  • You hair looks beautiful,If I'm trying to grow my hair out like yours, how offen should I trim it? Or does it just depend on when I start seeing alot of dead ends? =)(seems like I've been growing my hair out forever.) By the way thanks for the video, really helpful

  • @XXsadwonderlandXX Hi, that's what I do. I just wait until I think my ends need it and then I trim it. It usually ends up being about every three months or so. You decide how much you want to take off. That's the beauty of doing it yourself. Of course, depending on your lifestyle and how you style your hair, you may think you need to trim it more often. Just take a look at your ends when your hair is wet and if they start look lighter in color and thinner at the bottom, give a little trim.

  • thumbs up for being a guy, nope? really?.....ok :(

  • Thankyou! I was able to confidently trim my own hair for the first time and it looks and feels fantastic! I've also started using your other tips for long hair (how to wash, search and destroy, sleeping on it, etc) My hair is over 2 ft long and I have been struggling to figure out how to properly care for it. I'm really glad I found your channel.

  • @Spudzok Hi, I'm so glad to hear my video helped you learn how to trim your own hair! Thanks so much for your terrific feedback :o)

  • Thanks, this was very helpful.

  • Thank you!! I already trim & cut my son's hair & my husband's hair to save money, but I've always been nervous about doing my own. Your video is a great help!!

  • Hi! my hair is thick & long,i self cutted my hair last year & it was all cricket, my bangs were too long & since i wanted side bang, i accidentally cutted my bangs too thick & all the way to my sideburns. It doesn't look nice at all & i tried the barber shop & all they did was cut my hair a little bit & trim my bangs even though it is mess up.All i wanna know is,what should i do with my bangs & hair? My hair is long & have long layers. It's dead & i just want to cut it or trim it.what should i do?

  • @209santanya Hi, you should probably visit a hair salon rather than a barber shop and have a consultation with a stylist about suggestions for your hair. Layers are great for thick hair as they reduce the volume so ask your stylist what she/he thinks about that. Usually there is no charge for a consult, but ask first to be sure. If you like what you hear, then you can have them cut it.

  • Hehehe my moms a dog groomer so i use her sissors after she cleans them

  • @makeuplovetv sounds legit.

  • hey , what is trim ?

  • @CureMoonlight1994 hi, a cut is a large amount being cut off and a trim is just the ends :)

  • @CureMoonlight1994 Hi, a trim is cutting off a small amount of the ends of your hair.

  • @sdoc2sq about 6 to 8 weeks in between cuts, and even when you do cut your hair after these intervals, only take off:

long hair- inch or half inch

    medium-half inch to quarter inch

    short- quarter inch or shorter

    hope this helped!

  • Thank you! I love this! I hate having to spend money and going to the salon just for a trim. Especially when they cut way more than I want. It's so much more convenient to do this at home. :)

  • Due to medical issues, it can sometimes be difficult, as well as embarrassing for me to go to a salon. I really appreciate this vid.

  • hi can you use regular scissors

  • @supercookiemonst1000 you really don't want to. They're duller and its nearly impossible to get sections of hair even because you have to keep chopping to cut through your hair.

  • Hi, I would not recommend using regular scissors. You really do need to use scissor designed for cutting hair. They don't have to be terribly expensive, but the blade is different than scissors used to cut paper.

  • what if the back is about a half inch shorter than the frount?

  • Hi, I'm assuming you were not going for that look, because some people do like it. You just need to trim the front to be even with the back if you desire your hair to be all one length all the way around.

  • Phew this helped me out so much.. Btw you remind me of an older lady gaga :)

  • I love this lady.

  • Your glasses are adorable on u!

  • I just found your videos and love them they are so helpful!! Thanks so much for posting..

  • Terri Schuester.

  • @1121dance Use bobby pins and stick them into the braid, no one will see them :)

  • Hi, you can try using smaller pieces; that will help to hold the shorter hair in.

  • @1121dance hair gel

  • Thanks! You probably just saved me a fortune! I'm a student and a single mother, so I really appreciate these tips!

  • She looks like Claire Danes

  • Actually, you CAN cut your hair when it's dry. I'm a hair stylist, I would know. Why do you think at the end of a cut, we go thru to detail and point cut into everything to make it blend better. I cut hair dry all the time. Makes absolutely no difference when it comes to split ends.

  • hey i have VERY thick wavy hair, shoul i get bangs?i dont want to look lke dora or anything, and how should i trim the ends, because it is very damaged and all the hairs are different lengths

  • Hi, I too have wavy hair although it's not really thick and I have had bangs for a good part of my life. They do tend to curl up if I don't blow dry them, especially at the beach, but I just go with it. Don't cut yours too heavy. Keep them lighter. As for your ends, do give them a trim across to even out your hair and remove the dead ends.

  • i love this video

  • hey, what are 'bangs'??? i've heard people say bangs in american programmes before but i dont know what it is, thanks

  • Hi, they can also be referred to as fringe. It's basically hair that's cut to fall above the eyebrows.

  • @HollieHannahxxx Bangs are the short (or long) peices of hair in yur face...aka fringe

  • yes, thank you teacher

  • Sweeeeet. I have deeeeead ends.. PERIODDD!!!

  • can you do it when your hair is dry??

  • Hi, only if you have very straight hair or very curly hair. Otherwise wet is best.

  • @YouTips4U alright thank you =)

  • @YouTips4U no cuz u will get split ends

  • @nat83210 no u cant cut ur hair when it is dry cuz when u do it gives u lots of split ends so its best to cut ur hair while its damped or wet

  • @zowo300 : i DID not know that!! thanks for telling me.. so that's why I have split ends...ZT_T thanks

  • @gianneism no prob

  • What a great presentation! I have very long hair and trim it occasionally myself because I can't afford to go to the salon. I've been wanting to take more off, and this video has given me the confidence to do it. Thanks!

  • i converted....to hair cube......smh

  • I 'dust' my own hair every now and then. When I go to the hair stylist they always take way too much off. I also believe that split ends have been overly vilified. Hair stylist lie and say that split ends cause your hair to break off. Split ends just makes your ends look less neat and less even. If you trim a 'split end, all you do is reveal another end and as it grow it will not be even. I'm trying to grow my hair out and stopped getting monthly trims and my hair still grows fine.

  • I have a problem. I have split-ends and I'm trying so hard to get rid of them. They normally start from the end of my hair. And there are some split-ends on my layers of the end of my hair. And, I don't know what to do about it.. please reply back asap. Thanks.

  • Hi, the best way to deal with split ends is to trim them off. Then be sure to condition your hair after every shampoo to help prevent them.

  • @TheUjay I think you should get the "splitender"...it is an amazing product I have been using that gets rid of split ends on your hair strands and ends. Look it up on google :)

  • you have such a pleasant voice! very graceful!

  • Thank you. That's very kind of you :o)

  • I was trying to put my tongue on it why I thought she seemed so mother, thank you it was driving me crazy lol!

  • you are soooo pretty.

    you have aged well.

    i wish i coulda met u wen u were 16

i probably would have fallen in love ahahahah

    <3

  • an easy way to cut is to tie a hair elastic around the ends and cut after you determine what length you would like. This works for me.

  • all these hair cutting videos are very helpful.

  • Thank you! I'm so glad you find them helpful :o)

  • Your hair is sooooooooooo pretty!

  • Thank you! I appreciate your very kind compliment :o)

  • great tutorial, thanks for posting! your hair is very beautiful. I watched some of your other videos to get a good look at it dry, and the cut and color are very professional looking. I wish I was that good at coloring my own hair, haha.

  • you remind me of a therapist ;3.

  • @sophiepowell18 LOL i was thinking thee exact same thing !

  • great tips :) thanks for sharing!

  • Okay the most scarying thing about this comment is that i`m a boy and this video totaly helped me xD

  • It's a great vid it will make people think and it saves alot of money

  • Do you have aby tips for growing out hair?

by the way nice video, i think im going to cut my own hair for now on. the hairdressers always screw up on me.

  • Hi, be careful with heat styling and pulling your hair back into a ponytail because you want to minimize any damage so you don't have to trim it too often. Condition it after every shampoo and when you have time, please take a look at my split ends video for tips on how you can trim your split ends to stretch the time between trims so you can gain length.

  • This helped me so much! I'm growing my hair long and I really wanted to be in control of how my hair was cut. I always seemed to come away from salons with too much length taken off. Now I feel comfortable doing it myself.

  • You have such a soft and gentle voice :] thanks for the tips!

  • When I cut my hair..I have tons of layers so what I do is I section it, forehead above the ear and then blend it all. It turns out pretty good:)

  • also do you have tips for growing out layers

  • Hi, I had layers a while back myself. The best thing to do is to just let your hair grow and don't trim the layers, only trim along the bottom straight across. Eventually all your layers will grow down and you can trim all your hair at the bottom.

  • i have thick curly hair which i straighten (not daily and usually just my ends) and i dyed it in july and it damaged it alot and now its really weak and damages so easy, when i brush it it also tangles soon after, i have had it cut but it isnt long before its damaged again, do you have any advice how i can repair it??? im trying to grow it out

  • Hi, I recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment each week with olive oil. Please see my video on this. I think you will find it very helpful in repairing your damaged dry hair. You may have to trim it every 4-6 weeks until you remove all the damaged areas as well, but deep conditioning it will really help a lot toward growing it and making it healthier.

  • Only need a....... Flowbee!

  • Oh geez, My Hair is so much longer.. Its all the way to my butt. And I can not get it cut because my grandparents dont want me to cut it at all. Which makes me very very upset.

  • you have BEAUTIFUL hair!!!! :)

  • you hair AMAZING! SO COOL!

  • Hi! I'm kind of curious, but, what kind of shampoo do you use?

  • Please check out my video entitled How to Blow Dry and Flat Iron Your hair to Prevent damage. I mention the shampoos and conditioners that I use and go over great techniques to protect your hair from too much heat styling.

  • thanks

  • What hair products do you use? Your hair is so long, I have been trying to let mine grow out but when the ends split I cut it and it never grows long! I am so tired. Please if you could give me some advice that would be great.

  • Hi, please take a look at my Blow Dry and Straighten your Hair Video. In that video, I talk about what products I use.

  • hey i have a long hair and im a guy i want to trim it. its not that i don't have money to go to a barbers but im just to lazey XD can you give me some tips how to cut mine.?

my last style was thin layered after 3 months i can style it with wax. but now its too long to style.

  • Hi, you'll want to trim your layers just a bit which can be done by picking up sections of your hair and trimming them. This may be difficult for you depending on how experienced you are at hair cutting yourself. If you have any doubts, I would suggest you go to a hairdresser because layers can be tough, especially in the back of your hair. If you don't want to keep layers and are looking to grow it all one length, then you can trim the bottom using the technique I show in the video.

  • how did you grow your hair that long? Mine is half a foot below my shoulders

  • Do you have any tips for trimming boys hair?

I have naturally curly bangs and sideburns and the rest wavy.

I do straighten my hair and that makes my hair split.. Do you have any techniques to trim my hair or protect it from the straightener?

  • Hi, I do have a two-part video up that shows step by step how to trim a boy or man's hair, but it is done by having someone do it for you, like your mom or girlfriend. I don't currently have a video on how a boy can trim their own hair. If you have a cut with a lot of layers, you probably have to have someone else cut it for you. For your bangs and sideburns, you can trim those yourself in between haircuts to keep your hair looking neat and clean.

  • There is a portion of my step by step haircut video which deals with the forehead area and sideburns area. Fast forward to that and take a look. Hopefully it will help you.

  • can hear you, just music, no matter what I do!

  • Best video I've found on cutting your own hair! Thanks so much =)

  • Ok i know this is off topic, but you have amazing arms! Do you do lots of bicep curls? ^^

  • Hi, thanks so much for your kind compliment. I do lift weights regularly to stay in shape and toned. Bicep curls are just one part of my routine. When you have time, please check out my arm exercises video.

  • yeah mine sorta waves at the bottom but you can put a patrolium/oil mix on the ends and it will prevent that curl, youll have to wash it out later though.

  • omg luv ur hair

  • WoW your really nice you should be a teacher haha i love your hair to!

  • Excellent. Very, Very helpful. I liked the additional notes that you put it.

  • Wow , your so good :) I wish you can do my own hair >< TEE HEE

  • Heyy can you please tell me how long it took you to get your hair that long?

  • Hi, it took me about two years. When I started growing it my hair was about 2-3 past my shoulder blades.

  • @YouTips4U Okay.. well Thx :) im trying to grow my hair long:) And i have been a good little girl and not put heat on it and have been eating the right foods like fruit and meat and i take some tablets:)

  • My hair is longer than yours and the hair dressers always seem to cut so much off :(

Thanks for the vid. I shall now try and do it :)

    Love your tips btw (Y)

  • what size of scissors do i need to cut just split ends?

  • A standard pair or hair shears. Check out CVS or any drugstore.

  • my hair has SO much layers, but SO much spplit ends, so how can i make it easier for me to trim those dead ends?

  • wow this video was very helpful!

  • i love your hair ! :D

  • cutting the hair in the front create a thinner effect then if u actually went to a salon and they split the hair from the back of the ear and combed that forward out of the way, cut the bottom back them combed the hair over the sholder straight down which will give the hair a fanned out effect when it falls instead of falling in stringy peices

  • i wanted to ask you, my hair is kinda like yours it tends to curl ALOT xD

so instead of keeping it wet is it ok to straighten it & then cut it? :o

    thank u! ^^

  • Sure :o)

  • I love this post. I am so tired of going to the salon and having scissor crazy people get a hold of my hair. I believe this is the solution to my problem and you have totally inspired me. I have a question though. I like a little layering on the bottom of the hair and you mentioned in the video about maintaining layers in your hair by elevating your hair as you cut it. Would you cut the hair at the same elevation all the way around? (like cutting all the hair at a 45 degree angle)

  • Hi, it depends on how many layers you want. If you want one level of long layers all the way around your head, then you would grab sections of hair all around your head and raise them to the same level.

  • @YouTips4U just to let you know, there is no such thing as deciding how many layers you want. its deciding the length of the layers if you choose to have your top layer hit your cheeck bone your going to have shorter layers making look like you have more layers. a longer top layer will make for longer or "less layers" I'm a hair dresser. You do a rather good job for having no formal training as a hair dresser.

  • Okay so i just went and washed my hair and cut it..... only thing is, is like you said an angle...... but it looks good not to noticeable so it worked out...saved me a trip to the saloon! Thanks so much!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I am a thirteen year old teen girl with VERY long black straight hair and i was convinced by my friends that short hair was better than long hair, that is until i saw your videos. I used to think there was nothing to do with my hair but now i have so many hairstyes to try! I now know how to make a fishtail braid, french braid and much more. Again, thank you soooooo much for your classy videos ;)

  • Hi, thanks so much for your terrific post. Many people think long hair is so hard to take care of, but it's really not. It's so much easier than styling short hair all the time and there really is so much you can do with it that's creative and fun and pretty. Thanks again for sharing your opinion!

  • Wow thank you so much, this really helps me! I have really long hair too (it stops in the middle of my butt...) and i really need to trim it, but I hate letting other people handle it. Even my mom. So THANK YOU

  • @Jessie3443 Hi there, Jessie3443. I enjoyed this video as well. My hair is very long, but I get my Mom to trim it for me. I comb all my hair to the back. Then, with a good eye and using masking tape she simply tapes right across the back of my hair evenly, then cuts. It turns out good everytime. Then she may have to trim a few little wisps after the tape is removed. You could even check in another mirror to see if the tape looks even .Hmnn, I hope it's ok to post this on someone else's video.

  • u r beautifull

  • OMG!! I love your videos! They are amazing!! Yesterday I could not even do a Franch Braid to someone else! Now I can do it to someine else, myself, and I canf do the Fish Tail Braid!! Your videos are wonderful, have easy to follow instructions, anmd you speak nice and loud so I can hear you! Keep it up!!

  • my hair is really frizzy and some parts are curly and for me it works best when my hair is dry and straightened....just a suggestion for ppl with similar hair =)

  • thx alot but can i add highlights or it will be bad thx alot sending my love from eygpt cairo <3

  • Thank you so much for this! I'm going to try cutting my hair right away!

  • Thank you for this very helpful video!

  • this is great thanks for the tip :)

  • That was so helpfull! You explained things so clearly and well it was a breeze doing this myself! Thankyou for your very well spoken words of wisdom :)

  • This is empowering! My whole life I had been afraid to cut more than my own bangs. Until today!!!! Using what you taught me I like my own cut better than an expensive hair cut! Thank you!!!

  • Excellent! Thanks so much for your terrific feedback. I agree with you, it's freeing to be able to cut your own hair and love it :o)

  • You have class, not just the current "style" 20 years from now, ladies will view your videos, and they will say, "You have Class"! , Not the current style they are told to "sell". The haircut salesmen don't want the "customers" to see your video, not good for selling trendy haircuts. I showed a friend how to trim his wife's waist length hair. "You can always trim more, you cannot put it back", I was your parrot. But she loved it. A long haired woman, helping other women. You are a gem!

  • Hi, thanks so much for your kind words and great feedback. You sound like a very helpful and caring person. You're friend is lucky to have you :o) It does take a person a while to discover what looks best on them with their features and hair texture, and how much time they want to put into styling. Not everyone can wear the same popular cut and look good. After all, looking your best is the objective and that sometimes needs to be a variation of what's current.

  • Great video, there are a lot of ways to trim your own hair. I told my new friend to look at a few. Whether it is full or thin, long or just below the shoulders, are all considerations to consider before deciding the best course of action. She is opting for a basic blunt cut. But I told her I could blend her hair based on her length. She asked if it so simple, why don't the "stylists" tell her that in deciding how she should have her hair cut. I guess they do not know, they sell haircyts.

  • I met a new friend tonight, Lynn at the grocery store. Her hair was to just below her elbows, blunt cut and split to about the bottom two inches. After we talked, she asked me to show her how to trim her ends without getting chopped. She apologized for her majority of gray. all of her "friends" have told her it is time to cut it. I told her their were some great videos on you tube, and I would help her the 1st time. She must do the trimming, otherwise I would repeat it in 3 months with her.

  • hey thx a lot for ur nice advice =) im going to do it next time, instead of wasting a lot of time at the saloon only for cutting 1 cm!!!!

  • You're very welcome!

  • You're very beautiful. This is a great tutorial! Thanks :)

  • I'm a man who has long hair (bottom of ribs) - I've had far too many women behind me with scissors who made me nervous and sometimes angry when they cut my hair instead of trimming it. In my experience, women have hated my long hair even though I have on occasion been complimented. Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated. BTW - you are a gorgeous woman - great hair and a fine body, a pretty face - really a beauty that is all your own.

  • Thanks for the post! I'm really desperately trying to grow out my hair and it is taking a long time! I have very fine blonde hair thats about 3 inches past my shoulders. I've watched a lot of your videos and now braid my hair before bed and wash it like you suggested :) How often do you suggest doing a trim or "dusting." I haven't trimmed it since December and I think its probably due. I always cringe to cut any of it though!

  • Hi, I'm so glad my videos have helped you take better care of your hair. You should go for a trim when you think your hair heeds it. If you went last in December, but it still looks healthy on the ends with very few split ends, you can stretch it, otherwise four months is a fine amount of time in between and you can go again for a trim. Be sure to discuss with your stylist that you are committed to growing your hair long and that you would only like her to take of a dusting to clean the ends.

  • How long did it take you to grow your hair out that long?! It looks gorgeous! Some people can't pull it off, but it looks absolutely beautiful on you!!

    And great video...thanks for posting!

  • Hi, thanks so much for your very kind compliment on my hair. It took me about two years to grow it from 2-3 inches past my shoulder to the length it is now..

  • You're welcome!!

I hope that I can grow mine to that length eventually! :D

  • Thanks for posting this.I was going to cut my hair a lot shorter than it is now and I was just going to cut off the whole thing at once in large sections, but this helped.

PS, this was posted on my b-day. : )

  • Thanks for posting this is helpful, my husband has been cutting my own hair for years and my hair is very long also. I want to learn this! I don't trust salons.

  • oops!! sorry I posted before the video was finished. thanks again!! lol

  • Do you have any tips for cutting bangs with all one length hair. I would like long bangs about jaw length, but I'm not sure about the hair path and keeping it even. thanks

  • i love how ur tryin to help people learn to cut their own hair i'm a hairdresser just a tip for people trying to attempt this! wetting your hair when your hair is curly is a no! your hair will be longer when its wet and when it becomes dry it curls up making it a lot shorter so if u have curly hair its best to dry cut

  • Hi, thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your tip to help others. I really appreciate it :o)

  • Thanks for showing this, I'm gonna try it!

  • at sallys they have combs with inch markings on them!!!very inexpensive too

  • thanks for this...you really helped me a lot with this video because every time I go to the salon they always take too much off

  • you look like niomies sister in 90210 :)):$!

  • you seem super nice.. like always happy and nothing upsets you :)

i wish i knew you lol..

also ur vids are super helpful :)

everyone in the world seems to have short hair, and i can never find vids to help me with mine which is almost down to my butt!!!

  • My hair is just a little bit longer :)

  • im a student hairdresser and my siccors were cheep 20 pound were i work they have the same siccors btw want your hair

  • how do u make ur hair grow so long???

  • Hi, I am very careful to prevent damage by avoiding too much heat styling, tangling during washing and sleeping and I try to maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise. I have many videos up on my hair care regimen; please take a look at them when you have time. I think you will find them helpful :o)

  • Great video.

  • Thanks, so helpful!

  • this video is really good cuz i have really long hair like you :)

  • keep in mind if it cerls You want to make sure You are not encouraging it to by just cliping the ends at a slight angle. ..i used to cut my hair alot my self and i found that my tips are very hard to keep from cerling

  • wow that was really good, thanks

  • I've seen numberous how-to posts, and this is one of the best. THank you.

  • what does it mean when i wash my hair and alot of little strands fall out.? alot fall out evry time i wash my hair.. and when i try not to wash my hair everyday it looks oily the next day. what shall i do.??

  • Hi, it is normal to lose some hair every day, this is especially true when you wash you hair because you are loosening some already dead strands and helping them to fall off. At any given time there are always hairs on our heads that are in the fall phase. As long as you are not losing more that about 100 hairs a day and seeing bald spots, your hair fall is in the normal range.

  • okay thank you. your very helpful and i forgot to mention that i love your techniques.(:

  • @YouTips4U ..::what if it get oily by the second day after you took a shower...well how many times a week should u take a shower to prevent very oily hair!?!

  • usually the human body has a 7 year cycle . so.. after every 7 years, u might see extra hair fall out or growth.

  • god how do you grow your hair so long !

iget my hair cut every 6 weeks +wen iget a length ihave it trimmed n it goes back to the length ihad before. but idnt wna leave my hair without bein cut cuz my hair is really bad ihave to wash it every morning which means ihave to blow dry it n then istraighten it n my ends are terrible anyone helpp?

  • Hi, be sure you use a heat protectant before styling. That will help minimize the damage from styling. When you have time, please take a look at my video on how to blow dry and straighten your hair to minimize damage. Perhaps you can adopt a similar routine. In my most recent video I suggest air drying your hair periodically to give it a rest from styling. That would be a good idea for you if you want to grow your hair.
