He was in his best form in 2006, he was the best in that time no doubt, but now I think he is getting older and had failed to protect his reputation as the best goalkeeper to Casillas and Cech (who are now both on the peak of their careers). Buffon's glory days are over but he is still in the short list of best goalkeepers today or maybe even in history. The upcoming world cup will probably be Buffon's only chance to reclaim his tittle as the best GK in the world. I am a Buffon fan , honestly.
