Never mind, I just saw that this is a bonus track on "Truly Fine Citizen" from '69. The ONLY one I don't have yet so I guess I don't have ALL of the Grape on CD like I stated.
This whole damn band could sing like nobody's business, and rock your socks off in the process. There's a fantastic double cd called "Vintage" that this is on, unfortunately now out of print, but well worth looking for...
This live version? It's on "Vintage?" Well then I'll have to get "Vintage" even though I already have everything by the Grape on CD! I was able to score both the self titled debut and "Wow" when Sundazed first re-issued them in late 2007. I couldn't believe that their manager Matthew Katz actually filed suit against the band regarding the re-issues! What a jerk off!
Just finised reading Neil Young's bio and the Grape and Buffalo Springfield became friends, especially Young and Peter Lewis, they both felt alienated from their groups and even thought of swapping bands, Young to the Grape and Lewis to the Springfield, both bands had the 3 guitar lineup. Terrible that both bands ended far too early, both casualties of bad management and represintation. These two bands had incredible raw talent and never reached their peek.
Saw the Grape in '67 and Spence was the star no doubt. Quite the attention getter he was. Fantastic sound. If they had been able to get it together, the sky was the limit. There is a chance that Wolfgang's Vault will eventually release DVDs of the Bill Graham shows and give us the Grape with good sound and actual film. But I stopped holding my breath about a year ago. Their audio material of the Grape is also really slim. It's like the Grape is a phantom from 1967-68.
One of the greatest groups ever out of Cali. They never got the recognition they deserved, but we can still enjoy their great songs. Thanks for posting this!
This is Changes, Omaha and Hey Grandma all in one. But less than any of them.
