Heyyy men can you help me with my ahci problem I have the mo ga z68x-ud3h-b3 rev 1.3 my drives wont boot in the ahci mode need help as soon as posible thanks.
thanks, great video! weird that youtube makes it hard to find :D
I got a question though ... isn't there a way to make TM back-up bootloader files as well so when it's done restoring you won't need to reinstall them? and summing things up, all one needs is: backup of system to restore, separate OS X installation drive with bootloader installed on it and bootloader installer (on same drive, probably), right?
And I ask because even if I see the benefits of having a selectable time frame between backups, like I said I no longer worry about kernel panics or the like, I fix them the hardcore way and I can live with that. But since I never used a backup system before (and tho people recommend other Mac alternatives, I've heard TM is quite smooth and you showed why) I wonder if it can work in a sort of Clonezilla live way, and being able to hold a 1:1 copy all the time (since both HDs are same size).
@yourpsychedelic Time Machine should work fine for you. Another application that you could try would be Carbon Copy Cloner. Time Machine is nice because it creates new backups automatically every hour. It's a nice automatic process, while you have to manually make clones.
I have a 3 TB HD (and won't partition it; I no longer like partitioning, so let's leave that aside) with a Hackintosh instance. When HD prices normalize I'll get a 3 TB External. Could I use TM to mirror a 1-1 copy (I realize with your vid, by having partitions it would be easier to restore just the system files but I can live with that, I'm more concerned about hd failure, than messing with kexts), coz I don't want files with # versions ala SVN; just a mirror.
Hey on my Hackintosh i am having trouble with graphics, its not the usual 1024x768 graphics thing, I can't use a resolution higher than 1360x768 without it getting all nasty looking and my monitors default resolution is 1920x1080. can you help me??? I am using the UniBeast install method

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU . Bro you put an end to my madness, I had a kernel panic that prohibited me from loggin into my OS, i went to restore using my uni beast/lion thumb drive. didn't know i had to boot in using boot loader, YOU SAVED ME Headaches Thanks again man.
@cpukid00 Very true, I have always stuck with GPT and mounted EFI if I need to edit anything. I thought I'd put it out there tho as I noticed a few tutorials give the option of both but don't explain the issues out might cause later :/
@bhorozal I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, as that's basically part of the OS. You will have no problems fitting that folder on a SSD. It's things within that folder that you may want to move to a HDD, such as downloads, music, etc.

Hey cpukid, I love your tutorials on Hackintoshes since I've built quite a few of them myself. Time Machine is wonderful for what it does but other options are better. Options like SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner make exact copies of your Hard Drives sans the bootloader, since Time Machine only makes copies of certain files & settings in OS X. Using CCC one would only have to clone the drive & install the bootloader without having to have a copy of OS X already installed…
@pochoun33137 Those tools are nice, but you have to manually create the images. Time Machine is nice because it automatically backs things up without you having to do any work.
For clarification GPT is when the EFI data or bootloader+kexts that make osx think its on a mac install to a seperate hidden system partition linked with your osx drive. MBR just has all the bootloader stuff on the main osx partition so it gets backed up easily. These options are present when you format a drive. I hope this doesnt confuse anyone just if your trying to work out where your hackintosh boots from :P
@Ultriix The only bad part about using MBR is that once OS X is installed, you can't manage your partitions through OS X. You would have to completely format the drive to make any changes. I'd rather take the extra step of manually re-installing the bootloader.
Right I would have a problem if I used Time Machine restore, the laptop will not allow me to install Chimera as a stand alone boot loader, I have to install the easy setup when I first install OS Lion, and get the feeling that I would have to use it again, if I had to restore.
@ItsTrailBlazersTime have you looked on tonymacx86? and look at DSDT that will tell you what motherboards are supported, but I have also heard that most gigabyte boards will be fine.
@TekTut0rials I should say that with CCC it doesnt always backup the EFI partition if its formatted GPT, It should with MBR however. So its not a dead cert if the backup drive will be bootable, I started with CCC but then switched to TimeMachine cos of the above annoyances. I may be wrong about future versions of CCC tho :)
Nice video mate. My parents just let me build a nice custom PC around $1000-$1500. YESH! I already found CPU that I like (i7-2600K). There are too much Motherboards out there that I can hardly pick the best one. The Case, I have lowered down to two of the best cases I like, your case (CM 690 II) and CM HAF 922. Can you tell me which one you prefer (case) and the best motherboard around $150-$200 that Z68 LGA 1155? Keep up the good work mate. Still finding other parts like RAM, Graphic Cards...
@ItsTrailBlazersTime These are personal preference and totally up to you. I can't tell you which one is better because everyone has different tastes. You may have different wants and needs than I do.
Or you can use Carbon copy cloner... Throw in a external HD and Carbon copy cloner makes it bootable... And from there you could either swap the HD(s) or Some how transfer them... But This would probably be worth it in the long wrong...

Great video, one simple question, how do you get into that boot menu thing, i only know how to change the boot priority, thanks.
minituff 1 month ago
@minituff Similar to entering the BIOS, there's a key you press on startup. It's different for each motherboard. It should say when booting up.

time machine does back up NTFS because if you use bootcamp it still backs it up. Ive restored from it before. Good thing you excluded it.
