I had this happen for real and it's a trap. And a mind game. The ONLY way for Cory to keep T was to tell Lauren that he didn't want to meet her and ask her to leave.. Any other action will lead to a breakup.The Topanga character has a lot of fear and insecurity and I can cite multiple instances of that like her dumping him back in 3 because he told her he loved her. Definite TRAP!! and he was stupid enough to fall for it.Given she did the same thing to Cory later on and he didn't even blink....

The thing that most people don't understand is that Topanga isn't playing mind games. What's going on here is that she was proving a point that could've gone either way. If Cory was really sure about how he felt about her, he wouldn't have needed to see Lauren. If he saw Lauren, it was because he wasn't sure. Why should Topanga have accepted him back knowing that he only realized he needed her when he had to see another girl to show himself? This is about making your own decisions.

They talk all night, and kiss the next day. Cory keeps this from Topanga. Topanga finds a letter addressed to Cory from Lauren, saying she wants him or whatever, and she mentions the kiss. Episodes later, she confronts him about this, and thinks he should test the waters with Lauren when she comes back in to town: hence this scene.
