If there was a meteor big enough to cause all this there would be a crater or impact somewhere on the ground along with charred tree's, none of which were found. There is another very similar story out of Ohio. Same description by witnesses.

dec 11 2011 and 111 views... It is now Monday dec12 and I JUST witnessed ,about 50 min ago a luminescent object possibly on fire although no trail was really visible, falling down from space in a north west manner ,over Montréal (and Laval) , Canada.Didn't appear to be "blasting" like a fire ball though.I was more thinking falling débris although it looked as

a fast descending , tumbling orb.. I stood there quite a while nearly expecting an explosion of some kind but thank god, nope!.. :-)

Most likely a meteor. That would explain the fire ball and the sonic boom. I had this experience here in Canada.

Not long ago I was sitting in my Room on my PC and I heard something I've never heard before in my life outside my home in the Mid West. I'm pretty old and have been all over the States and this wasn't a Normal Earthquake sound or Collision from a wreck, It was Loud and Huge. I don't know what it was just that It Was Something very Weird. Good Luck on the investigation.
