The leafs simply dont have the skill to make it. The players are doing quite well but when guys like Mitchell, Stajan, Grabovski, Hagman, Stempniak are thrust into the first line and do not produce can we really blame them? These guys are second line guys at best when being compared to contending lineups. Ron Wilson has injected the work ethic but it means nothing when you dont have the talent. Kessel is a good start but its gonna take some time. (ps: Jsaon Blake is USELESS)

I was at the game. They really mailed this one in. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Wallin was in the penalty box for the last goal, but what was he called for? I know the call was interference, but if you look at the play, the Flame ran into him! Unfortunately, there's no one you can trade on this team, because their stock has dropped like a stone. I would say demote Hagman for at least 5 games. Other than that I don't have a clue. Colton Orr was the only one who looked like he cared out there.

@ExxonPirate: How would Blake on waivers fix anything? Yeah, he's being paid exorbitantly for his production, but he's one of very few Leafs who are actually scoring this year. I mean you could put Finger on waivers for the same reason, but, again, that doesn't address the cause.

Placing Blake on waivers now allows him to be sent between the AHL and NHL. Also after being placed on waivers and sent to the AHL his 4.0M salary isn't against the salary cap. So we lose 4M that's a plus, Blakes not wasting space that's a plus.

Actually scoring? He has 2 goals in 18 games. He was brought here to score, Kessel has 4 in just 7. He's tied for 8th in goals, while Ian White has 3 and Kaberle is tied with Blake. Yeah he's worth the 4M alright...

Those two goals have come in the last 5 games. And if we look at his assists, he's got 9, making for 11 points in 18 games. That's not half bad. Definitely better than most current Leafs.

I always thought Gunnarson was solid. Even from Pre-season. Kessel is on a tear, and Wallin is a scrub. I think his position should be bench warmer. Or they could trade him for a bag of pucks and some pylons. I think thoughs would be better defensively then him. And what about Christian Hanson? Isn't he leading the Marlies in points? Maybe try calling him up, or Tlusty and put him on a line with Kessel. 'Cause I don't think Jason Blake's failed wrap arround attempts count as a pass to Kessel.

There are numerous players that need their heads beat in for terrible play. A good question to ask is what are the leafs doing in their practices...

they should practice shootouts. practice 4 on 4 overtime. they suck at that. and honestly basic fundamentals.

passing for example. or hitting. the leafs give the opposition so much room to move and make plays. Get in the corners and play some oldtime hockey. like eddie shore and gordie howe. Hit to hurt leafs. this isnt peewee hockey

I think the Leafs need to give Stempniak more time on the ice. He's playing great. Fastest guy on the team every shift. Mike Komisarek's injury is a blessing in disguise, if Gunnarsson, White and Schenn can play well enough that #8 has to actually earn his spot back.

I dunno though. I'd start Toskala in the next game, against Ottawa. Remembering, of course, that Gustavsson is playing for Tos's job, not the other way around. Wallin in the press box, and maybe bring up Bozak to shuffle the deck.

1. Gunnerson's debut? Fantastic! When a rookie steps into your lineup and plays 20+ minutes as solidly as he did, you need to be looking to replace someone who can't perform consistently like that and give this kid a shot.

I get this question all the time :) I normally write down the key points on a sticky note, or in a small reminder on my phone. Normally 25-75 words of notes. Really it comes down to remembering topics, and then expanding on that, so not that many notes are required.

See...everyone blamed Komisarek...now he's injured....and haven't won since...Leafs have not had any problems on offense at all. They had 40 shots last night to Calgary's 22. 5 goals on 22 shots is rare and can't really blame the defense for that either. Iginla's two goals were like right in the corner and off the post. Nothing much can be done about that. That being said...the leafs still need to find a way to start winning games.
