They had this film on HBO the other day (here in the US) with English subtitles. The dialect is simply too thick otherwise, especially if you have little personal experience with it. I don't remember English being spoken like this in Glasgow or Edinburgh when I visited there. I don't think there's anything to be ashamed of watching it with subtitles.

I get why people might not understand it, but it just takes some practice. English isn't even my first language, and I understand it after living in Scotland for a while. It really just is a simple matter of listening carefully and picking it up.

@Leonaloverxx The accents are really thick but if you're an english speaker and listen closely it gets easier to understand. Just need to get in the flow of how they talk. Glaswegian accents are notoriously hard to understand but not impossible.

It's Glasweign. They're speaking English, however, their words change dramatiacally at times because they're speaking with a pure dialect which other parts of scotland may find to understand too. The scottish accent makes it even harder.
