He was also part of that set with Alexis Korner, Eric Burdon, Brian Jones, etc.
Galericulus 7 months ago
@Galericulus Your an assuming twat. I've read most every book written on the Stones including STONE ALONE and in that bill states that while Brian was leader of the band in the earliest days, he got the gigs, taught Keith to play better guitar as well as tried to seperate him from Jagger, why? Brian also would pocket most of the ca$h and NOT pay the rest of the band, don't you think this behaviour would create resentments down the road. The writitng is on the wall or literally in the songs.
JoshSwartzberg 7 months ago
@Galericulus If Brian was truly the leader when the STONES made their success, why did he so humbly bow down when Jagger/Richards "took credit" for all their early and later hits? What evil 22 year old kids Mick and keith were, no? and Brian the sweet innocent leader of THE GREATEST ROCK'N ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD. A lot of great music came out of this band with and without Brian. He played his part and deserves his star, but by the time they were internationally famous who wrote and continued?
JoshSwartzberg 7 months ago
@JoshSwartzberg Brian definitely was their leader, and he did lead them to success. That is why it was so treacherous that they them took over his position, his girlfriend and finally his group. They didn't even get to pay the agreed payments to continue using the name he gave the group they usurped him from. I agree that a lot of great music came out of the band when Brian was in it, but after that it degenerated into unimpressive generic rubbish. You were two when Brian was murdered.
Galericulus 7 months ago
@Galericulus Let's see "Midnight Rambler, Sympathy for the Devil,(watch the movie),Jumping Jack flash, Moonlight Mile, fuck it, all the best Stones records, were written while Brian was just a dim light or dead. You conspiracy Jones freaks are out of your minds. Brian Jones in many ways is an unsung hero of the Stones and the 60's but you make it worse with your rupert murdoch tabloid style mis information. He will be even less remembered for his worth if you types carry on with this rant.
JoshSwartzberg 7 months ago
@Galericulus ...and let's not forget how only Bill and Charlie attended Brian's funeral. Mick was filming Ned Kelly in Australia - an excuse? - bollocks......as for Keith... he was 'busy in the studio'. What a pair of cunts.
bagzie 7 months ago
@bagzie Know what' maybe you're the cunt. Do you know them personally? Maybe they were burned out by him? Most Stones fans and critics will agree that they went on to do their most serious work when Brian was in effective or dead. Except for Ned Kelly left a lot to be desired. Right, Jagger should probably have gone to his funeral instead. I'm Stones fan and dig all their earliest work, post Brian and a lot of their music right up to today. Depends on what mood I am in.
JoshSwartzberg 6 months ago
@bagzie Cheer up mate! There are worse pricks out their in the world than Jagger and Richards. Me for instance.
JoshSwartzberg 6 months ago
@Galericulus He was also a self-destructive Prick who alienated everyone with his nasty behaviour, rudeness, and cruetly. Genius maybe. Decent fellow; no. He got "sidelined" because he was a jerk once he got a bit of fame and money. He self-destructed. Don't blame Mick and Keith for that.
swiggy58a 6 months ago
@swiggy58a You must have known Brian well for leaving a comment like that...
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@Galericulus What were Mick and Keith expected to do, follow a clearly inferior talent and fight it out on the charts with the Yardbirds instead of the Beatles? Mick and Keith did what any superior talents would do. They recognized reality and acted on that information.
Maverikk68 6 months ago
@Maverikk68 Without Mick and Keith taking over the Stones would have ended up being another Yardbirds. Without Brian's addings to the songs the Stones would have ended up being another Yardbirds.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@atticthoughts That's stupid to even say. What did Brian ever write? His addings were easily replaced by better guitarists and slide players, Mick and Keith could never be replaced. Every adding that Brian brought to Mick and Keith's songs could have been done by Mick Taylor or Ronnie Wood, and it's not like Brian had a lot of standout moments in the band. That's why he was easily pushed to the background and got all depressed and insecure.
Maverikk68 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 I wonder if we've been listening to the same band? Brian not having stand out moments -come on. I'm not bashing the glimmers work. I'm just saying that Brian was one of keys to why the Stones was successful in the 60's. Taylor and Wood are great musicians in their own right but they're not Brian. That guy was more to the band than the music. He was just as popular as Mick. So no, he couldn't have been replaced easily and that's probably the reason why he kept his place for so long.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@atticthoughts Brian was pushed to the background because he wasn't at Mick and Keith's level. He WAS easily replaced. These are facts. You're acting as if the Stones somehow flopped without him. They went on to even greater success, and the success they had WITH him was because of Mick and Keith, not Brian. He couldn't write a song to save his life, he couldn't sing, and he didn't have a recognizable guitar like Keith did.
Maverikk68 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 No, I'm not acting like that at all because I'm not talking about what happend after Brian left the band. The Stones was around before 69 you know and had a successful career before Sticky Fingers. Brian was one of the keys to that success starting with him forming (with Stu) and promoting the band. If you know anything about the music climate in the 60's you know why Brian wasn't easily replaced. As a musician he was ahead of both Mick and Keith. But he wasn't a song writer.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@atticthoughts He was not ahead of Keith as a musician. That's ridiculous. Did he play more instruments? Yes, but he was a master of none of them, and the reason he gravitated toward other stuff was because he couldn't compete with Keith as a guitarist. Not even close! The very reason that he had a breakdown in his confidence and turned to heavy drug use was because he couldn't cope with reality that hit him where he lived. The cream rose to the top, and he couldn't.
Maverikk68 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 Do you have to be a master to make it sound good? No. Brian's interest in sounds made him set out to be a swiss army knife as a musician - not a master. But to be fair none of the Stones were masters on their instruments back then. Brian was a true musicians soul and that can be heard in his playing. He was an innovative player with an ear for sounds. It's on the songs. In that sense he was ahead of Keith. That doesn't mean that I try to take anything away from the glimmers.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 The reason Brian turned to other instruments was because of his love for sounds. He has said it himself in interviews. As you may know he didn't start with the guitar but saxophone and piano. Then he found the hamonica and slide when he got hooked on blues. Then he got fed up and moved on. It had nothing to do with Keith becoming a better player. Brian had lost interest in the guitar. He found the interest again though in 68 and started to take lessons.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@atticthoughts It had everything to do with Keith being a better player. Brian didn't exactly have a choice because he was pushed into the background. Keith became the dominant musical leader of the group. This really can't be debated. He didn't take over the musical direction of the band because Brian was somehow ahead of him. Keith had buried Brian because Brian couldn't compete with him at the same level.
Maverikk68 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 No, it didn't. I'd believe what Brian himself has said on that and compare that with his history with instruments. He lost interest in the guitar. Brian also lost his voice about what the band should do and not do in 64. But he was there in the music they put out and still had things to say in the studio. For instance; The Satanic Sessions Box show that he and Keith worked out arrangements together with Nicky Hopkins. But in 68 Keith took over more and more since Brian was absent.
atticthoughts 4 months ago
@Maverikk68 the whole myth about brian jones is ridiculous. He had little to do with the stones success. They actuallyput out their best music right after he left. why do people need to build up someone just because they died young.
45arther 5 months ago
@45arther It's no myth. He did what he did and was an important member of the band in the 60's. Brian started it and gave them the name. He promoted them, was their spokes person and made them known early on. Soundwise he made them stand out. Even though you prefer what they did later it's a fact that without Brian and the 60's catalogue there wouldn't have been a 70's catalogue with the Stones. For me it has nothing to do with him dying young.

@Maverikk68 Bullshit.

@ziggypop79 It's not bullshit, it's a fact...
Maverikk68 5 months ago
@Maverikk68 What is a "better" guitar player? What did Brian play that wasn't good enough? It was pop songs 60's - not prog rock 70's. His understanding for sounds made sure he wasn't stuck to just the guitar. That gave the Stones a unique sound. He most likely wrote what he played and he added a lot of interesting sounds with his more unusual instruments to the songs. In 67 he even saved some of the songs with his addings. The mellotron works on We Love You and 2000 Lightyears are superb.
atticthoughts 5 months ago
@Galericulus
