Hi Michael,I really enjoy watching the videos you have put together especially those of Indonesia. I'm a Brit who has been living on Java for 13 years and even now it's a bit of an adventure! Haven't I seen you on National Geographic?
so tragic the story is! As an Indonesian, thank you for uploading these memories.....and these photographs have enriched my view about Indonesia in the past times.......
@greatguy52 My father did; mostly with a selftimer on his old plate camera. He developed them in moonlight! I have a few more clips of his travels. Search for michael+rogge+indonesia
Did he have notes or something about Indonesia?i am searching as many notes, facts, informatin as possible about the old Indonesia. It's so hard to look for written notes about my ancestors in my own country because they were mostly illiterate at that time, not to mention they are, nowadays. But, i love them whatsoever.
@tamalee90 No, unfortunately he did not keep a diary. Of course there is the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam which has thousands of books on the Old indonesia. I'm trying to get hold of old films of Indonesia in the past to upload on YouTube.
salute for you and your father (R.I.P) this video is an eye opener,i'm curious bout what like my Indonesia was in 1900,thank you for sharing here on,and the music is so beautiful, yea gamelan, and poor me,i can't play gamelan....i will learn
@all readers, this is gamelan music. you can find it in indonesia (one of asian country) at west java (bandung atau jogjakarta) thanks. by cn.oneheart50@gmail.com
What a handsome interesting man! And how marvelous that he had these pictures and a son to put them together to convey his story. I also admire your gift for finding the right sounds.

I regret that we had a deaf ear for his stories when we were young. I should have liked to ask him so many things now!
