  • thumbs up if you searched for fula rövslickare

  • The question regarding who is the greatest guitarist is always going to be a personal opinion but as a jazz guitar fanatic who has listened to all of the major names and hundreds of lesser known guitarists nobody compares to Wes.

  • Wes and his freaky, freaky thumb.

  • love it.......

  • HE

    IS

    THE

    BEST

  • lame that they didn't include this version on the live in 65 dvd

  • Now thats Guitar playing !

  • Often imitated but never equaled!

  • daymn, love wes

  • what year is this?

  • Thats more than very good, thats all..

  • 4:58-5:06 Sneaking in dat whole tone now? Oh Wes' Ear...you so crazy

  • Wes is the greatest! As a guitar player, he truly is my idol.

  • Is YouTube great or what??!! Love all the old jazz stuff....all these legends I never got to see growing up I can now enjoy.

  • WATCH';`THE';'FULL`..TV'.'SHOW.,,ONLINE''.

  • This is simply amazing, to my ears Wes is the greatest, technical and skillful but also fun and soulful a difficult combination to bridge

  • 3:16 kinda sounds like Take Five doesnt it but in a major key instead of a minor

  • Comment removed

  • Sick fucking piano player, his solo sounds like freaking steel drums.

  • @willwelsh816 HAROLD MABERN...HE STILL PLAYS in NYC

  • how wes could play so well, so fluently, laid back sitting on a chair, smoking a cigarette is inspiring!!

  • Its just no big deal to him....hes mastered it to the point that whatever he imagines he can play...without even trying.

  • A GOD given talent that he worked relentlessly to perfect.

  • thumbs up...stroke!

  • @MattBlackParis good one :))

  • so enjoyable

  • he's beyond madness. love it :)))

  • I love this song...Wes one of the best!!!!!!

  • still no guitarist ever can beat Django, Django is the origin of jazz guitar

  • @atomic116090 I wasn't aware they were competing

  • Comment removed

  • @atomic116090 I love Django. He and Wes aren't competing. They are both geniuses of the guitar. Django listened to Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti-Eddie another genius. Calm down with the "he beat it "stuff. Django didn't invent jazz guitar. He just played it great.

  • Actually, I think his face is saying, What's all the fuss about?

  • What's he quoting at 1.17?

  • @5656bigsteve He quotes `My favourite things`, playing with the notes a bit...

  • @5656bigsteve He quotes the bridge of `My favourite things`. He would also play that with this group.

  • Wes was a phenomanal player. His greatest influence was Charlie Christian. Wes has been my favourite for years - a god among musicians. I've always enjoyed listening to Christian but it's only recently that I've become a big fan of his. Sure, his stuff with Goodman was great but it's when he was away from Goodman that he really shines - stuff like Swing To Bop and Stompin' at The Savoy(LIve at Minton's) or the stuff from 1939 with Jerry Jerome(Stardust, I Got Rhythm, Tea for Two). Amazing stuff.

  • THe fact that he's just chuffed to bits about playing this injects just that bit of extra passion- makes you love jazz. These guys were able to make (something of) a living doing what they love. Marvellous.

  • he´s the greatest I ever heard

  • I have never seen a video of Wes playing this stuff. I knew he used his thumb but , whoah there Nelly , he uses no other digits. Jeff Beck uses all of his fingers and his thumb.

  • swung triple meter is sooooo damn hypnotizing....

  • Metheney is Ok , a little messy but a lot better than Montgomery...still the best is Victor va Kampen...

  • @alzhammer1 The most noble deciding factor in any candidate for the "greatest" in any genre is usually never who played the most chords or scales, the fastest or the most complex arrangements but in the enduring impact their style had on that genre or instrument. Where do Metheny and Van Kampen compare to Montgomery when it comes to influence? They don't even come close. Wes Montgomery IS jazz guitar. Everyone else either came before or after WES. That's how it's been decided ever since Wes.

  • this guy ( Wes Montgomery ) sands the back of his guitar neck just to show that he played a lot. Don't get fooled, it's an old trick.... Victor Van Kampen doesn;t need to do that..!

  • @alzhammer1

    Proof?

  • @alzhammer1 ..don't be such a knob end.

  • Come on..... Victor van kampen is the greatest...!

  • @alzhammer1 good but absolutely not the greatest. Pat Metheny, now there is more towards someone who I would consider the greatest.

    Greetings from mexico. :)

  • him, trane, carter, corea, ... im trying to figure out a superband.. who would take care of percussions in ur opinion???

  • @neopandorex billy cobham or roy haynes

  • My supergroup would consist of Wes, Trane, Miles, Cobham, Carter and Evans

  • @neopandorex Jack DeJohnette?

my personal one would be him and Coltrane but Herbie, jaco and any Brecker brother.

  • Good question...I would love to hear Wes w/ a a aggressive bassist but a laid back and steady drummer like louis hayes.

  • @thehturt I hear you but have you heard Twisted Blues (the version with Harper's solo on gut strings where the drummer is closer to the bass) Give it a listen and tell me if you think he's an aggressive enough bass player.

  • sound so good and he knows it!!!

  • This tune always seems to remind me of ''My Favorite Things''

  • yeah!!!true...while other players seem to "suffer" when they play, wes always played with a smile and a peacefullness that is beyond all comparison.

  • @aljopa Bud powell also always played with a smile

  • @aljopa Wes is great but, other jazzmen as angelo debarre or bireli lagrene aren't smiling at all when playing, and they're both great guitarists !! :)

But it's very pleasant to see how He takes his pleasure by playing the guitar !!!

  • @aljopa Is because they back in the day they really enjoy play music, today they take way too much serious

    TOO MUCH!

    And the joy is gone.

  • I like how Wes is so concentrated in the music, and at the same time, he has a joyful smile on his face.

  • Hey guys do you know where I can get notes of this great song? THX

  • Hal Leonard guitar tab white pages volume 1

  • This is really cool, the bass lick on the guitar the accents on 1 and the of 3, haha, great stuff! smoothly played, never boring, great stuff.

  • his rhythmic phrasing over 3/4 is rather remarkable. He does the most tasty lick ever around 1:40!. The piano solo really should've been before Wes' solo it just undoes all the brilliant work Wes managed to do with his solo. What are chops if it sounds awful?

  • wait, i thought most of the song was in 3/4, what's the time signature for the main theme in the beginning? (if you can answer that it'll help me out alot XP)

  • the entire song is in 3/4 wes is just good at making it sound like it's not in 3/4

  • lol yes I definately came to appreciate that while tranposing this, thank you so much

  • That's so true. I remember years ago, trying to learn the solo off the studio version of this tune - the first half of the first chorus just felt like 4/4 because of the way he played it - I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the one was until later in the 1st chorus! I picked one hell of a "first jazz tune" to learn - I bagged it (temporarily) and went on to easier fare....

  • May God bless Wes" soul. He was a great guitarist and the first guitarist I studied when I started playing in 1968. Nobody does it like Wes.

  • Wes sure looks like he's enjoying himself. The pianist is Harold Mabern.

  • Thanks man

  • thank you for posting this video; could you tell me who the pianist is?

  • wes ur the best guitar player ever iloveyou

  • is wes playing with flatwound strings?

  • MyManDan

    "Yes" ,

Beleive me when I tell you,

    "Wes is using Flatwound Strings"

  • haha ok i believe you man. in that case, those strings give him an awesome tone. i cant wait until i can afford an archtop like his someday so i can string some up myself

  • Yes he is , flatwound strings gauge 0.12 with the tone knob on 0 and a fender amp i think its called a super reverb or something..

  • yea flat

  • Where was this performance and is it on available anywhere?

    StreetWorkout . Com

  • i've heard a few versions of wes playing fulhouse and this is my favourite. greaat piano and gtr solos. plus its the only version i've heard where they play that sweet variation starting at 3.18.

    great stuff muito bom

  • Tens razão! ;-P

  • two thubms up.. ha get it.. he only used his thumb. :] pretty cool stuff. man i wanna do that.

    SOME DAY WES.

  • Damn, that was good.

  • personnel?

  • These Guy's are just Exquisetly GOOD!!!!

  • That's Arthur 'Harper Jr.' there, Snuffy39...and it's good to see folks offerin' up new commentary on this absolutely superb musician(and band)!!...thanks to all of y'all that appreciate this so deeply....Wes continues to confound and amaze me with his uncanny natural understanding of Jazz and guitar....just when I think he can't do something.....he surpasses my expectations....

  • Just noticed I goofed the last name Tnx for the correction - these were great musicians and deserve being properly identified

  • Wes Montgomery Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • maestrisimo

  • is this cat bitchin or what

  • i couldnt help but smile while i watched this

  • HE'S ALL THUMBS!

  • I love Wes! I especially love when he solos with octaves; it's got such a great sound.

  • does anybody know what band he is playing with?

  • These sidemen were Harold Mabern- piano, Arthur Hardy- bass, and Jimmy Lovelace- drums. They were with Wes on his European tour but only occasionally did one or more of them played with him back in the states

  • Thanks

  • Pure bliss....

  • I need this talent.

  • Blows me away! everytime i watch him! the first four bars, the first time i heard this solo, i was like "wha?, seriously, were comming back to a resurge in jazz, help spread it all!

  • Is the rhythm section the Wynston Kelly Trio?

  • no - its not W. kelly on piano (or his trio for that matter) on this recording.

    cheers

  • guitarman thank for these videos, wes has a brilliant concept of harmony and timing but he is unique and a one off .even best like benson do a good job but....wes is pure natural soul and melodies... always smiling

  • you just don't hear Well-Composed music like this anymore! Wes was one of a kind. Indeed, much of what is play today is OVER KILL. In fact, even the very GREAT Joe Diorio said it's HORRIBLE to OVER play in solos. I'm trying to bring this back to the board. That is, well composed music and not over play. Wes was a Jazz hero and there's not a player of today, myself included, who is as good as he was. THANK YOU :-)

  • but the master Mr charles Henry Christian on swing to bop or topsy

  • he is playing all the best notes on the bridge

  • Charlie christian and wes are the most soulful

  • Dont forget Django Reinhardt.

  • man I LOVE this music. Wes was the BEST :-)

  • amazing tune :)

  • Brubeck definately heard this.

  • as did paul desmond :D

  • Wow, I'd never seen his technique (on video) before. I knew he plucked with his thumb, but had always assumed that meant using the nail with down AND UP strokes (even that seems impossible to me). I still can't quite believe what he actually does. As for the sublime music, I can't really comment adequately

  • This tune is WOW! Why so low hits :/

  • because not enough people appreciate the great genre that is jazz.

  • Great stuff...thanks for posting this

  • Great

  • lol Wes cracks me up....

  • Same man, when i watch him i just start smiling from ear to ear, its great.

  • this is it, the Music

    Awesome

  • so true

Glad to see you can count :|

  • Haha

Great that someone finally reposted this and other stuff that was removed some time ago!

  • Wes MONTGOMERY, bravo, and this trio is amazing, certainly, in the jazz's story, one of the best .... yeahyeahyoyo
