Don't listen to the people saying this movie isn't good. Give it a chance and you might be surprised. I know I was. I am a huge film buff and this is MY FAVORITE MOVIE. The direction by Mike Mills (see trailer for Begginners, the film he did after this, another gem) is seamless and so damn beautiful. He encapsulates suburbia in such a non-cliche way. Lou's lead performance is so fucking subtle and brilliant, the kid is so smart. Great cast all around, unique soundtrack. GOOD STORY. please watch

I liked it a lot. Like most cases, the book had some more detail. The movie skipped the story about his father taking him fishing and also skipped the boy trying out religion (Mormonism of all things). The movie also cut out a lot of the language, but I love both the book and the movie so I can't say I love one more then the other. My only complaint if any is that the boy in the movie was WAY clean in comparison to the book character which barely bathed, used deodorant, or washed his hair.
