All those arguing about Senna's helmet - here's the deal. The piece of upright suspension that pierced his helmet hit him like a bullet, just above the visor. That's the part that caused the most internal trauma. Senna would've needed a helmet made of kevlar, or some other bullet-proof material - a helmet such as Massa's would not have saved him. A helmet made of kevlar however, would rip your head off of your neck going around a bend at 5G. Unavoidable.

@saatana4 if somebody looses a suspension at a speed of around 230 kph then it wont come to rest instantly. That what's happened here. Barrichello lost the suspension one turn before and the suspension was bouncing on the track and Massa got hit by it.

There was no way he was gonna avoid it whether he saw it or not - he would have been around 150mph down that straight so tyre traction alone would have prevented him from being able to weave around it in a split second and could hardly have been expecting it. It was just a desperately unlucky fluke... both he, and the part that came off Rubens car, were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
