Wow, I play organ and due to it's lack of popularity I find myself looking through videos with maybe 2,500 views tops, and that's for someone like Klaus Wunderlich (who?) or Jesse Crawford...okay shut up (LOL). Anyway, I have a record of Hector playing the Ohio Theater organ ( Robert Morton pipe organ- original install BTW). Looked for more of Hector's music. Found an obscure record post- playing an Hammond X66.
Hector Olivera epitomizes what Charles Ives was reaching for when he said, "The future of music may not lie entirely with music itself, but rather in the way it encourages and extends, rather than limits, the aspirations and ideals of the people, in the way it makes itself a part with the finer things that humanity does and dreams of. We are fortunate in that has allowed us to observe just how high the human spirit can soar
This guy is absolutely amazing. He played the dedication concert on the new organ installed at my church. The new organ was part of a 3 million dollar restoration project. As it turns out, Hector was the one who designed the organ that my church has. He said in the dvd of the concert that he has the same organ that we have in my church.
If you're looking for perfection, get a computer to play the notes. Or get a computer editor to change what you consider to be errors. What I see here is energy, joy, excitement. I also see someone who plays many genres of music, and gets the public to appreciate the KING of instruments. That is more important to quality music than perfection.
@rmaccrea Seems he entertains the audience, gives them what they want. No one is perfect, but if everyone is entertained then good.
Ive been to plenty of concerts where its just abit about the music, played lifelessly (and usually snobby peices that most people wont have heard, except die hard organists/musicians..who are usually the ones that complain)...it gets very boring.

tahts not so good!!!!!!!!!! my father plays better!!!!
he is going to load a video on yout ube on wich he plays deux equisses (i dont know how to spell) from marcel dupre, one of the difficultest pieces for organ!!!
This man is phenomenal! I met him a few times in person, he always is kind, polite and helpful... His music is incredible, inspiring and touching... and he is very funny, too!
Crown Him With Many Crowns, or Diademata are the 2th song. I need the name of the sound, which is behind the intro pictures of organs. The first 30 Sec. But thank you for this =)
My dad (a big organ fan, and player himself) sent me this link the other day... i'm 21, and mostly into rock music, but i've been raised going to church and hearing organ music. i didn't really want to watch it, but i figured i'd humor my dad.. what was the harm, right? i planned on skipping most of it, but ended up watching all 8 minutes and 17 seconds... i was blown away! he truly is the greatest. Bravo.. Bravo.
For the Dupre "Fugue in G Minor" my mother said that when she was learning it in France (as a pupil of Dupre) she would say "Marcel Dupre, Marcel Dupre...That man could play, That man could play" and so on. Funny Olivera says "To heck you say"
It's awsome to see and hear Hector Olivera. I saw him played newest 5-manual Rodgers organ recently. He is the fantastic improviser. Thank you for posting.

Now I look at THIS video w/ all these views!
What's the organ REALLY mean to you?

No.
In serious pieces, lots of wrong notes, missing notes.
All flash and show and no quality.
But wonderful arrangements of other pieces.
Fun, nice man.

Classical organist who plays from memory the compositions of Bach and other such composers.
You can fool the public but not musicians who know these works.
Always hopeful he will play Bach correctly and well. Always disappointed.
But he is fun and does wonderful arrangements.

Who said anything about perfection?
How about more of the notes correct?
Not what *I* consider errors. What ARE errors.
The energy, joy and excitement is cheap if you don't make the effort to clean up and correct the mistakes.
