There are different ways to approach situations like this, and that wasn't the right one.

There is no LAW which prevents you taking a photograph of a Police Officer, firearms officer or otherwise. Any attempt made by an Officer under OATH to misrepresent a Law and state otherwise is committing FRAUD.
Did this Officer identify himself properly? He is OBLIGED to identify himself to you.

I'm all ways watching shows like police interceptors and the likes and when a crimnal demands the camara be taken away the police say they have the right to film what thay want. What difference it makes, is weapons in marked or unmarked car? If U want to steal them, U can break windows on both of the cars. If the policemen is in public place, U can take pictures. If unmarked police car is in publik place, U can take pictures of it. But if policeman orders U to delete the pictures, and explanes why, U have to erase them. Thats the law.

should be a procedure then where the licence plate of the fire-arm unit changes daily (or more), but is registered and sceduled with the police, and if it gets reported..etc, or they need to use the licence plate to trace it, all they have to do is tell the police the licence plate, and they can still look up what vehicle it was? Most likely this "firearms car" was being used to target speeders or people with dark visors, loud exhausts and other minor stuff. MCN and others generally take pics of this abuse of power to show their readers what to expect - much like the speed camera in the horse box.
Maybe if the firearms car was used to prevent CRIME instead of annoying people who are hurting no one this wouldn't have happened.

My sympathies to the cameraman, and sterling job for not agreeing to understand the cop's unfounded allegation that he would be put at risk. Probably more at risk just by being a pompous tw@t in a uniform. Exactly the same happened to us for pointing our camera at the sky to record a glorious sunset right outside our gate. That is his job, as a cop.
They are on the highway, not in Buckingham palace, not in a military instalation, not undercover. They are in broad daylight, on public property, and the cops have a load of guns.
They have no expressed or implied right to privacy.
In the end, he didn't take the camera because he knows that he doesn't have the right.

What difference it makes, is weapons in marked or unmarked car? If U want to steal them, U can break windows on both of the cars. If the policemen is in public place, U can take pictures. If unmarked police car is in publik place, U can take pictures of it. But if policeman orders U to delete the pictures, and explanes why, U have to erase them. Thats the law.

im on the cops side. its a registered firearms vehicle and by taking a photo tht contains the registration plate you are putting there safety at risk. if criminals know it contains firearms they could break in and try and steal them so over all you are putting everyones safety at risk because your photo could lead to criminals getting police standard firearms and using them against the public

should be a procedure then where the licence plate of the fire-arm unit changes daily (or more), but is registered and sceduled with the police, and if it gets reported..etc, or they need to use the licence plate to trace it, all they have to do is tell the police the licence plate, and they can still look up what vehicle it was? If its such a risk, then its a bad idea having the static plate, because a terroist could just follow the car and write it down. They dont have to take a picture.

I would like to add...If I was the officer in that situation where the guy just keeps winding him up, I would have arrested him under the terrorism laws regarding taking pics of cops. I'd have took him into custody and filed him, interviewed him ,and took his prints. Let CPS decide his fate and await a request from his editor for a response, which would be on the lines of, "arrested coz he's a knob", but with a pollitically correct slant on it.

For a bike journo to be taking pics of a plod car there's got to be a reason.
Most likely this "firearms car" was being used to target speeders or people with dark visors, loud exhausts and other minor stuff. MCN and others generally take pics of this abuse of power to show their readers what to expect - much like the speed camera in the horse box.
Maybe if the firearms car was used to prevent CRIME instead of annoying people who are hurting no one this wouldn't have happened.

Section 76 applies to images taken inside parlimentary buildings, commercial properties, or other targets of interest outside public view.
Taking a picture of a UNIFORMED COP on the side of the road does not put him at risk as he is already in clear view in the public.

OK, so the cop is trying to explain that he doesn't want to his vehicle to be recognized as a police vehicle? It is pretty clear it was important to him the picture not be taken. Why was it so important to you to take it? Just because he said not to? Just because you have a legal right to take some picture doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.
