i know this is ages onld but an idea for your base is put your diamond/valubals behind the fire place and put minecarts behind it. when you right click for the car you tele through the lava and dont take damage

if you plan on making more detailed showers, bath/hot tubs or toilets, aswell as sinks, you should try out the littleblocks mod. just dont connect littleblock redstone whit normal size redstone :3

Once on a server I made a base with absolutely no protection at all. I had 3 stacks of diamond blocks in a chest hidden behind a wall. If someone broke the wall they could have easily taken the diamond from an unprotected chest. One day someone found my base and griefed it and poured lava into it. After I cleaned out the lava, the chest was safely here it was before and had all the diamond still in it :D

Tyken, While it is true that if you die near a portal with a Ghast near you, It may sometimes come out of the portal, Ghasts are fire-proof, so the lava won't do anything to them. Instead, I suggest making the ceiling just one block lower so they take suffocation damage.

@mik3ypwnz181018 You make obsidion by pouring water on to lava, or lava on to water you have to try a few times to get obsidion though,

@mik3ypwnz181018 you need to put water onto a 'source block' of lava. more or less as it's called. it's a source, rather than run off from another location. you can tell the difference by using a bucket. you can also make yourself an obsidian forge, where you can make your own obsidian without the dangers linked to mining obsidian at the lava sources themselves. PM me and I'll show you an image and explain how to do it :)

sorry, but ghasts are immune to fire, your lava wall is only a decoration, I hope you eventually cover the portal with cobblestone, as cobblestone is immune to ghast's attacks
