this DVD series is the best instructional series ever in English. I used it all the way through to Black Belt. if you are just starting out get this series or download it. its simply the best out there.
he put his arm around the back to early against an experienced judoka in randori it wud have failed but aprt from that he has done a good instruction vid
I feel bad for you judo guys. You got so many throw variations to learn and perfect. My hat is off you. In jujutsu (for self-defense) we really only work Koshinage as a form of o-goshi and other methods are just henka or oopsies, or pulled out of hat. You guys have to erfect each one as a separate throw.. GREAT STUFF.
I agree with Shade, about being to the side when throwing your opponent this way instead of center with them. Another good reason for doing this is you are out of your opponents center (or box) of strength; being in the middle, your opponent, if he is an experienced fighter, could get out of the throw using their muscle. If you stand to the side however, they will have to strength or leverage with which to throw off your technique and counter attack.
i also have trouble with this throw. for some reason i just cant get my hip out as far as i should. either im doing something wrong or it just feels awkward for me now and ill get used to it.
I am pretty new to judo, but this is the easiest throw for me, and what helps me is being to the side, not right in front of them. Try it and it may help.
I'm a white belt, just learning, and it's scary to see Swain's throws. The man's incredible.

same thing with me.

the problem is probably in the set up. you have to off balance the opponent before you make your entry.

youre probably doing uki goshi then
delshaydevera 3 years ago
i know this is like the fisrt throw you learn but i have a hell of a hard time doing it. harai goshi is alot easier in my opinion

gotta rise that arm and hug the armpit/shoulder area tight with the arm that goes around uke to help lift

Your O-Goshi is not good you have to place your hand on the back of the advesary you have to place it on the belt of your opponent :)

I actually have a lot of trouble using this in Randori, I think this video may help, I see a couple flaws in what I was doing.

This dude is good. I like his speed and how he breaks it down.

Very nice O-Goshi. That's the official technique of how to do it.

this was the first throw i learned in judo, haha. the off balancing and turning of the hips are kinda like the foundations of alot of throws
