  • Morrissey is pretty.

  • I'll give credit where credit is due. Ronson's version was one of the things that introduced me to The Smiths (the other was hearing How Soon Is Now? in the movie The Wedding Singer). Ronson's version was not only good itself, but it introduced me to what I think today is the greatest and most influential band in my life ever.

If I had to choose though, The Smiths version all the fucking way.

  • Look. To hell with Ronson..I'm 36 and I remember The Smiths first time around, without doubt the most important band of the 80's. Ronson's got lucky because he ripped a song off (a B-side by the way). They still play this version in indie clubs 21 years later...will people still remember Ronson in 21 years ??? I think not

  • Age doesn't mean anything to me, I don't go bragging about condescendingly cause people nowadays have horrible tastes in music and I listen to The Smiths. As long as they let me live my life, they can have their shitty "music" to themselves. I'm not saying I like or dislike Ronson's music because after all who am I to judge, but I do know that I prefer The Smiths 100% over Mark Ronson anyday, and if anyone ever doubts my love for The Smiths you best believe what is coming right back at them.

  • (ti amo)

  • i'll blast on all you cats... lol... you guys are funny arguing about who is better =P

  • Blah blah blah Mark Ronson, give it a rest, the guy put the song back in the spotlight and did a good job on it. Over 1 million views says it all!

  • you for real??? mark ronson putting the song back in the spotlight???? that clown just takes other peoples songs and is that lazy gets someone else to sing it. what is the point of him. no one put the smiths back in the spotlight. the smiths kick started a lot of young people into music back in the day

  • both versions are amazing.

but mark ronson is not a clown, and he doesnt just take other peoples songs, and he isnt that lazy that he has to get other people to sing it..he isnt a singer, so why would he, himself sing the songs..he is an amazing producer with alot of talent. cant you just get over the fact people like different versions and get on with life.

  • I know! He just like Santana and Timbaland. He just does different versions.

  • fukin epic

  • No,it's Oscar Wilde.

  • i absolutely love this song. and I'm only 21...I love 80's music...todays music doesnt hav shit on it.

  • In the poster on the fence they keep flashing, is that Murray Head?

  • Why has this only got 60,000 views. This song is fucking amazing.

  • i agree this is one of my faves mark ronson's version is utter shite

  • Because silly people are listening to Mark Ronson's version, not knowing better!

  • you cant say this, i like mark ronsons version better, you made it modern and not silly.. music tastes are different.

  • i meant he made it modern sorry

  • awesome song, makes me think of the 80's

  • Simple fact is this is a smiths song not a shitty mark ronson song. Goood song

  • i dnt agree with anyone that says that mark ronson does nothing and gets paid for it - thats rubbish. there would also be a lot of work to be done for him to create such a different version of a song such as this one.

  • I love how everyone gets very brave behind their computer screens....I never knew this version exsisted until i read someone else's comment on mark ronson's page...I am glad for the helpful comments but not for all the bullshit people say to eachother on the computer, that you know they wouldn't say in person...just a thought....thanks to the guy who suggested the smiths.....

  • stop talkin bout mark ronson 4 f**k sake. I only like this coz itz morose 80z alt pop rock even tho im a metalhead lol

  • this video represent the real english spirit

  • original is shitty compared to Vision cover.. IMHO!

  • you fuckin what!!! I cant believe I've just read your shit comment!

  • well, that's just my opinion, say i wrote. so, stop insulting me and learn to behave.. different opinion is not a crime nor a moral fault

  • well, thats just my opinion! hahaha! I'm only joking, its what you would expect a die hard morrissey/ smiths fan to say though, no offence, sorry

  • neither can i. Mark Ronson ruins every song he comes across- can't he even write his own songs?! xD

  • too right mate!! everybody's doing it! its pissing me off! hey do you wanna start a band and we'll just do covers!! haha!!

  • yeah and then get mega famous for doing nothing lol xD

  • Love the picture of Oscar Wilde in the beginning.

    Brilliant.

  • Have you ever think that if the beatles were born today their music would be mostly shit? Today's "likes" are not the same as yesterdays sucess and fame... stop writing futile comments about who's got the greatest dick... and learn to appreciate good music no matter who made it... By the way ronson version is assumed to be a cover by the artist..it's not like Led Zeppelin that credit many musics as their own while their were not...

  • Also ronson's version is made today, not with the limitations of the music industry of the smiths time. I'm a sound engineer and i found both versions masterpieces of their own time... They both accurately express the cultural status of their time.. and better still is quite easy to admire the changes because good music will never stop but only "catch up" with the present time. Guys!! the Smiths were great in their own time, so is mark ronson.

  • Mark ronson's version is horrible. This is the best. W Moz and The Smiths

  • this version is pretty decent, but i prefer mark ronsons cos it has more punch in the bassline and the singin is genious. Dont get me wrong, this is still a great version.

  • Mark Ronson is just thief as I see You cannot beat an original version

  • stop the ronson talk. that cover is just crap. focus on what matters, which is the smiths.

  • yeah!

  • who cares about the video when the music great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree what a song; pisses all over the cover version wooooooooooooha

  • great song. video not so much

  • the videos the same as there is a light but its riding aroung manny so i fuuuuuuuucking love it.hulme and salford.non mancs wouldnt understand

  • And why would they want to.

  • ha just read my comment back, its 'heaven knows i'm miserable now' - i think i have just disqualified myself from talking about Morrissey lol

  • i'm sorry, but you've been voted off of the talking-about-morrissey island lol

  • This is such a great song!

  • how DARE mark ronson cover a smiths song. hes just asking for trouble when he covers a song written by a genius like morrissey! the mans a poet. whether people think ronsons version is better or not, i think its just sooo wrong. especially the name of the song as well, poor morrissey must feel like hes been raped by some fucking mod. im 17 and the smiths and the stone roses as well are better than anything my generation can ever produce unfortunately :( to conclude, this version is my favourite!

  • morrissey and marr both gave ronsons version the thumbs up - i think if anything Ronson has brought the Smiths to the attention of a younger generation which can't be a bad thing, this version of course is far superior to the remix - morrissey actually knows what he was singing about not just singing a cover - i consider him one of the greatest all time lyricists: there is a light that never goes out, suedehead, god knows i'm miserable now, everyday is like sunday etc etc etc

  • marr's solo at the end is enough on its own to make a joke out of ronsons cover.

  • viva manchester

  • I guess this has already been noted but this is the video from 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish' not 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' amazing song anyway though

  • "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" was still released as a single in other countries, but its promotional video - which featured Morrissey plus a large number of Morrissey lookalikes - was used in the UK to promote "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish".

  • a classic song

  • Sounds so much like early REM, The smiths have influenced so many people

  • oh my god, why cant we have music like this nowadays?

For some reason this song just makes me feel so happy and somewhat sad at the same time

  • This version is the best. I heard ronson's cover first but this is miles better. Also in this one I can see the humour and the complexity of the lyrics. I can't in Ronson's

  • und auf deutsch: ich find das orginal von den smiths irgendwie total lieblos und müde also ich weiss auch nich. Mark Roson hat aus diesem Lied was echt tolles gemacht!!!!

  • Mark Ronson was punching above his weight tampering with this song... Morrissey is timeless.

  • Morrissey will be discovered by new fans forever.

Its like emo without a freakin fashion statement.

  • the mark ronson version is horrible, i wanted to puke when i heard it

  • mark who ??? morrissey forever

  • An absolute classic. Mark Ronson absolutely butchered this. It's a real shame you can't buy this on iTunes.

  • Butchered? Mark Ronson did one hell of a cover thank you very much. The original is a classic of course, though.

  • i love how Morrissey hold his laugh.i read a thing or two in it.

  • I wasn't aware there were so many covers to this song. IMO nothing beats the orignal... classic!!!!!

  • I like how different this one and the one Mark Ronson re-made are. I love them both. And the hair and glasses in this are great. Hahah

  • classic, love it!

  • he moved to rome!

  • Great song

  • Yep you are quite right....sorry I meant the Hungerford Massacre

  • This song was banned from the radio in England because of the reference to 'mass murder'...............it was released at the same time as the Dunblane massacre.

  • This song came out in 1987 and the Dunblane massacre took place in 1996.

  • Yeah, Morrissey, there ARE other people in the band you know...

  • La mejor cancion de todas!!

  • The best song ever! For some reason, I realized all my favoryte bands their name star with a "T" like ,The cure,The church,The Smiths,Tears for fears, etc.

  • Working-class legend! If I see Timmy Jonze, tarting around Hoxton, like some middle-class ponce, i'll be sure to give him a smack for you Moz!

  • Salford lads club still up and running 'til this day.

Morrisey is a true Manc legend. Sadly left us for tax reasons to 'live' in the meat eating, obese central capital of ignorance and stupidity that is the glourious US of A. No wonder he lives the life of a recluse over there.

  • MHolt9904, I don't know about the stupidity label for us Americans, but I fully agree with your statement of our ignorance. The Smiths (and Echo & the Bunnymen) were pretty much ignored here, while the likes of Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses, etc. made millions with their recorded garbage.

  • i'm not sure if they were joking but yes this is an original Smiths song!

just to clarify - marc ronson did a cover of this. :)

  • did that guy think mark ronson was the original person to write this song, and thats why he is stupid?

im confused, please tell me this is an original smiths song??

  • Mark Ronson's version hört sich nicht an wie eingeschlafene Füsse :D ..im Gegensatz hierzu.

Ronson bringt viel mehr Gefühl und Spannung hinein als the smiths!

  • what a stupid son of a bitch XDDDDD

  • LOL guys, i was obviously kidding

  • you are such a muthafucker

  • eri terrible pollo oe

  • lol idiot

  • great version is only the original

  • My college days. I love it. Thanks for the memories.

  • i respect them because they wrote the original but I AM SORRY Daniel's vocals basically OVERSHADOW this version. Extremely soulful and not only that one feels the emotion behind the song in Mark Ronson's version and its SICK how he inserts the Supremes. FANTASTIC!

  • Bleh.

To be honest, I like both versions. They both have good and bad sides.

Ronson's version is more, uh, modern, but The Smiths version is still the only "right" version.

  • No room for both bands a line has been drawn and REAL SMITH/MORRISSEY FANS need to tell Ronson fans to play in a busy street!VIVA MOPEPOPE!!!!

  • If you lot like the Ronson cover, comment on that, please, don't bitch about the original.

I love both versions, but this is better - Stunning guitar by Johnny Marr there. Also, Mozza is clearly better looking than Mark Ronson, loves.

  • Humm... interesting version. I wonder what Morrissey thinks about the Mark Ronson/Daniel Merriweather version, a compliment or a condecending rub?

  • morrissey absolutely detests mark ronson. he said so at his residency at the palladium.

  • Real Smith fans should boycott Ronson fans

  • i just don't understand why you are comment on this video if you like ronson verson, you should support hin on his vieo

    :S

  • original kicks the covers ass

  • The original here is very fitting for the time period. It's cool, but I do prefer the Mark Ronson/Daniel Merriweather version better. The beat is crazy and Daniels voice is so sexy and soulful.

  • the best music-video-clip ever!

  • both versions are sick. the ronson version is a little more soulful. i can appreciate both of them

  • Please tell me that you meant the Morrisey version is a little more soulful... Please

  • the mark ronson version's pretty sick too

  • This original version is so so so so so so so so SO much better than that other tripe version! Smiths are the bollocks ;)

  • Ronson should also jump in front of a bus.Viva MOZZA!!!!

  • Um... I think njrep08 should do the world a favor and jump in front of a bus. Mark Ronson's cover is a decent song, yeah, but really now. Please grasp yourself firmly on the shoulders and yank your head out of your ass.

  • this song sucks, the cover is beyond better

  • totally agree!

  • ohhh he is sooooo hot

  • I love how shy Morrissey looks in this video. Great song!

  • Mark Ronson - Stop me ;)

  • Well then he should be stoped cause this is the original, hun.

  • totally agree!!! much better video and rhythm... and in all fairness style

  • fucking legends

  • Have loved them since 1983. When will they get back together? We can only hope.

  • Brilliant.

  • Please erase the video - I've heard this one before.

  • I fell in love with this song when I heard it for the first time...

  • the song is beautiful, id like to think that the video is a nod to the film The Wild One,

  • This song is fantastic....Morrissey is truly gifted

  • he's asexual. some people are. even the most talented of genia.

  • Hah, I have to disagree! He has sex!

  • THE SMITHS >>>>>>>>>>>>> THE BEST!!!

  • this falls under "cool girlfriend" music for us hardcore/metal whatever guys......I always knew some shit was up when my lady would be playin THE SMITHS all day long......know whdda 'mean????? But I still love this shit......

  • P.S. GREAT CHORD VOICINGS BY J.MARR....double tracks aside.....

  • I'm a female and I adore Morrissey. He's simply beautiful. Always was. He was male model pretty back in the 80's and he's still incredibly handsome. I don't care if he's gay straight or bi, he's a genius artist and his music and lyrics touch people and in fact there are 'the songs that saved your life'. So, who cares? He's incredibly private about his sex life. He claims to be asexual but almost all of his songs, including this one, hint at being homosexual.

  • Great song,cheers...............:)

  • real quality original indie and he is a genius

  • but fortunately you are not ! :D

  • yeah..i see you as another anti family queer..

that brian bloke has a point...

  • what is so tragic here is that MORRISSEY could have had any girl he wanted...but he sucked dick and took it up the ass...why?

If I was in his position I would have found the perfect womman and settled down....

    sad

  • Morrissey GIVES it up the ass. He's never on the bottom.

    Trust me on this one.

  • I see you had personal experience with him?

    That must hurt

  • Hung like a horse, man.

  • Who the hell cares..................

  • are u saying that morrisey was gay or is gay.

  • He is a Fag Icon....

  • i don't know, but i prefer mark ronson's version.

  • cool song mark ronson remix is really good aswell

  • The Smiths - The Best, Im glad that my father show me this ;)

  • what's the matter with you Dowling??

suedehead is not a song by the smiths

ringleader of the tormentors is not an album by the smiths

    but MORRISSEY's ! ! ! !

and even worse.... you said Ronson did it in 1987 ! ! ???

    what the fuck ?!

  • yep i told he's stupid

no wonder i hadn't heard of them

  • GOD DAMN, THATS SO KICK'S ASS.

  • this band is great..they really defined british pop, the post-new-wave that led the other guitar driven bands into the nineties.

  • i don't think there is a better about it. they're different that's all. i love The Smiths, they're one my favorite groups, but i equally i like Mark Ronson's version because it's different.

  • crap

  • WHAT damn you

  • lmao

  • do u reli not like this

  • This is one of the best songs ever ....... no more comments

  • love this song so much that i have to listen to it 10 times every morning when i wake up, even lerned how to play it on the guitar! morrissey is god, ave

  • bow down to the gods. simply perfect. thank you johnny marr and morrisey.

  • xD this makes more interesting the "Comments & Responses" seccion !

    but.... Mark what ? ?

  • THE MARK RONSON VERSION IS SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!!! at least on the new version the guy can actually sing.

  • Lol yeah I really get a picture of your intelect with the way you overstretch that "so". I love it when people say things like "its better because its better". This is comparable to "at least on the new version the guy can actually sing" because its just a claim with no backing or decent arguement. This is of course because the guy dousn't know why he likes the other guy better, because of course when you feed somebody shit long enough they are bound to start enjoying it.

  • mate its a just a damn song! i dont kno why ppl get such big dicks up their arses for a damn song!! its not gonna change the damn world so shut ur mouth. fool!

  • Its a song? Ohh ok lol thanks for that. The songs not going to change the world? Well thats relevent. Ohh and I don't type with my teeth.

  • oh ur so smart.

  • Ur not.

  • ur a fool captain pie pants. go on get on with ur life. this all started when u decided to write a bloody long comment thinkin u can outsmart me because u cant find anyone else to annoy.

  • LOL! I called you stupid but if thats what u think outsmarting somebody is then ok. Ohh and yes I go around finding people to annoy, assumption is the best method to destroy your own credibility. Ohh and if you do respond to this then you will be hypocritical, so just warning you.

  • Ohh Im sorry, for your brain my previous comment was indeed an analogy. Or did you already ask you mummy about it?

  • causing problems her aswell piepants god u need a life

  • Jesus christ theres some idiots on here.Smiths first, Mark Ronson later. Its pretty obvious.

  • One of my favourite`s smiths song ever!So pure and fresh melody! In my opinion Strangeways... are one of the best album ever! I won`t share you!

  • I'm guessing it was a joke. Even if you don't know the Smiths there's an obvious difference between a video from the 80s and a video now.

Love this song but the cover's alright.

  • This is how music is supposed to sound like! yes.. amazing.

  • original by mark ronson are u retarded

  • Nice cover, but i prefer the original by Mark Ronson

  • sacowea!

  • You do realize this a song by The Smiths. Mark Ronson was the one who did the cover, albeit a crap one.

  • But Mark Ronson did it first!

  • aweonao.... are you stupid???? (dowling1981)

  • No. He did not. He did a cover of this song. The song itself is an ORIGINAL by The Smiths, NOT Mark Ronson.

  • oh my god you are an idiot!

  • You are not very polite, oranjeboomer. Have you seen this?
