If it turns black and doesn't trigger the cutscene, something's wrong with your disc. That happened to me in Up Your Arsenal. I just returned the disc asnd got a new one.
They move around. At the end of the first game the settle in Veldin. At the end of the second game, they live in an apartment in Endako. In tools of Destruction, they live in Metropolis.
