Bv141 the Germans had the jagdpanther which was a very good AT vehicle and god I just loved that video the tiger is such a awesome thing I have and airfix one (332/322) and I love it. Tigers for the win!
Great tank that it was........still would not show it's self if it saw a Sherman Firefly in the Normandy countryside.........it would role out bold as brass if it only saw ordinary Shermans.................they did not like the 17 pounder up them.....ask Trooper Joe Ekins.....the cobbler from Northampton.......................'Canadian Firefly trap'..my Arse. .....sorry Elswick......could not resist.
@cammander263 The allies captured tigers in Tunisia, winter of 42/43.to have sent our young men in shermans against them at Normandy ,a year later ,was a crime. The M26 was a real tank, was delayed to keep cranking out shermans.Brave men to fight Panthers and tigers with shermans
@bv141a US tank doctrine called for tank destroyers to take on the heavy German tanks. US tank destroyers were very capable of killing the heavy German tanks. The US Army didn't think the Germans would mass produce the very complicated and expensive Tigers and Panthers. As the Soviets said, quantity has a quality all its own.
@jackzero99 The US had good AT guns, the towed 76 mm,and as you point out US motor gun carriges, tank destroyers, were up to the task. That didn't mean the poor Sherman crews weren't at a big disadvantage dealing with german armor.Brave men to face tigers and panthers, stugs, with a thin skinned Sherman
was there at the begining of july, awsome piece of kit, think its got the narrow transport tracks on it tho. The Panther and T34 sitting next to each other give a good comparison of build quality/finish. Definatly shows the different approach the Russians and Germans took to what they wanted.
@elswick1542 would that new bit be "the story of the tank" ?
I got a bit excited when confronted with one of the training vehicles on the road there, bit on the big side, took loads of photos as well but got dragged away by a very bored girlfriend/8 year old boy :-(
I take it that quite a large amount of the exhibets are in running order?
Tiger 2 tanks were pretty cool two, got a pic of me(Optimus Prime t-shirt an all) next to one and I look like a midget

@elswick1542 Perhaps the garden or perhaps a parking spot in front of the house?
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 Parking slot sounds good ,if not available simply drive over the car parked in the space!
elswick1542 1 year ago
@elswick1542 Indeed useful in downtown Nuremberg with it's limited parking possibilities.
